My band had the pleasure of opening for John Mayall in the mid nineties, and although John was a little standoffish Buddy was like your long lost friend…..We talk music for a long time and he was great!!

i moved to hurst texas in 71 from atlanta where the live music scene was fantastic, like the allmans band incuding duanne.... me and my two older sisters basically cried all the way to texas.... but it turns out atlanta lost its scene by 72, but in texas it was catching fire, i had no friends in texas and on friday and saturday nights i would go to a local park called Central Park in hurst tx to sit in the dark and play guitar., i would grab my acoustic and walk there, and lo and behold one night someone besides me had the same idea as me, and that was buddy whittington, roughly the same age and guitar skills, we were just learning guitar in our 3rd or 4th year of learning, and we were both really into it. many many nights it was just me and buddy sittin on concrete picnic tables playin in the dark, no one around, we went to two different schools so we only saw each other at the park at night, i saw him play recently and afterward he was standing outside, and i said "buddy, do you remember playin guitar with me at central park in 1971, he was shocked and said, "that was you? i said yeah, he said "that goes back to the beginning" it blew his mind. he remembered me. i got to know the vaughn brothers, anson fundrburgh, rocky athas, rusty burns, dimebag, vinnie, and many many more, etc... i loved the texas scene from the 70's 80's 90' 00;s 10's and the 2020's.......... God blessed Georgia and Texas

@John Coyle I can see you had to shoot against the sun, and this is always a big challenge for any type of camera!

What I found interesting, is that Andy continues to use is 1998 AT100SB prototype till this day.... I own one of the original 175 produced in 1999;

Thank you very much John Coyle! I first crossed path with Andy in the 90's, when he was actually playing Carpe Diem and Groove and Die at each appearance. It brings back fond memories! the 2024 DIGF takes place this week-end, unfortunately, the ATB is not performing this year....

I love Andys playing and sounds, but why copying Eric Johnsons fast backwards walking steps. And I’ve seen other guitarists do it too. Why?? It doesn’t look good.

I've been fortunate enough to see Andy play multiple times, on video and live. And...he NEVER fails to amaze me with what he can do, what he can play. He both inspires me to keep playing, while simultaneously reminding me to quit, 'coz I ain't never catching up with this train! Have not seen this video until today - thanks John Coyle - and once again, I'm walking the plank...
