    Oh, you can lose weight. I have you just stop eating pretty much. You only eat enough to stay alive. That is actually the key to it. So sad.

      Um, yes food is nutrition, not entertainment, not consolation. People get fat because they eat too often, they eat thr wrong foods, and the foods offered to us are intrinsically unhealthy. If you eat real food, whole unprocessed food not cooked in industrial oils and you don't eat all day long, the weight comes off. If you are menopausal, that's different. Replace the hormones, be normal

    Thank you both for an interesting discussion 😊 I'm in the UK, and while we have fantastic educators such as Dr Louise Newson, that knowledge isn't transferring to the NHS doctors very quickly. Women take the time to learn about menopause and treatments, then go to their doctor only to be met with obstacles and refusals. And with "HRT causes breast cancer" at every appointment. So it isn't quite as rosy as you may think over here. The big change is that we women are challenging this, going to our appointments prepared, and asking for what we need. Dr Louise Newson has a private practice, so while NHS prescriptions are free or reduced in the UK to see a private practitioner is expensive. I'm in Scotland, and although prescriptions are free for me, my HRT options are more limited than in private healthcare. For example, Intrarosa isn't available to prescribe where I am, and in some other areas around the UK testosterone is not on the formulary at all. We're awaiting the publication of updated NICE guidelines on menopause very soon, so hopefully there will be an overall improvement in menopause education for doctors and nurses, and therefore the standards of care to all us women 💛

    not sure fasting is good for us women, we can't get enough protein and calcium with a short feeding window... I think if you are fasting it can make you fatter. I switched back to a big early breakfast of animal sources of protein and vegetables and green salad. much better than fasting till lunch - three meals with 40g of protein each meal is achievable.

    regarding dairy, all the research shows dairy is not inflammatory "For most people, research does not support a consistent link between dairy and inflammation" and that's when they actually tested inflammatory markers. so unless you have a protein allergy what would be the benefit of not consuming it? For example to exclude fermented cheeses from your diet you are missing out on the bacteria in the fermented cheeses that are far more diverse than from fermented vegetables and the calcium and other micronutrients that are good for you.. probably better to talk about how you would know if you have 'inflammation' from dairy if you have no symptoms. I agree about alcohol it's a carcinogen. Being overweight and drinking are a toxic combination for inflammation, especially if someone is eating a lot of refined grains. A slice of edam? not so much a risk, I don't think. Thank you for this conversation it was very interesting. It's always interesting to hear how countries approach their screening. Did I miss ultrasound for screening if mammogram is not suitable? Just a point on not eating grains, I don't eat grains - nothing has happened to my detriment from excluding grains. I eat more vegetables - which is better for me and less calorie dense than grains, but when we are told we 'have' to eat grains, it's kind of crazy that one can feel so great not eating them!

    Find a doctor who knows about HRT. Doctors don’t learn about menopause in medical school. They don’t know about all of the symptoms. They don’t know about adrenaline spiking for no reason, they don’t know that it can cause brain changes and change your mood. They don’t know that menopause causes insomnia. It is way more than hot flashes. I suffered for a few years with a doctor who shut me down when I brought up the subject of menopause. Now that I have been on HRT for a few months, all of my symptoms are gone. Every single one. If a woman has new symptoms in her 50’s, how about doctors lean towards menopause, not antidepressants. Antidepressants are not a treatment for hot flashes.
