Installing Home Assistant on VMware Workstation Player
Thank you for watching. In this video we will demonstrate how to install Home Assistant on VMware Workstation Player. Workstation Player is a free 'Hypervisor' which can allow your PC to run one or more virtual machines. A virtual machine is a software representation of a physical computer used to run programs and deploy apps. Using this method can be a very low cost way of deploying Home Assistant.
It is however not recommended to permanently run Home Assistant in this way. If the PC used is also used for other things, such as gaming or other intensive operations, you will experience performance issues. Where possible it is recommended to use separate hardware, such as the Raspberry Pi or a low powered PC.
Download VMware Workstation Player from www.vmware.com/uk/products/workstation-player/workstation-player-evaluation.html

Great guide. Thank you for that. It took a while and I had to play the video at 75% speed with german subtitles. Deviating from the video, i used the router firmware. And now i have a powerful router for my Home Asistant Zigbee network. The Sonoff stick was useless as a coordinator because I bought 2 SMLIGHT SLZB-06 LAN sticks.
At the test part my duckdns domain takes me to my Linksys router login page.
Thank you! Really easy to follow and much better that HA's own guide
Thank you, great guide, done in 10m
thanks
Hope that password wasnt real because you just divulged it
Can an esphome bluetooth proxy be used to stream music to blietooth speakers or is it only designed to send simple commands to bluetooth devices like fans and lights?
Thank you for the guide! I successfully flashed the dongle with the router firmware instead of the coordinator firmware, and it worked perfectly.
the configuration.yaml code is different for me The entries under homeassistant.autogen dont show up
Verifying by comparing CRC32 calculations. Verified (match: 0xe83aa727) ERROR: int() can't convert non-string with explicit base Помогите пожалуйста! У меня не работает.
Does this work with everything that takes a battery like buttons, switches as well as sensors?
Thanks for the explication, worked first time.
You have no idea for how long I have been searching a solution to my AC in HA !!! I Will keep in touch. Thank you so much !!!!🙏🤗
Thanks! But why the irritating music?!!!!!
Thanks, great video. I am trying to move my HA from a raspberry pi to a my Nas.
Tks bro very much <3
you save my life!
Hello, I lost the home assistant Login data, is there a possibility to recover it ?
thx
You are the best!!! Watched other videos but that didn't work for me! Thank you so much!!!!!

Same error, anyone know how to fix? I tried other versions and same error
I got the same error too. Was the flashing successful or not?

this must be the best tutorial on youtube. no nonsense and i only had to pause for the upload of the file.
The console instructions are slightly outdated due to recent updates, it's recommended to use the Home Assistant discovery protocol by sending command "SetOption19 0" instead of "on".
I've not yet worked with ESPHome, but plan to soon. I just want to confirm (as I have no clue yet) when you talk about "Home Assistant" you are referring to Google Home Assistant, right? We can interface ESPHome to our 'Hey google!" stuff? While I'm at it, we have a lot of TP-Link outlets that are nicely controlled by Google Home Assistant. Can these also be controlled via ESPHome as well? Thanks in advance for any info.
All went well, got to the ha> in the console, but when trying IP:8123 in a browser, a bunch of errors popup sayimg error installing HA. Same errors yesterday using another video. One difference for me, instead of local-lvm, I chose my NVMe drive. Tried local-lvm. Failed. Internet issues I have to overcome. Even with my failures and being a newbie, excellent video. 😂 I'M the idiot. I had network access control turned on.😮😂😊 Works perfect and chose my NVMe drive to boot. Excellent instructions!
This was very well done thank you very much. I learned a lot. I guess the Grafana updated at some point because when we first started to say, (9:01) delete the panels that were on the screen, I wasn't able to do that and I kind of muddled around and created a new dashboard and then followed along with you.
Verifying by comparing CRC32 calculations. Verified (match: 0xe83aa727) ERROR: int() can't convert non-string with explicit base PS C:\Users\hodst\downloads\sonoff\cc2538-bsl-master> after the last command i received an ERROR, what is the meaning of this ERROR and how can i fix it?
Same issue here, anyone have a solution please?
@@paulwisher6458 Same issue here ... but the stick works and I can see that the new firmware is flashed. However still curious what the message means.
thank you that was very helpful =)
I hitted with timeout issue while downloading image, suspecting the number of tags too much lead to timeout (other image is ok), I solve it via ssh into terminal and using command to docker pull image
Excellent video which helped greately after my new Sonoff dongle didn't respond to the bootloader button. However I couldn't get the first two command lines Python commands to work after installing following your method. In the end I installed Python from the Windows store instead and then everything worked perfectly. (using latest Windows 11 and admin )
After fowoling all steps (all settings exactly same) when i Start VM I receive this message in proxmox 8.1.3: QEMU exited with code 1. Any tips how to resolve it?
Work for me in my homelab in 2024. Thanks A lot!
one of the rare instances where the addons are harder to configure than the docker containers, lol thank you
Do I still need to use duckdns if I have a fixed static IP ?
I did literally this and my zigbee2mqtt instance doesn't start as well as mqtt broker. This video covers only super basic migration scenario.
If you use this method now then be sure you you type in the wright com version!! the text form smart home is COM3 But i had to typ in COM5 Thanks a lot for this video!!
There seems to be a step missing between downloading the backup and starting it in the VM. IE, how do you import it into the VM?
You don’t check at 3’20. You should have you backup available on the PC you have open the browser (or via network)
thanks... this tutorial still works on 2024
Thanks worked like a charm (I got the Error 3 using the TI utility method) - also I used the current firmware (with your process)
Hi, i have followed the video managed to connect with duckdns domain but it still showing connection not secure.. any help ? thank you
Thanks very much
vmware is not even an option anymore on the downloads page.
This tutorial is great! Thank you
damn straight to the point and works perfectly for me, best tutorial ive seen so far
Hi. Brillant Tutorial. I just flashed my dongle. Only one suggestion; your last python command, to flash de dongle, contains the filename of the firmware which includes a date. The latest version of the firmware is no longer ...\20220219.hex. You might want to specify somewhere that this command needs to be adapted to the latest version of the firmware. Thank you!!!
You say that you will link to fundamental information in the beginning of your video, but like som many youtubers you didn't leave the mentioned link in the deskription. Please update your deskription. Thanks
Thank you so much! This was the only way that works for me! Great tutorial!
Process stops with with following messages Leaving... Hard resetting via RTS pin... INFO Successfully uploaded program. INFO Starting log output from /dev/ttyUSB1 with baud rate 115200 Anyone a suggestion? I thaught that my output port and cable were too fast maybe for this baud rate, so I plugged it into an ancient usb adapter (which I used before for this purpose) but no ... nothing happens Screen of the device stays black/dead. Any suggestion is welcome
If you remove the awkward pauses and silences this video would be about 3 minutes long.
