    The C400 is a great camera, but not for my use case, as I only shoot for me, so my camera should be light and it doesn't have to look professional or to have a lot of connections. My wishlist is an R5C MKII with internal ND, with IBIS, and at least 15 steps DR, working at 8K-RAW-LT 60fps with the internal battery, having animal AF. All this for under 5'000.-$. Nice to have would be 8K-RAW-LT at 120fps, or cropped 6K-RAW-LT at 120fps and 4K at 240fps. I would also be happy with 6K-RAW-LT instead of 8K, but as the R5 MKII is 8K this won't change for an R5C MKII. In your case, I would also go with the C400. Thank you for sharing your reasons about why you will get the C400👍, I guess there will also come a 6K C70 MKII but in 35mm, maybe for 1000-2000.-$ cheaper than the C400, but the FF would also be my choice over 35mm.

    I own two C70 an R5C and the R3 for photos... I have a big love for that stop or two more in the hightlights from the DGO sensor.. damn I would have loved to see a Full frame DGO sensor done in the future...

    • @AlexanderJawfox
      @AlexanderJawfox Před 5 dny

      For sure. I was reading they went to the back illuminated sensor adding better low light and auto focus features but eliminating the DGO we have in the C70. Is the R3 back illuminated as well?

    • @baekmedier
      @baekmedier Před 5 dny

      I have heard that they went with the non DGO sensor because it was to demanding and would have given real bad rolling shutter because of the readout speed.. but like with everything else.. there is always a solution to those kind of things.. back in the days the PC graphics cards had 128 MB ram and the cameras and the 5d mark 2 was the best video camera you could get... only 24-105 you could get was F4 ;) things can be done... if they want it to happen. Test about the low light i have seen until now from CVP was that it actually didnt do that well in low light with the noise, but the colors was really good. I mean if you want good low light Sony cameras has always been the go to I think.

    • @AlexanderJawfox
      @AlexanderJawfox Před 5 dny

      @@baekmedieroh I hear ya. It can get better but the business and price point behind it all plays a factor. I dunno it’ll be interesting to see that triple base iso on a full frame sensor. My business partner uses fx6 and fx3. We never notice much of a better low light advantage with his cameras vs mine. The Sony a7iii however compared to other mirrorless. Had a clear win in dark settings.

    I am so annoyed that this camera has mini xlr ports and is a huge red flag for me. Also the fact that it has one sd card and one cf express slot, should be a dual combo port. Basically eliminates the option for dual slot recording.

    • @AlexanderJawfox
      @AlexanderJawfox Před 5 dny

      Yeah I woulda thought they would put full xlr on this camera. But I haven’t minded the mini xlr adapter I use on the c70. I’ve never used the dual record feature on my r5 or c70 so I’m not too upset about it.

    • @LiteShaper1
      @LiteShaper1 Před 3 dny

      I have never understood people complaining about mini xlrs. I have used both. Zero difference in quality of sound. Zero issues with robustness. Nothing a simple adapter can’t solve if you have full xlr peripherals. The only thing making me hesitate on this camera is the lack of a DGO sensor. Otherwise looks like a home run.

    Thanks for the video! I'm with the doubts camp, but of course all this stuff is very individual-preference based. Doubts because of maybe three things. Firstly, I like smaller cameras. Means smaller support gear, less strain on your back, easier time pretending to meet cabin luggage weight restrictions. Even the C70 I find too large, and for me it's awkward for handheld -- I'd rather hold an r5c. But horses for courses. I can see you like to rig your camera out some, whereas I'm trying my best to strip it down. Secondly, image quality up from a C70 doesn't look like that big a jump to me, despite the numbers on paper. No image I've yet seen out of the C400 has made me go, "Wow!", has got me excited. It's more like, "Yeah, cool. It looks fine and does the job." So, it doesn't emotionally seal the deal. I get more wow factor looking at clips from a 2010 HD-only Arri Alexa, or 2009 Red Epic, though those are for a completely different market and production environment, etc, etc. Thirdly, I get the feeling that a workhorse camera that is slightly more my style is around the corner. I don't think the C400 is a C70MkII. I think Canon will bring out the same sensor in 6-9 months, except in a smaller body with fewer inputs -- and THAT will be the C70MkII, or the C90, or whatever -- and it'll also be significantly cheaper. Canon did the same thing with bringing the C100 out after the C300, and the C70 after the C300MkIII. Anyone who doesn't jump on the more expensive camera's bandwagon or who was on the fence then says, "OMG! Half the price but same sensor?!!", and gets in on round 2.

    • @AlexanderJawfox
      @AlexanderJawfox Před 5 dny

      Thanks for the insight. Some interesting and useful points you make. With my work flow, as long as the camera body can mount on a gimbal I’m okay with it. Although most the time I’m on the sticks or hand held. I felt the c70 was awkward and preferred the fx6 body. I may be wrong but I feel as if there will not be a C70II. The c400 competes with and may outperform Komodo x, fx9, fx6 while the c70 was along the fx3. I think they are trying to give us a good an and b cam situation. As we know there are the specs and what we as creators can make with it.

