Saturn SL2 header install. Will a racing header increase the horsepower and torque on our mostly stock 4 cylinder Saturn Sl2? The install is pretty straight forward. It's probably going to be easier for most people to have the work done at an exhaust shop vs DIY to be honest. Unless of course you or your buddy do welding.

You didn't install a cold-air intake, you bot. You REMOVED the cold-air intake that comes stock in your car, which pulls COLD AIR from the fender well (hence, being called "cold-air"), and replaced it with a HOT AIR intake, which pulls HOT AIR from your engine bay. And then tested it with the hood open, which is unrealistic perfect conditions, and it still sucked more balls than air :D

I just sold my '95 sw2 and I regret it. I bought it with a mighty loud exhaust leak from the flex pipe. The sw2 had the traction control button and performance button. I used to dis/engage both and floor it. The car sounded like a Nascar and would spin the tires mid shift. My gf even said it felt more like a sports car than a practical wagon. Saturn will be missed. I think they sound better than most jdm when u put a good exhaust on them (the early s-series that is).
Oh man! That's literally soo sad! Oof. Those sw2s are SWEET!! They really do deliver quite the fun driving experience! Sometime this month or next we'll be releasing our performance exhaust/muffler install. It sounds pretty good I gotta say! #ripsw2 you'll be missed 😔

I bought a 2000 chevy s10 with 2.2 and it had a cold air intake. It was messing up the shifting in the automatic transmission. On a slight downgrade it would downshift. The fancy air filter fell apart and that was the original reason putting the stock ductwork back in. That problem went away and I was pleased. I did not know that this would fix it.

🙂That time was found on the "good ol google." There were other times listed. But apparently that time was listed as the best stock 0-60 in 2002 out of the factory!👌

Yeah, I'd be curious too. Rating our gains would definitely have been way more accurate if we had done previous vehicle specific runs on our own. Definitely gonna need to put in that forethought with future builds! Thanks! We like it too!!👍
If you can find a throttle body off a geo storm it should fit right in but you have to flip the bracket over… when I did mine I had issues with it keeping the throttle open so you’d have to do some adjusting there. You could also make your own bracket to

You guys should get some Dyno numbers doing a twin intake cam mod.
Oh 100%! Definitely wanting to do that. All the forums are implying that there isn't tuning available for these older Saturns. We'll probably gonna have to end up getting a stand alone ECU!😄
@@_stancebrothers that is correct they are a ROM setup. However if you find an SC2 PCM the fueling is the same but they are limited to 130 mph rather than 101 with the computer you have in your car. I've got a 1992 Saturn sc within mp2 transmission and a MP3 fifth gear swap it definitely helped with the acceleration at lower speeds with the larger gear ratios. My brother also has a 1995 Saturn sc that is more or less mint and he built a 2 1/2 inch exhaust from the flex pipe and pass the muffler.

I have a mustang and it makes more noise with the cold air intake however doesnt feel as quick, maybe 2 or 3 hp and bearly noticeable. It’s a spectre filter with a airid tube

Ah yes! You're so right! A couple months ago when we began these modifications we had to raise the suspension in order to clear the threshold of the Dynamometer for these tests we're running! (That's shown in the original dyno video with the Saturn. Link reference in video) As the owner of the Saturn, I couldn't agree with you more! My fitment is sooo embarrassingly wack right now!🤢 Before, all my wheels were tucked with less than 3" underbody clearance. Gonna be slamming it back this weekend tho!😄👌 Lol

You will actually have far more (negative) -HP when driving around with the hood down due to the heat of the engine bay thus reducing air density. To dyno one short pull with the hood up really means nothing compared to real world driving, hood closed, air in through the grill, heat trapped within the engine bay, and that open air intake trying to suck in the far less dense air than the ambient air outside.
Yes, that's some of what we've been considering as well. Its our first time working with an aftermarket intake. We had noticed other configurations on other vehicles were isolated much better regarding heat shielding and distance from the engine itself. Not a ton of aftermarket supply options with this particular automobile. Might have to do some further fabrications with it ourselves down the road. Yes! That's for sure! The man at the dyno shop was explaining that because we don't have supporting modifications, like you mentioned, its hard to actually harness the benefits of the increased air. Definitely hoping to do a turbo some day tho!
Generally, the filter element is much smaller - not as robust - in the after-market cold air systems, so unless you spend more time / money on this maintenance you will shorten engine life especially if you drive more often on dusty roads. As you said at the end, mostly a cool factor not performance or beneficial to engine longevity.
Haha, yes. Thankfully we're in a pretty clear area so dust isn't a much of a problem for us. But that makes sense what you said. Definitely planning on continuing good maintenance for sure!

They estates never came with the 1.6 cvh turbo (RS turbo engine) but folks have done full conversions on 2 and 4 door estates and they are cool as fuck 😎. That would be awesome to get a shout out my man, that would make my 10 year old kid freak out lol (in a good way).
