    to me the better way to make a better "anything" is build a "base model" with everything basic that worked before in a specific scenario and test it in a very challenging way to improve his own caracteristics. To make it works even better you need to compare with your "opponents", see what they made to solve problems you already have. in this "enduro" or "motocross" scene, take whatever "generic" parts you can from the aftermarket and just build the basics around it to complete the bike, every single thing that don't make diference in performance, just use generic ones from aftermarket, like seats, fuel tank, plastics, rims, everything that works even if is a generic one, put a generic one. Then, after make this "generic" motorcycle, test it in small championships that allows "custom builds". If something who works "fine" breaks, replace it with a similar one. if something just don't handle well, engineering a new one, better and stronger. If nothing happens to the bike but the bike ends worst them everybody, analise the diference between your bike and the rest of the grid and compare sections to understand performance flaws. Make sure to listen your riders inputs. if everything works fine and your bike end up in a good position in grid, ask your riders for improvement in handling and performance, but never do exactly what they are saying, if they say "this need a lot more torque", add a little bit more and try again. work in a slow pace, a improvement at a time, in the end you will have a good and capable bike, experience in competition and bike building and expertise in handle generic buildings. Now you have a start point for a brand new model with "technology" and "innovation". after a while you'll notice common problems and knowing what others make to solve them repeat this step by step every time and you will have the next "perfect dirtbike". Or settle for what you have and be Honda.

    I just visited austria (last week) and was walking in a local KTM Dealer. They had a lot of vintage offroad bikes there. I just looked at them, while my gf was shopping some clothes. Every bike had a Name and a Race where it was driven and at one bike I was like "wait... you heard that name before in that one video." The bike was Meoni's 950 of 2002, where he won the Dakar. And I was kinda sad and stunned, just because I knew what that bike was and what it meant. So thanks for that video, without it I wouldn't even know who he was. If you wanna know where the bike is.     Such different approaches between the BMW engineers with the G450X & Triumph engineers with the TF250X. Hard to call it a great dirt bike if riders can't ride it like a dirt bike. Clutch modulation is so important. Sometimes reinventing the wheel doesn't pay off.

    Buy a 1988 Ténéré 600, slightly modify it and you get all the specs, asked for in the video: 23L fueltank, 255/225 mm of travel, 600cc engine and only roughly 180Kg ready to ride;)

    Keep up the great work! Got myself a 2021 FE450 as a first bike (second really, the first one fell victim to some asshole with a cordless angle grinder) and present to myself heading into my 50's. All my friends thought I was completely off my rocker and that impression just got worse when I sank almost as much again into it to kit it out as a long range rally bike. I've yet to do a single stage of actual rally, but as a consolation prize the Swedish TET is 2841km of mostly gravel road so I get my go-fast kicks there instead. For now.

    Do not agree that much. Swiss MX and Enduro scene is basically built on Yamahas. And i heard that jeremy Seewer guy is pretty decent. And Honda is one of the greatest forces in the Dakar right now. Yamaha redefined the Rally Touring segment with the T7. As i said, can only agree partially when it comes to enduro/hard enduro bikes.

    Great story telling with accurate info. I was a bit worried that Triumph were going to do the same. I rode the G450X and whilst the motor had a lovely linear nature, the weird no squat ride and 'zoch suspension made it pretty bad. They later updated to KYB on the 449 I think ? but it was still a terrible frame.

    From an engineering standpoint, Harley Davidsons are the epitome of shit. Hence why people modify the absolute crap out of them. Also, have they ever heard of a thing called exhaust muffling? Noisy fucking shit heaps, kept alive by their human equivalents.

    Real riders don't need ABS, it's built in to their bodies! Fuel injection is only really needed on shitty four strokes as they misfire at the worst times, because they're crap in mx bikes. They're fine for hearding cattle, trail, and desert rallies (big bores). Kick starters are no problem with two stokes up to 250cc, and again, a good rider rarely stalls. The bikes didn't improve much as they reached perfection in the mid to late '90s, they just had to keep adding more idiot devices to attract more average Joes, and keep up with competitors who do they same. The world, in a lot of cases, is set up for layman, average, dumbasses, unfortunately.

    On a dirt bike you break levers all too often, so give me the cheapest ones. Obviously, this video is aimed more at noobs or people who aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. Any competent person would check for any brake drag before riding, and make necessary adjustments. A motorbike alone can be deadly by it's very nature to the aforementioned so and sos. But they get the Darwin award!😂

    Absolutely terrible video from someone who didnt know the diference between paint vs anodizing. Lets test the lever with weights if it brakes, or cut it if there is some problematic material porosity. This is so lame, wasted time.

    Grew up watching and the dreaming about the 950 and Meoni but could only get a 990 by the time I could afford one. I still thrash that 08 today and hope to run it until its wheels fall off. There is nothing like that LC8 doing 100mph on a gravel track...even if it is only a 990. Thanks for the memories and all the new info (for me)

    look at the fxr that the dyna replaced. eric buell was part of the fxr development. maybe thats why it has a dual hime joint 3rd mount up top along with the other 2 lower rubber mounts. the fxr started the rubber mount idea