    I'm looking at buying at least 1 of these maybe the 50mm or 24mm, go with my Canon R5C. The autofocus is actually too good at times when paired with native RF Canon stills lens like the 50mm. The response is fast, able to lock on quickly in sports mode. But as you said, when you are on a bigger shoot with crew, there's no need to use it when the 1st AC is on set. And the Cine version is manual focus. You do know that these are rehoused lenses with the same glass from the EF mount version right? Same with the Sumire Primes PL mount. The only difference are the electronic contact 12 pins which RF handles better for communication, distortion correction. I hope the lens serves you well which I'm sure it will, and thanks for the video.

    Thanks for the Review. I have a canon R3, and im debating whether to go to a more video capable canon when I jump into Film. You are right about customers, that love seeing huge and expensive looking equipment, so I usually ask my customers do they prefer the look of my iPhone cinematic mode which looks really good when creating content for people. Also, I really want to know, what makes cameras, look more like cinema. I owned a Nikon d7000 which was like valued at $350 when I owned it, it took video that looked like professional commercials and people would wow the out comes.. Also, w photography, Ive taken images w Sony a7II that would look more amazing than the images taken on a $2000 more expensive Sony a7rIII so I guess my question to you is... Do you think I should go to B&H to try on the lens you reviewed on my canon r3, or get a more movie style camera like the canon you own?

    • @AlexanderJawfox
      @AlexanderJawfox Před 17 dny

      I’ve had similar experiences. I shot on my R5 for years before getting the c70 cinema camera. At first I was disappointed bc my R5 looked better. Same as when I got my first dslr. My iPhone took better photos. But once I started learning the camera and its features then I realized why I was paying the extra money. The C70 has better video features than the R5 in the practical sense. The r5 can shoot 8k raw but over heats making it unreliable, plus the codec and the files are massive. The C70 won’t over heat and has much more manageable files while delivering industry standard 4k DCi with higher mbp and 10bit color. I’d say your r3 would be ideal as is. I don’t know I’d recommend a cinema lens. I love mine for interviews and static shots, and I’m getting better at focus pulling on the go, but I shoulda got the 24-105 f2 for my workflow.

    I have had the same concerns with my rf glass. they are not designed to do heavy video work. However I have realized that turning off the Autofocus can help with longevity and not put so much work or strain on the camera. Though for interview work and even documentaries, the RF glass is great. now when one is doing high-movement videos or shots that have a lot going on then YES cinematic is very necessary for longevity and ease of work. But for CZcams, documentaries, and interviews RF glass is a huge bonus for amateur videographies.

      @noranoskyle4417 Před 24 dny

    • @noranoskyle4417
      @noranoskyle4417 Před 24 dny

      I also will say this the, fact that we haven't heard people coming out complaining about how their rf lens died from video work suggests that Canon did a great job with the build quality. Because many are using the RF glass for video...what a great time to get into videography! one day I will get me some cinema lenses.

      We film a lot of weddings so I was gonna get another 50mm lens anyway but wanted to test this one out. So far I love it. It forces me to shoot manual focus which has me a lot better at pulling focus now. But I will say sometimes I wonder if I shoulda got the 24-105 2.8 instead of this lens. That lens is same price and much more versatile for the type of work I film/photograph.

    Just a small critique: you should have shot the interior of you talking using a higher slightly higher T stop. Your lens is so wide open and the depth of field so shallow that most of the time your face is out of focus. A little higher T stop would have given you more more depth of field so that your face was always in focus, but still allowed for the nice bokeh and soft out-of-focus for your background. A little distracting when you're talking about the importance of focus and you're out of focus. Probably not noticeable on small screens, but I'm watching on a 50" monitor. Keep up the good work, though and good luck!

      Thanks for the feedback. I really like shooting wide open but know it’s not ideal all the time. I like trying to find that sweet spot with the distance as well.

    Wow! I’ve owned both, ditched the fx6 because I just couldn’t do both…the c70 really has better colors and found myself very disappointed with fx6 footage. 15 years in the game, and still prefer canon. Fx6 great for low light, but thats what my fx3 is for.

      Yeah I definitely prefer Canon, but Red has grown on me as well.

      @@AlexanderJawfox I love the 24! It’s so nice to have the same look with a different focal length. It’s super sharp and really good wide open too

    before you get too deep into the rf cine primes, maybe consider getting into PL (or EF) so that you aren't locked into canon/ red dsmc3. you're just paying too much to be system locked 🤷🏼‍♂

    • @AlexanderJawfox
      @AlexanderJawfox Před 2 měsíci

      Very true. I know PL is standard but all my glass is EF and RF and know I’m not switching outside of canon or red anytime soon.

      I got a few DZO PL mount Cine zooms that I use with a PL to RF adapter on the R5C. But manufacturers are releasing lenses in native RF such as Surui and Nisi.

    Great information! I feel like having a cinema lens on your camera is like having a mattebox 😂

      I’m sure I’ll be challenged when it comes to more dynamic shots. But for more static shots or with the follow focus it’s been great.
