Mostly cycling related videos, predominantly gravel riding with some road riding. We have some plans for a couple of bike packing trips this year, a trip to the Alps to tackle a few of the climbs and to take in the Alpe D'Huez leg of Le Tour. There will also be some touring of Europe and some surfing in France.

Sorry I couldn’t make it. This would’ve been my local ride, I actually passed you in my car heading out to work passing you as you went past the distillery. I hope you had a fantastic day guys. Maybe catch you next time.
We had a great day thanks @bobbyspity.
Have done that loop in reverse, that climb up what was your descent was brutal!
I can only imagine. We’ve never done it that way.
@@specializeddoug I don't recommend it, mind you, you said there was a nice line down the middle, sound like the loose stuff might have settled a bit then!
It was much better compacted than when we did it previously, at that point there were large loose stones which would’ve been horrible to climb.
How long?
How long is the ride? 28 miles.
I'll be there if it's not lashing down!
Nice one BDR, the forecast looks okayish at the moment. 🤞🏻
Can u ise a hardtail in the group rides ?
Absolutely, we’re not precious about it being gravel bikes only.
Superb !
Thanks GMcS. Pleased that you enjoyed it.
ride from Lochrin Basin to Falkirk Wheel and back might be the best day out ever :) I was wondering - is there a way to extend it all the way to Atlantic shore?
I’m not really sure to be honest. I’m sure there would be ways to link across.
It’s the Abbotshaugh Sentinel and was created by artist Jephson Robb. I’d loved to have got to this one just to see Mr Walinck again😂 familiar with parts of the route but looked some interesting bits I don’t know.
Thanks for that info SDRA3636. You could download the GPX file of the route and follow it. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
@@specializeddoug I think I shall do so. I’ve plotted a few that go further north from the Kelpies but this looks nice for a wee change.
That's one of my local routes! I live in Balquhidder.
That’s a great route BDR, we’ve maybe done it 3 or 4 times now.
That was me that said ‘Specialized Doug’ at 2 mins 31 secs 😅
Nice one Scott. Hope you enjoyed your day as much as we did.
Looks great Gilly!
Cheers Ali, we had a great wee day, hope you are well.
Unfortunately I’m heading south on Friday would have joined you on this one
No worries big chap. Hopefully we’ll get a good summer and plenty of opportunities to get some dusty miles in. 🤞🏻
Another great video. Does look good starting in comrie 👍
Cheers M. It worked out pretty well. Could be a little less road involved if we could find a parking spot in or around Comrie too.
@specializeddoug there's a carpark on the Crieff side of Comrie at the edge of the village. Usually plenty of space and I'm sure it's free.
200 videos Dougie! That's some milestone. Well done you 👍. Good to see some familiar faces and that your gravel family is still growing with some new recruits.
Thanks Craig. I thoroughly enjoyed that wee pedal. I just have sleepless nights when I see OG’s listing their gravel bikes for sale. 😜 Hope to see you soon buddy.
Is it the Insta360 X2 that your having issues with? Great video and ride 👌
Thanks t1982, no it’s the Insta360 X3. It just refused to switch on and was overheating so I’ve sent it back to them.
Great video, I stayed in Callander for a few days last week and did the out and back past Glen Ogle viaduct to where it meets the road. A great ride and I had sunshine all day. Must have just missed the beavers as I saw the water swirling as I approached. A great area to ride in, just a pity I'm 230 miles away.
Thanks Ken. Callander is a good base for gravel riding. We love heading up there as it’s such a pretty place, even prettier when the sun shines. If you’re ever up when we’ve got a ride planned come and join us.
Looking forward to doing this ride
Nice to meet you today big chap, on reflection I think you enjoyed it.
@@specializeddoug I most certainly did,a fantastic route with an absolutely great bunch of guys thank you
Great videos mate
Thanks Chris. You should come out for a ride with us and star in the next one.
That's a cracking mixed ride, done it three times from Balquhidder on the Roubaix with 26mm Vittoria Corsa road tyres. Going anticlockwise there's a hell of a climb out of Callander. There's about 6 miles of gravel and the couple of miles at the Glen Artney end has been refinished so is easier to climb if going clockwise. Good coffee and cakes at The Broch Cafe in Strathyre. Can't join you sadly, unless Sunday arrangements fall through. Have fun!
