We are Rob and Pippa, newly retired, we’ve sold our house in Cornwall and set off in search of some peace and quiet. We will have news and views from us as we take our narrowboat "Frog In A Bucket" for a year long voyage exploring the canals of England and Wales.

We continue our walk, discovering the beauty of the Bridgwater & Taunton Canal. This section is almost all rural, a few boats but mainly a haven for kayakers and paddle boarders.

We come to the end of our Odyssey and finally say goodbye to the beautiful Frog in a Bucket. We cruise for 10 days from Leighton Buzzard to Cropredy on the Grand Union and Oxford canals and are joined by Dave and Julie our Canadian friends. We take a road trip to Liverpool and a train ride to Oxford before saying goodbye to our life aboard and hello to our new home in Somerset.

We continue our odyssey - heading south on the Grand Union from Long Buckby to Leighton Buzzard. On the way we revisit where we very first saw The Frog, tackle the Blisworth tunnel (again), see the site of a possible NEW Canal and the longest train mural we have ever seen.

I was fortunate enough to do my Inland Waterways Helmsman course at Somerset boat centre , had a brilliant instructor and thoroughly enjoyed the 2 days ,didn’t really want it to end. That’s a real endorsement of how good it was that you didn’t want it to end. It’s such a shame that here aren’t more boats on this section of canal, though I know it’s only short. We’re looking forward to our next leg, once this rubbish summer weather allows!

Us too, we both worked in Bridgwater for a while many years ago and remember the docks area being quite busy and everything looks better either way colourful boats. Hopefully the levelling up fund will be used wisely. Thanks for watching. X

This used to be my grandads boat when it was in Northampton. It would be great to see the boqt again and im so pleased that it is being used to explore so much!

The Frog was moored next to us for a while and is now only a couple of boats away. In fact i was pulled out of the water by the crew when I fell in early this year! Have often wondered what the story was. I kind of assumed you whould be French! LoL
Oh dear, Rob fell in at least 3 times! We did not name her but heard from the original owners that told us the story behind the name. He was a bit of a fidget and never sat still. There’s a story of a frog that was stuck in a bucket of cream, he jumped about so much that it turned into butter and he was able to jump out. So the boat was called Frog In A Bucket. No French involved! Where is she moored now? Glad they saved you!
@@FrogInABucketThe previous owner had the Frog at Greenham Lock Cottage Marina near Newbury. The new owners bought her early this year and have kept her there at least for now.

Hi Mick. That’s a very hard question to answer as there were good bits and not so good bits about them all. Rob particularly liked the Peak Forest for the views, I loved the South Oxford for the lovely villages that we went through. Lots of boaters rave about the Shroppie but we were not that enamoured with it, quite straight and hard to moor due to the shelf. Staffs and Worc is also up there as one of our favourites, not as many locks and very picturesque as well as fun to go along as it’s a proper contour canal with lots of twists and turns. Rob is currently writing a book about our adventures that should be available on Amazon by the end of the year. Are you also a boater?

As far as who has priority at a lock, shouldn't it be whoever has the lock in their favor? Just because you are a bit closer you doesn't mean you would empty a lock without a boat going down if they are fairly close. Oh and nice video.

Blimey be careful mooring at wigan they will Rob you blind ,you won't see any boats moored in the wigan canals only from Parbold.
We had no trouble in Wigan at all and spent one night there, several other boats there too. Maybe we were lucky.
I watch vlog - preferably in chronological order - to experience the tranquility of a canal boat life and journeys. I real life there would not be music playing unless you had a boom box on the cabin top constantly. The music is not conducive to a real life experience especially when it is the same piece of music over and over again. I hope this is not the case.🙂
Natural sounds are not always possible for various reasons hence our use of music. That way viewers always have the option to turn the volume down
