Trading Blows with the Manticore
Stoneshard Beta 0.8.2.10
Once again, credit to Beese/Thraxfast in the Stoneshard Discord server for the build. The fight wasn't very smooth and took a lot longer than I thought it would. I suppose missing or fumbling 50% of your attacks is to be expected when you don't invest in accuracy or fumble reduction. With the sturdiness potion active, I could theoretically reach up to 246 max health, not bad at all. However, the maximum possible is 307 health (with sturdiness active), which I'll get later this run.

Rapidly Roasting the Manticore

Once again a pretty easy bossfight. Having low move resistance due to wearing light boots means that the skeletons are actually somewhat dangerous. Their basic attacks can immobilize you, which can easily result in death during the Manticore fight. Stoneshard Beta 0.8.2.7

Pyromancy is quite strong, if you know how to wield it. I made a rather large mistake near the end by not waiting to see what the troll would do after I stepped. The troll walked up when I thought he would walk towards me, so I accidentally walked into boulder toss range. Stoneshard Beta 0.8.2.7

This was a difficult fight, but I did it! No hits on the Manticore, unless you count one or two Raise Boulders hitting him. All of my damage came from damage reflection, Stone Armor, and the occasional counter attack. He also hit himself a few times via his spells backfiring, now that it is fixed. Tried a damage reflection build versus the troll... it wasn't very effective. The main issue with using damage reflection against bosses is that they have a very large HP pool in comparison to how much damage they deal with melee attacks. A dodge focused build is always risky when fighting the Manticore, but it ended up working out. I found a secret room in an undead distant dungeon, which got me two uniques that I didn't end up using, so I thought I'd bring them to the fight to flex. Stoneshard Beta 0.8.1.14

I really messed up the build which made for a harder fight than usual. I think Right on Target dagger would be better if you took skills from the Armored Combat tree or Elusiveness. Having armor as your only defense is not a good choice. I also didn't bring enough healing so I had to retreat and use the crossbow to finish the fight. Stoneshard Beta 0.8.1.11

The troll fight was "fixed" so that he no longer uses his regeneration when you are adjacent to him. This doesn't complicate the fight, but it does make it take longer for builds lacking 2 range attacks. The spec into survival, I don't think I've ever really thought about taking any skill from there... If it was like the caravan trees being added and seperat from the skill tree I'd like it alot more I think... Why'd you spec into it so much if I may ask?
This is a friend's build that tries to maximize the benefits of Berserk Tradition. Getting high max health makes First Aid and Will to Survive better, as well as making it harder to be injured. The cryomancer mantle is definitely not the best chestpiece to wear, but I wanted as much health as possible.

How to broaden vision?
The pathfinder skill and leveling up perception can both increase your vision range. Also the clear vision buff from an artifact.

solid. i really dont understand the archer class at all. i usually get so tired of missing my shots that by lvl 5 or 6 i quit and start someone else. what is the trick early game (like below lvl 10)?
Use the Taking Aim skill. You should rarely miss. It is mandatory for bows and I wish the developers made that a bit clearer. Bodkin arrows/bolts give bonus accuracy. Stuff like boxes and enemies can block your shots so try not to shoot over them. In fact, I was only able to hit the Troll without aiming because of this interaction. He is large so he blocks my shots, which hit him instead of the ground where I was aiming.

Sick run man. I can never do Bow runs I always die early on...
be patient, it's the most punishing class by far in the game as beside distracting shot you have no means of distancing yourself, it won't be like the other classes where you can just bruteforce you way into the game. I played dirwin as my first character without any knowledge pf the game whatsoever and learned most of the game's mechanics as an archer, yeah it's torture, especially when I finally decided to try a melee class with sword shield arna and just blitz through the early levels in like an hour compared to dirwin, but I like it the way that it is, it's rewarding, and I like the perks pf being able to hunt and skin my own animal kills, it's refreshing.
How come the troll you guys fight just throws shockwave while I get swiped? Is there a pattern to the swipe?
He uses the shockwave ability whenever you are in range and it's off cooldown. All you have to do is wait for shockwave to be off cooldown, get a free hit, then walk away until he can use it again. The Ancient Troll doesn't get attacks of opportunity on the player.
