Thank you for posting this footage. I used to trainmspot at Moor Lane Bridge and St Helens Bridge in those years. It was great to see Dringhouses Yard and Chaloners Whin as I remember them. Such good times.
Judging by the cars its at least 1965
I was four years old when these & safe airs argosy we're decommissioned in 1990
Dearb,Donny Tinsley all rolled in to one
My last flight on a F27 Fokker Friendship was in June 1986. Flying home after racing in the 1986 New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships. 42nd in the Senior Girls race from memory. Used to fly the NAC in the early 1970s.
Feeling my age here 😮. I flew from Auckland to Nelson in June 1986 and back for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships on oneofthese. . That sound is distinctive and deafening.
An excellent film , I know all of these locations , some now , sadly , closed . It would seem my namesake was somewhat as fast a driver as I am !
Kev Kramer the Senior Conductor too. A legend!
Would the power of been off during this?
I don't think so, the pole used is a special insulated one, exactly for use in these situations (or so I imagine). Also notice how he rests the pole against the metal body of the loco before touching the pantograph.
I'm certain I saw a Friendship at Taupo circa 1990 but not sure if they ever flew there.
£16.50 for a three course meal is the equivalent to £45 in 2024
I wish we could get back to this England speaking local dialects. Multiculturalism does nobody any favours
I was at that Derby open day. I saw those Deltics at Doncaster work around that time too.
I so miss the 'ol whistler!
Shush.....!!!!!
Bittersweet, seeing how varied and interesting rail traffic was, back in the day. Very grateful for those who have recorded those days for us.
There's always a know it all interfering like the auld boy at 4.27 😂
I’m gonna go on that this year
I’m gonna go on that this year
I just loved these aircraft and I miss seeing them in the skies.
Brilliant 👏
Hi everyone where was the transpennie exscap class 185 177 going to?
That sound reminds me of an old Baldwin locomotive……with a turbocharger sound thrown in for good measure.
i had a friend who quit the railway after having four suicides in one week.
Unfortunately, the railways were bad then and are bad now. This old system looks like a monkey-making scheme for the conductors 🤷
Hi Trevor, do you mind if we used parts of your footage in a video describing the build of a model of Dawlish, please? Thanks
Generator class 47/4 suggests pre-May 1988. It was that timetable change from 16th Mat that Gateshead depot closed and the Trans-Pennine services got new locos from CD, which soon received the same names
They had proper dinner service on intercity in the 90s!!!!? Why does it suck so much these days
Thanks for posting. My first flight was in an air new zealand f27 from invercargill to christchurch when i was 13. Fond memories
Funny to think both types are now almost totally retired (except for a few HSTs in Scotland)
The car carrier something else great footage 👍
There are about 5 or 6 documentaries that I keep coming back to watch. This is one of them. I wish I could buy it on DVD.
Great documentary. Immeasurably better than the crap they make these days.
This happened nearly 40 previous years ago in 2023. They are slam door 🚪 trains 🚊. In the present 💝 days, there are more modern trains 🚊 because they are comfortable. Dawlish is in Devon in the southwest of England 🏴. I have been to Dawlish in the past. There are 2 Dawlish railway 🚃 stations 🚉 are Dawlish and Dawlish Warren. Today in 2023, Dawlish has railway 🚃 staffed willl become unstaffed which means the ticket 🎫 office will be closed because more people do it online everyday. Here is the crappy 💩 2 car class 142 pacer which was in the southwest of England 🏴 from 1986 to 1988 and again from 2007 to 2011. The 2 car class 142 pacer trains 🚊 are nodding donkey 🫏 trains 🚂 🚆 🚊 🚊 because they bounce a lot. Now 60 out of 96 of the 2 car class 142 pacer trains went to the scrapyard. Hip hop hooray 😄, hip hop hooray 😃, hip hop hooray 😁. It serves the 2 car class 142 pacer trains 🚊 right for being scrapped. Rest in peace ☮️ ✌️ 2 car class 142 pacer trains 🚊. 👍
🇬🇧👍🤝🇬🇦
This wonderful footage and outstanding sound make me feel like enjoying a musical gig with the artist playing amidst the audience. Still gives me the creeps...
Great video!
I'm pretty sure HSTs weren't diagrammed into Devon and Cornwall until 1980. Maybe this one was on a special, or perhaps the year is incorrect.
Late to the chat but it’s funny that the 47 on the back is given less attention given the lack of diesel traction and the rarity of seeing the 37 on ‘roids class 40 a few who gathered to see it bothered to watch the 47, including the owner of this clip yet no mention in the title, just the 40. Class 47, untiring and under appreciated I was pleased to see you in this clip, one day there will be a vid for you but while there is mainline work for you you’ll continue to slip under the radar you magnificent beast.
0:49 50050 fearless is the loco that’s still preserved as of today
St Paul's Dock was popular place film off I usually sat on top P-Way hut to right towards Holgate sidings had some lovely shots off here one being Mallard in Steam pic I posted online last year about 700like from early 80's seen all sorts Inc TNT train use run up to ICI callerton no longer there Newcastle Metro branches off to airport near where Dynamite place was. I started on British Rail in late 80's. One day TNT train at stand at Holgate with hot axle box😂 those poor folk along side railway at Holgate probably never any idea just how much Dynamite was on that train if caught 🔥one hell of 💥 certainly would heard it all over York had it gone pop
Why the drivers always don’t want o blow the whistle!?👺
💪👍
Caledonian, the most beautiful of all liveries.
That driver called Roy.... What a lad! Could listen to blokes like him telling tales all day long.
Brings back so many happy memories of train spotting at Melton Mowbray back in the 1970s when these workhorses were a regular sight every day Miss those days so much
I spotted from 1965 to 1975 further down the line in P'boro, and these 20's were as common as rocking horse crap..... Maybe, a pair would turn up on a mixed freight working on the odd Sunday (replacing the booked pair of 25's) and that would be the lot. Very, very rare loco's in P'boro...
My lords
So cool to see this. That damn carpet. Lols.
8:10 class 47 to the rescue!
