Thanks for the advice! I was ok after this trip 👍
Planning to visit Shrewsbury soon, I like old buildings, and wish to photograph as many as I can, thanks so much for this video and all the others! Top Chap, your work is very much appreciated 👍 I got into Third Rate content thru your videos of Richard's Castle, visited the church, way before COVID, and the castle site looked overgrown, so didn't venture, now I know it's accessible, I'll try to visit. Keep up the great work, thanks for doing this 👍
Thank you! It’s great hearing you’re enjoying the vids, I have a great time making them also. Shrewsbury has loads of old buildings so I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself. 👍👍

Wearing a facemask and regular MRNA shots are excellent prophylactics against Lyme disease. However, to be on the safe side after walking in ferns you should isolate yourself, until you have three negative tests for the disease. Maybe even shut down all schools, hospitals, doctors surgeries and the economy.
Ahh I can know see the mistakes I made. I need to self isolate, see you in 10 days, I’ll close the schools and hospitals on my way home (to bed) lol 👍
Wow. Very Interesting.

Hi Louise, nice to hear from you! 👍
FRENCH GUARD: This is the castle of my master, Guy de Loimbard. ARTHUR: Go and tell your master that we have been charged by God with a sacred quest. If he will give us food and shelter for the night, he can join us in our quest for the Holy Grail. FRENCH GUARD: Well, I'll ask him, but I don't think he'll be very keen. Uh, he's already got one, you see.

Richard’s Castle would have been a timber Motte and Bailey, ignore the later stone walls. It was one of three pre-Conquest sites that may have been castles. Ley lines, Lie-lines
Loved this. Bought the book and subscribed 😊
Thank you, very kind!
Interesting that a Norman knight was invited into England before 1066. Norman knights were normally invited by Kings to keep order in bits of the land that were lawless, such as in border or rebellious regions. This happened in Italy and in Scotland. Over time these Norman families would grow in power to become very high up in the aristocracy. In Scotland’s case they went on to become royal dynasties I.e, the Bruce’s and the Stewarts. It might have been that the Normans would have continued to grow in power within England even without the 1066 conquest.
Something to think about 🧐
visited the goggin nt reserve next to rc last week great views
Yes it looks beautiful!
Ley lines aren’t straight, they are winding like a serpent
The Ley Lines Alfred Watkins talked about in his book, The Old Straight Track were straight lines drawn between three or more landmarks (thought to be pre historical in origin). There are energy vortexes and other things (I’m not an expert in this) that are not straight. The St Micheal Ley line (there are many more) is one of the most famous straight Ley Lines. 👍
@@thirdratecontent585 sorry, I wasn’t casting any aspersions, I’ve just finished reading the book “The Sun and the Serpent” by Paul Broadhurst and Hamish Miller. It’s about the St Michael and Mary line from Carn Lês Boel (near to Land’s End) to St Margaret’s Church, Hopton, Norfolk and their journey dowsing from one to the other (starting at Carn Lês Boel)
I hope a didn’t come across as sharpish? 😂👍I was just explaining the lay line theory as I understood it from reading AW book. I must say the title you mentioned does sound interesting.
Lived here since i was 3 and didn't know half this history. Good job mate
Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed
It was a Norman Knight’s holiday home.
It’s got everything! It’s even close to Birmingham airport! Wait a minute? 😂
A fascinating video. FitzScrob must have been an ally of Ralph of Mantes whose disastrous campaign against the Welsh earned him the nickname Ralph the Timid. Very good to see the actual places involved in these tales of the past, even better that some of it is still standing. Sheriff comes from Shire Reeve an Anglo-Saxon era title that still exists today, including in America.
Just been reading about Ralph the Timid (after seeing this). It sounds like Richard and Ralph could’ve well known each other. Thanks for the extra info, very interesting 👍
Very interesting and imformative. People like youself do a Great job in making sure this magnificent heritage does not vanish.
Thank you!
I would love to know what piece of music plays at the beginning
It’s English Pastoral Impressions by Ernest Farrar, I’ve linked it in the description box. Thanks for reminding me 👍
@@thirdratecontent585 Thanks for that. It's captures my connection with our rural landscape perfectly.
What a facinating story, I never knew about these pre- invasion Norman castles. Though we know the Norman connection was much earlier than 1066 as King Æthelread had married Emma of Normandy way back in 1002. Emma of course became Edward the Confessors mother. After Edward died in 1066 this lead to the Norman conquest. Also the Norman knight who built this castle Richard Fitz Scrob, was obviously the son of someone called Scrob as the prefix 'Fitz' signifies a 'son of'. Thanks for this video, i found it very interesting .
Thank you for the kind comment and the extra information! If true This would make William the b**stard the father of, Richard Fitz Schrob (the b**stard). It’s all very interesting!
@@thirdratecontent585 My pleasure, though I don't think William the bast*rd was the father of Richard Fitz Scrob ? Though as a matter of interest my ancestors actually fought at the battle of Hastings with William. Their surname at the time was Venables from Venables in Normandy. After the battle when William was handing out the rewards a younger son of Venable was given the estate at Brereton in Cheshire formerly the estate of the Englishman Wulfgeat. After which the younger Venables was known as de Brereton, though after sometime the 'de' was dropped.
The same as the Sheriffs they took to America !

Lovely video. Love Borth. Been going since 1971. If you walk up to the monument as you did then drop down the other side (Aberwennol) you can cut up past a farmyard and past a couple of caravan/camping sites sites back into upper Borth. If the tide was right you could walk along the bottom of the cliffs from Borth to Aberwennol. I dont know if this is still possible with cliff falls as it is a couple of years since I have done it. If you are planning on doing the cliff walk to Clarach try and time the tide so you can see the 'Causeway' near Wallog.
Thank you, appreciate the positive feedback! I’m in Borth soon, the info about the cliff walk is very useful, thanks 👍

Thought they were all Vikings by this stage.
@@ChrisShortyAllen The Normans were Vikings who had settled in northern France (Normandy) a couple of generations previously, they had also converted to Christianity. 👍
That bus station in Shrewbury should be consigned to history, it is a disgrace. Like something out of a Third World slum
Low cost, low effort nothing building. It’s basically the antithesis of, say a Victorian structure 🧐 lol 👍
Nice watch Dan great footage from the iPhone is it nice quality the way this world is right now I sometimes wish we had a time machine and go back to an age of peace lol best wishes Phil

I have moved 36 times all over the world and Richards Castle is the best place I have ever lived. Great people, pub and food, a totally crazy place and people.
It’s a lovely part of the world. The gravity fuelled race (soapbox derby) looks fun!
I whacked them making the film in 84.
That would’ve been interesting to see 👍
Thank you Dan I suspect this really adds to the evidence on Wild Edric and the Harrying of the North. It would seem to suggest that the Edric we believe to be the Wild Edric is whom we have come to see as Edric. Not sure if this is the Edric of Condover though?
Yes the Normans did wreak a lot of damage and destruction during these campaigns. English folklore was also irreparably damaged during this time sadly. This Edric fellow seems to pop up all over this part of the country (and our videos). Yes he may be different from the Condover Edric. The distant past is murky Thanks for the enjoyable comment 👍
Eadric Sylvaticus attacked Richards Castle at Candlemass 1067.
@user-sh8gm4dl4v Intresting.. It makes sense as around that time he was involved in the attack on Hereford (and later Shrewsbury). Thanks for the additional info! 👍
