My son and I love to go fishing. We didn't have a boat, so one day I came home with this clunker for us to restore. We stripped it down and customized it over the course of a couple weeks as time permitted. We think we did a pretty good job.

    Smart man...smart fix. Just finished installing it however, wondering how long before the PCV part wears and pops off the ball from constant turning. Think this is a temp repair and the drag line part should be replaced. But for now, it works.

    • @PepperJackStudio
      @PepperJackStudio Před rokem

      Yup, I’d agree that it’s a temporary fix. Actually I’ve had to make the same repair about 6 times since posting the video 5 years ago, but it’s always quick and easy and always free. The last time I did it, I actually changed it so that instead of having a slot all the way across the length, I cut it so that one end is still a complete “ring” (at the ball end) to help keep it from spreading apart. So far so good. Thanks for watching and commenting, and good luck!

    I have an Ariens 42" 17'5hp manual trans mower essentially identical to yours. Turns out I had about 50' of PVC I was using for an irrigation system. Snipped off 3", bought 2 hose clamps to fit, and put her together. DEAD EASY!!! THANK YOU!

      Uh, measured everything, then drilled the 5/16" hole, then used my chop saw to cut the line between each end and the middle. One gentle tap from my claw hammer and it was in place. Easy Peasy. THANKS AGAIN!

The boat is still in good shape, and we moved it to his place last year but unfortunately neither us use it nearly as much as we used to. We're both expecting to get more fishing in this year though! Thanks for watching and commenting, and good luck with your project!

    I'll add my thanks to the list. In my case, it was especially helpful because my ball joint failed a long way from my garage - across the road and probably a quarter mile into the woods where I mow some walking trails through the woods and overgrown fields. It was nice only needing to take a ratchet, a pvc sleeve, and a hose-clamp out there to make the fix and drive it back home. Especially nice with the heat wave we've been having. Let me know your favorite charity and I'll make a donation in your name!

    Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it. I'm going to be starting a restoration/modification of my late Dads 16' 1976 Mirro-Craft Deep Fisherman soon. I just looked her over today and she's looking good except for the bench seats, which are a mess. We did a lot of salt water fishing in it, and I had modified it like Tim Coleman( the late New England Fisherman editor) recommended in his book, To Catch A Bass. Now she's going to be a freshwater fly-fishing platform. Looking forward to making casting decks and you gave me some good ideas. I had a few laughs about Nicks hard work and Dads comments. Trailer work is exactly as described! Nice to see you represent Massachusetts so well. Us sportsmen here work for everything we get!

    • @PepperJackStudio
      @PepperJackStudio Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I agree that if it eventually breaks and pops off then you'd lose steering control, but that's the same as would happen anyway. This is just a band-aid fix to get you up and running again so you can finish mowing your lawn. Honestly, I've had this temporary fix in place since 2017, going into the 4th year, so probably 50+ uses on a 1/2 acre bumpy lot with a lot of direction changes. Had to swap it out once last year but put a new one on and I'm still mowing with it. If it helps some people out of a jam like it seems to have, I'm happy.

    • @PepperJackStudio
      @PepperJackStudio Před 3 lety

      Yes, it's a quick fix but it will certainly get you out of a jam and buy you some time if you want to spend the money. I've had to swap out the piece 3 times in 3 years but it's cheap and easy and I can be back on the mower in 10 minutes.

    This is actually Jeff. This was a nice, easy fix. I did it slightly different. First I sliced the 3" pvc once, then drilled a measured hole on the sliced side only, wedged it in and tapped through using a hammer. The hole fit around the bottom of the ball, then tightened it with a hose clamp. Drove the mower around and it's holding. Thanks for your helping fix this problem,

    • @PepperJackStudio
      @PepperJackStudio Před 4 lety

      It’s very stable, whether there’s only one person or up to 3 in the boat, even up on the deck in the bow. Probably because it’s so darn heavy. Haha. We’ve never had a tipping issue. Sorry, I don’t know how it compares to a jon boat, I’ve never been in one.
