Great Job, I am getting the 6 BTV next month and I am wondering how to prepare the hole? How deep and what circumference diameter to fill with cement and what type of mast in length and diameter to fix in the ground and size to remain out for holding the 6BTV? Can you help please?

Good video. Minor twist. When at the box store getting the 4" PVC. Look for 4" drain pipe. Same as above but it has 3/4 holes every 6" and a PL-259 just fits nicely thru them leaving the tails in the center

One of those d'oh moments we've all had.

I salvaged a DX-Engineering Predator 6BTV. It was boxed and discarded. It is missing the third trap and the fourth trap can not be installed without the second trap's tube. Thus, I just assembled it with traps 1,2,5,6. It is great for receiving. An operator left a Yaesu FT-710aess in my repair bin back in March 2023. He has not contacted me, nor can I contact him through his telephone, cellular phone, nor email. It has been in the repair bin, with nothing wrong with it, since March. I am tempted to connect it to the broken predator antenna. What wonders could I receive? What secrets will I hear in the airwaves? Surely, connecting the Yaesu FT-710 will cause no harm to the radio. It does not seem as if the operator will be returning. I do not have any contract clause stating that abandoned equipment will be mine after any certain time. Thus, the radio is not mine, and possibly will never be mine. But, it really seams abandoned. I did not even find anything wrong with it. The problem must have been the antenna or power supply. The broken Predator 6BTV has already been installed. Just two tiny connections, and I could receive the world. I can not transmit anyway.

The Raspberry Pi is another thing that's so expensive today. I'm glad I purchased several pre Covid I have 5 RPI 3s and 6 RPI 4s (4Gig) I'm not selling any of them , I can always use the money and sell them for 4-5 times what I pay for them but they are way too useful to me . And I'm not the kind of person to price gouge people anyway. It's sad what the sellers are doing out there today. 😢

Just watched this video in 2023 the price of that wire is soooo much more expensive now😮 I made one of there antennas a while ago but it got ruined in a move. I'm going to use some scrap 10/2 Romex (stripped to make the next one.

Worst part is Nooelec's instructions are incredibly bad at explaining the actual drivers.

i'm doing well if I can keep my PVC builds to within a 1/16", or approximately 1.5 mm. Measure things as accurately as possible, but temper your expectations accordingly. Don't sweat a milimeter or two.

Thanks for the video! I can attest to the great performance of these Hustler Antennas. I had a 5BTV (80 thru 10 meters) with 8 radials on the roof of my 2-story house for many years. I could work anything station I could hear -- all over the world. It stood tall, straight, and proud through many wind storms with just 4 guy wires. I recently needed to get a new shingle roof and took the 5BTV down. I'm replacing it with a brand new one in its place and giving the old one to my son who is also a radio amateur. Long live these great vertical antennas.

ok so question.... i just did the same thing and was told 17 turns of rg8x.... I did that and it completely screwed up the 40m band. how many turns did you end up and how do you test it (put a dummy load on one end and put an analyser on the other and it was 1.2:1 1.8-50mhz)

Hi Jim I have the 4-BTV Multiband HF Vertical Antenna. I have it mounted to the side of my upstairs porch where there are no trees. I just ordered the DX Engineering DXE-AOK-DCF - DX Engineering Direct Coax Feed Add-On Kit shown in your video. I have the DX Engineering DXE-RADP-3 - DX Engineering Radial Plate but I don't know if I need it. I am not using a mounting pipe I attached the antenna base to a 4x4 on the porch. I have 4 brass 8n ft grounding rods. Can I run a line off the antenna base to the ground rods or do I need to run my coax down to the RADP? Any help would be great I have some photos of the connection to the wood. Where do I attach the ground at the antenna base since I am not using the RADP. The antenna booklet indicates I may not need radials. Thank you! Best wishes ~ Forrest

I uploaded everything to the Raspberry using a wifi connection with Putty and since my knowledge of Linux and Rasp is very low, I would like to know if the system is still working when I disconnect from Putty. And I would also like to know if when I turn Rasp off and on again, the system boots by itself or what instruction I should place. Thank you very much for all the help you can give me. Thanks so much for a very informative and well structured video. I've been playing with cubesat and weather sat telemetry decoding - all with indoor antennas as no allowed anything outside my flat - and always wanted to have a go at ADS-B. This got me up and running very easily! Using Nooelec SMART IV and Windows 8.1. 70cm HB9CV for the antenna, until I make something more appropriate. 🙂