Cheers BDR7865 👍
Part 1 👍 looking forward to part 2
Thanks Shugster, pleased that you enjoyed it.
Any chance of a gpx for this? It looks epic 😊
You may be able to pick a gpx up from Strava. If not I’m going to see about putting my rides on to Komoot.
Sounds like big john had a better holiday 😂😂😂
I think his mornings were as painful as mine, but I prefer the work hard play hard ethic. 😀 I refuse to miss the following day’s play because of the previous evening’s session.
Those are the best views of Arivurichardich I think I have ever seen. The landscape there is just stunning. How can something so close to the tourist honeypots of Callander and Comrie be so little known?
That is an almost mystical looking place in certain weather conditions. We’ve done that route a few times and really enjoyed it. Pleased that you enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed watching this video, not long moved to the Dumfries and Galloway area and it's something I've been wanting to do for a while now, got the bike, just need to get a tent and going for a week appeals to me, couple of pints here and there and a good book for the night in the tent, seeing you guys all having a laugh ( which is what it's all about) has just made me more determined to do it, there's nothing stopping me so I'm definitely going to go for it, thanks for the video and the reassurance, all the best guys 🏴🚴👍
Thanks Stephen, it’s great fun and being a dark skies location just adds to the possibilities. Really pleased that you enjoyed it. Good luck.
Great video Doug. Glad to see you got over to Courch this year. Even if visibility was poor, there’s some great runs over that side!
Cheers CD. There’s space in the chalet for next year if you fancy it.
The middle section looks like wild, wild, country.
Glen Artney is pretty rugged and feels very remote. We’ve been through it in overcast weather and it’s very atmospheric and dramatic looking.
Another epic video @specializeddoug and another brilliant winter holiday, can't wait for 2025 ⛷️🏂😃
Cheers buddy. On reflection I really enjoyed the week and we were fairly lucky with the snow conditions. Absolutely loved the catered chalet and the whole chilled nature that it brought to the party. The ski in ski out hot tub and sauna equipped chalet next year will be next level.
Thanks for a great week! Looking forward to having you guys again next season.
Thanks Alex, you guys were all fantastic. Unfortunately I didn’t get to ski with either you or David, but we can fix that next year. Thanks again for everything.
@@specializeddoug I featured a few times don't worry!
I know that now, but didn’t recognise any of your skiing gear as I hadn’t been out with you.
Really glad I came across this as I recently planned this route on Kamoot for a trip up in May. Only difference I will bike riding up to Glen Ogle viaduct first as I've wanted to see it for years. Don't suppose you know if the path along the other side of Loch Earn is finished yet? I'm going to subscribe, but I wont get to visit the area often as I live About 250 miles south unfortunately.
Hi Ken. I’m not sure about that path but I’ll try to find out for you. Is this a path on the North side of loch Earn you are talking about?
@@specializeddoug yes that's the one. It's supposed to be getting upgraded as its in a poor state in places. Was wondering if the work is complete.
I might come on the MTB for this. Bring the new drone 😎
Ooh, a new drone?? What did you get?
@@specializeddoug mini 4 pro
Great stuff. Cheers. Stoozer. 🤠
Hope you enjoy the day BSA.
See you there 😊
I probably won’t be there Kirsteen. We just get back from a week’s snowboarding in France the day before.
I was up there two weeks ago in much nicer weather. I kept looking out for you but I think you were in Aberfoyle instead.
You’ll just have to join us Hugh on one of our group rides. 😀
@@specializeddoug one day I hope to.
Nice one guys 👍 Good to see 360 cam back in action. Great quality image on that. 😎
Cheers Chris. Hope to see you soon buddy.
Hell yes.
Good man. 😀
its part of the water pipetrack from loch katrine to glasgow built over 100 years ago.
Cheers WW. Hope you’re still getting the miles in.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_Corporation_Water_Works
Hi Doug loved the video .Is the structure you where unsure of not the water pipe from Loch Katrine to Balmore which supplies Glasgows water? Maybe right maybe wrong lol😁
Hi Daniel, pleased that you enjoyed it. I think you may be right, thanks for that.
Thanks Doug. Great route and video. I need to drive up from Dollar and try this one.
