3RD GEN 4RUNNER BED PLATFORM & STORAGE BUILD | simple, low-cost, functional
This video details the rear cargo bed platform and drawer storage system that I built in my 3rd gen (02) 4runner. This is a low-cost and relatively simple build that my father and I completed in one day. I tried to include as many details as possible, but know that I certainly missed some instructions. Don't hesitate to reach out if you need any additional clarification.

96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01, 02 3rd gen 4runner storage and platform build. Detailed video coming soon. Edited with GoPro app
Simple yet so effective my man thank you
This is brilliant. Gonna copy it exactly.. might do my own measurements... Thank You!
Now I need someone that can help me build it lol
Badass, make a build guide.
Do you think it’s possible to make a platform for a 4 runner that is 6’8?
Any chance can get a material guide?
Would you ever make another one to sell?
Best build out ive seen, nicely done. I really like the false top on drawer, perfect cooking space
Great build. I may have to design mine based on yours. Thanks
Brilliant!
DUDE! This was fuckin bad ASS!! Saved, liked and shared! For those of you interested; i included a link to a guy who did some fabrication on his 4runner that im saving up for to do on mine: czcams.com/video/mbxIRfTp45I/video.htmlsi=mpHT1JU7CzDEq9Ux extra storage is always gravy!
Nice build!
Genius!
What is the width of the platform
I'm going to do something similar in mine without the bed platform. I am also going to cut out homes along the 2x4 and in the base of the drawers housing to lighten it up. Using large pieces of ply like this makes it REALLY heavy and I'm not sleeping on it.
The dogs water & food bowl. Is cute ❤
excellent
Thank you Mattie!!
Genius
Awesome!
Exactly what I've been looking for being 5"10...Please tell me you have a diagram/build sheet? New Subscriber 👍 👍..Looks AWESOME..lmk
BRAVO ZULU! Excellent job.
Love this build! Gearing up to get started on putting this together myself. Matt, after using it a few years anything you would change or do differently?
"If you wanna use the back seats, you can." Immediate like.
fuck the back seats
The aggression lolll But, I know how you feel. I tossed the 3rd row out of my suburban. Like, "I dont need it." Haha
@@florindagonzalez5700 I'm 6'2. So, the back seats have to go, I sleep head to hatch so my feet can hang
Excellent job matt coming from a contractor I’m thinking and wondering if adding some UHMW along the top sections on the left and right far sides (on underside of the 3/4” ply top ) would help guide and support the drawer - was there a reason why you didn’t
Cool Build
Great Build Matt! Thx for the Video!
muy bueno! tengo una toyota igual y voy a copiar tu camper. gracias!
At 6'3 I can barely fit in the back of may 4th gen with no adjustments to the front seats 😂 Looking forward to building something like this so I don't have to sleep next to my gear!
Nice job, I like the simplicity of it.
Yeah nice touch with those beverage holders on either side of the platform build. Really good job on that👍🏼👍🏼
Nicely done! This is way more efficient than the one I use for my 3rd Gen. I will be building your version soon I hope!
Matt, I’ve watched what seems to be all of the build out videos for Toyota and yours is far and away the nicest cleanest build! Thanks for the great concise video.,
Looks very practical.. Nice
Great job! My rear passenger storage hatch compartment door is much smaller, did you build that one or is it factory.
it's factory. they got bigger in the later years.
WICKED PISSAH!
That is EXACTLY the issue I am facing with my '99! Brilliant, thanks!
How tight did you get the sides of the storage wings to the interior trim of the car? And did you brace the wings underneath at all? Thanks!
I got them pretty snug! (Cardboard cutouts and trial/error worked wonders). And yes, there are some one inch “runners” bracing the wings
@@mattieinthemountains1812 thanks!
Nicely done. Thank you.
Did you use a circular saw when cutting the strips of uhmw?
Hey man getting ready to do the same build and have yet to find another setup this solid. I will be mimicking your design and wanted to ask if there was anything you would change after using it for a year
Hi Bill! Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing. It is still in perfect condition and has had a lot of use. This weekend, I had two grown adults and 3 large dogs on the platform. It is SOLID. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I have so far!
@@mattieinthemountains1812 awesome to hear man started the build today
@@mattieinthemountains1812 somewhat struggling to gauge the angled cuts to account for the ceiling when folding. Would rather wait and see what you got than guess and check. I see. You made the in cut at 42” but at what angle?
@@billblow5739 Hi Bill, to be honest, this was a bit of trial and error. I guessed at first and then cut it down slightly to make it fit. Wish I had a better answer!
Thanks for all the measurements and the attention to detail! I love the poly drawer slide idea. The drawer slides I found were $50-90 per pair so this will help me save alot
I'm getting dizzy watching this video.
I wanna do this to mine but does all the stuff really rattle around when you're offroading it? or does it stay relatively tight?
super sick set up
How do you prevent the drawer from moving out completely and falling on the ground? Is there any stop mechanism?
Super clean set up!
This is the slickest setup for a 4Runner I've seen in a long time. Great attention to detail and maximizing all space. I didn't expect to see a full backseat there under the platform! Suhweeeeeet
Love it ! Looking for ideas for my 3rd gen. This one is the best so far. <3 Thanks for sharing.
Will the table support your weight? Can you sit on it like a tailgate land cruiser?
Probably could! But would not recommend...
