Increase photo DPI using Gimp to upload for Kindle Direct Publishing

This video shows how to increase the DPI/dots per inch of a photo by: opening a photo in Gimp, scaling the photo by increasing width, height, and resolution (PPI/pixels per inch), and exporting the photo. It also shows how to change your preferences in Gimp to allow large image sizes. I learned how to do this because I am publishing a colour print children's book on Amazon and even though I too...

    Oh my word! How glad am I to have found your tutorials 🎊. I'm a colour pencil realism artist who's making a paradigm shift and going into producing cards, planners etc. I've dived into Canva on my own and watched some tutorials that zoom through the app at lightning speed so it's amazing to watch a tutorial that explains things step by step. I'm definitely going to watch all the tutorials that you have and get going. Thank you, thank you! Sandi from Cape Town, South Africa.

    • @gotlovetech9004
      @gotlovetech9004 Před 3 lety

      Great question, Irene! You can use a ruler to find the centre of the card and make very light pencil marks at the top and bottom. Then place your ruler along the centre line, using your two pencil marks to guide you. Then run a 'bone folder' (see below *) along the ruler, being careful to hold the ruler and the paper steady. This makes an indent, which makes it easier to fold the card and prevents creases and cracking. The indent will be along the outside of the card. *If you don't have a bone folder, you can use any hard object with a narrow edge that won't cut - the back side of a butter knife, for example. You can find bone folders at many craft centres.

    • @woodsmcleod
      @woodsmcleod Před 4 lety

      Thank you, Christopher! I had not noticed that. You can fix it by making the image smaller and moving it over to the right. The space in the centre needs to be twice as large as the space on the outside. I will try to make a corrected video soon!

    I am trying to print my design on a already folded card. Do you know what dimensions I can use to set the card up on Canva (4x6) and are you familiar with printing on cards that come folded? Thanks in advance!

    • @gotlovetech9004
      @gotlovetech9004 Před 4 lety

      Hi Suad, thank you for your question. For setting your custom dimensions, you can choose inches (in). The default is pixels (px). Once you choose inches, you can enter 4X6 if you are making a landscape card, and 6X4 if you are making a portrait card. It should not be a problem that the card is pre-folded. You can unfold it, and use manual feed on your printer. When the card is feeding into the printer, it can help to put even and gentle pressure on the bottom of the card paper to make sure it feeds in evenly past the fold. Otherwise, the fold may cause the paper to jam or twist. Each page of your card will be divided in two halves: For the first page of paper, the first half of the paper will be the back of your card when the paper is folded, and the second half of the paper will be the front of your card when the paper is folded. For the second page of paper, the first half of the paper will be the left side of the card when the card is opened (usually blank), and the second half will be the right side of the card when the card is opened (sometimes has writing). When you are printing, make sure you know which side of the paper will get printed on (I mess this up all the time!), and print one page, and then re-insert the paper (carefully choosing which way to place it) to print the second side. You might want to do a test print on some plain printer paper to make sure you have your paper orientation the way you want it. I hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions. Warm regards, Chelsea

      What a wonderful question! I had not even thought about adding music. I found a way to add video and share the card as an ecard using a link. I haven't checked audio files, but I think you will need to add a video with music, because I don't see an option for audio. I don't think you can download the card with the video/audio. Here is a link to a card I made with video that has sound: bit.ly/2Sbq7GT I used the upload tab to upload my video. To get the link, I clicked on the down arrow next to print cards at the top right, and then I chose 'share link'. I then copied the link and used bit.ly to shorten it. Cheers and Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Posadas, Feliz Navidad, Próspero Año y Felicidad...