Thanks@@briancooper2808. It’s a cracking wee route, with a fair bit of work in it for 19 miles. Some really pretty views too.
Thanks for this great video, loved the drone footage. You mentioned how to get the GPX file for this route which I’d catch. I’m planning a trip to Scotland this year and would be thankful if you could let me know. I’m riding my eMTB these days so may not be so swift as you guys. Happy trails.
@@michaelfinn1317 do you use Strava? If you do you can follow me on Strava @DouglasGilliganRACC. You can then click on my Strava rides and download the GPX files from them. Hope that helps.
Nice video. Ride was great. I ventured over the other side after and headed for the viewpoint but hadn’t realised how steep it was. Ended up being mostly hike-a-bike on the way up. Came back via the out of action bridge and tried to ride across the burn, ended up with some very wet feet! The structure by the way, I’m pretty sure, is part of the pipeline carrying water from Loch Katrine to the city.
Brilliant Andé. That hike a bike couldn’t have been much fun or the river wading. I don’t like the sound of the super steep stuff on a fixie either. You are a glutton for punishment. Hopefully that bridge will be replaced soon. Good shout on the water pipeline, that would make sense. Hope to see you again soon big chap.
@@specializeddoughow on Earth did I manage to comment on the wrong video?! Aye, getting feet soaked wasn’t much fun but at least it was right at the end. The bottom of the burn is just a bit chunky to carry enough speed into to make it all the way through. Cheers, catch you soon.
😂😂Sounds like you had a good go at it though. Well in big man.
Cheers Doug, great day out!
Good to see you again buddy.
Nice wee vid Young man
Thanks Daniel son. Will we be seeing your fat ass (your words not mine) back out with us soon?
Morning Doug, Have travelled up from Suffolk for a few days camping at Gatmore, would be great to join you guys if possible
You’re more than welcome Andrew. Hope the weather’s kind to you and we’ll see you on Sunday.
Have found out that one of the bridges has been condemned on the originally planned route Andrew so I’ve changed the route to one which is only 19 miles long although it does have 1,800 feet of climbing. This is the video of the last time we did the replacement route. czcams.com/video/Qp5Ddoycu5g/video.htmlsi=hTxDcIksNUEjLSwb
Great day and good to see you again Doug👍
Cheers Kevin, pleased that you enjoyed it. It is a great route.
Aiming to join you on Sunday, Dougie. Will be great to see you again!
Nice one Johnston, I thought it was something I said.
Thanks for sharing Doug. It is good to get out, even in the bad weather.
It really is David. Haven’t heard from you for a while. Hope you are still getting the miles in.
Great looking ride Doug, it's a lovely place you have up there! If a tree that is stood next to a path gets blown down it has a circle of 360° from which to choose where to land. So why does it always land ... 🤬 ...? (Answers on a postcard please, to Mr grumpy...) 😁 👍
Haha Tony. I suppose it’s the same law that makes your toast land butter side down! Hopefully they’ll get the chainsaws into them and get them cleared soon.
Lol, aye Doug. If I still had a log burning fire the trails near me would be clear for sure! 🪓🪚😁
There’s certainly a fair bit of fuel lying around out there.
@@specializeddoug yes, it upsets me having to leave it 😭🙂
Great ride! I did it a few years ago with a mate on mountain bikes. We started from Corran, but rode up Cona Glen and over the pass to Glenfinnan before the long ride down Loch Shiel, and then the harder climb over to Strontian. It has been described as one of the best Gravel routes in Scotland. Thanks for sharing.
It really is a special route Graham. We loved it, some tough climbs and the scenery is stunning. Pleased that you enjoyed it.
Lovely video and nicely narrated keeping my interest up…Thanks for sharing. Little bit of constructive feedback - the music is a bit loud and makes your commentary difficult to hear. Beyond that, a great insight into the Dumfries and Galloway area for bikepacking 👍👍
Pleased that you enjoyed it. I think the sound varies with different devices but on my more recent videos I’ve reduced the music volume so hopefully that won’t be an issue going forward.
A great place to ride when the weather isn't the best. Though you could hardly get better winter weather than Sunday!
Yip it’s a pretty decent surface DDW. We hadn’t been up there for a while but it was a nice crisp winter’s day and good to get back out.
Not been up there for ages.
Me neither WW. It was nice to get rid of some cobwebs.
