    Super cool thanks for doing this video! I have that same guitar, a little beat up, but not quite like this one. I love mine to death. My dad got it for a few hundred in the early 2000's, and gifted it to me years later. Im looking to replace all of the saddles, screws, and tuning pegs. I looked this guitar up on-line and some are going for upwards of 1200 these days, with the original case. I just love having a pre-fender jackson, as someone born in '97, i feel like its a little piece of history. Im wondering what you'd recommend as far as saddles, locking pegs, and what size hardware i should be looking for. Sadly one of my original saddle screws have been bent over years of trem bar abuse. I was restringing and adjusting the other day, and it got screwed, for lack of better term, haha. So my short term is to find the right screw at the store, but really i think i want to replace everything with either brass or gold hardware, saddles, pegs, and volume knob. Id love to know your thoughts man, cheers

    For anyone who plays B/G benders or drop tune machine heads. My main guitar....baja telecaster had been slightly modified with strap pull B and G benders/Hipshot drop D tuner on the low E string and Schaller drop banjo tunes on the high E and A strings.....OK getting to the point.... I started out with a 3 barrel ashtray bridge....all strings would stay in tune on the lower 3/4 frets when activating the benders or lowering the drop tuners.... the future up the neck the worse it got.... I tried 3 different sets/different brand of the 3 barrel compensated saddles was a slight improvement but was still off the future up the neck when using the benders and drop tuners.... I ended up replacing the ashtray bridge with a Wilkinson 6 saddle bridge.... Brass saddles on the high E and B strings.... steel saddles on the G and D strings and aluminum saddles on the A and low E strings.... I figured that would help retain the twang of the traditional ashtray bridge and fix the intonation problem which it did.... I ended up doing the same thing to my 3 other bender teles....all brass saddles on 2 and all steel saddles on the 4'th one....cured the intonation issues and with a slight tweek on the amp no huge noticeable difference between the 6 and 3 saddle bridges.

    My advice is that if you value being almost precisely in tune most of the time, including accurate harmonics, that you avoid the compensated bridges. I have a Wilkinson bridge on my Suhr tele and it is infuriating to have to compromise each pair of strings being out of tune all of the time but in different directions.

    Nope, you should consider a SE Custom 24 if you want a SE Custom 24. Those guitars can easily stand on their own. The coil split doesn't make it a Strat and it doesn't sound as fat as a Les Paul either. If anything the tone reminds me a bit of a Gibson ES. But at the end of the day a PRS is a PRS.

    I have a Squier Affinity Telecaster and a Fender Players series Stratocaster. I swapped the bridge on the strat to a SD hot rails. I also swapped the bridge on the Squier to DiMarzio Chopper. I bought locking tuners for the Stratocaster, then drilled som new plugholes for the Squier and set it up with the Fender MiM tuners. I will swap the neckpickup for the telecaster later, and the mid and neck on the strat too! Later i might buy 500K pots, swap the telecaster bridge to a fender bridge, and maybe if i get rich buy a rosewood telecaster neck and swap that too! and the control plate, the knobs, it will be more Fender Custom Telecaster when i'm done with it, and the MiM Stratocaster will be more american when im done with it too, thinking maaaaaaaaybe switch to rosewood on the strat too, but i kinda like Pao Ferro for now. Might change the pickguard toa black one or the white diamond pattern pickguard. I have a cheap guitar from gear4music too, and that one has a Fender bridge pickup from the Stratocaster, planning to put the fender neck and mid to it when i'm done modding the Stratocaster. Then ill put in either EMG-J pickups for my fretless fender J bass, OR just Fender noiseless pickups! I also have a cheap bass with frets, may change the P and J pickup on it. When tat is done ( if i have not bought Ibanez RG550 at this point ) i will heavily modify the cheap guitar with new pots, switches, knobs, tuners, and then remove the fender pickups and instead buy something that sounds better than the original stock fender pickups, and convert it into a Floyd rose bridge and carefully remove the gear4music logo with fine sandpaper, and add a sticker that says Custom Guitar on it. Then i might sell the cheap guitar, or i might never sell it, depends how it turns out and how much i love it after im done! When i can afford the RG550 it doesnt really need to be customized, it already has everything it needs, except maybe the pickups, those are always fun to swap!

    As you've found, adjusting the truss rod doesn't fix high action. The problem is a bad neck angle from 50 years of string tension pulling the neck up. Only a neck reset can fix that, fixing the neck angle.

    On my Strat Deluxe from the same era the push-push button doesn’t split the humbucker. What it does, mostly, is change the phasing of the various pickups. My understanding it is their attempt to mimic a Gibson with it’s two humbuckers among other things. In the neck position, for example, it changes the sound from, well, a Strats neck puck-up to something a bit more like a Gibson neck pickip

  • @Kevin-mx1vi
    @Kevin-mx1vi Před 5 dny

    Here's a little tip; If your push-on control knobs also have a screw, try to line it up with one end of the slot in the split shaft. If it doesn't line up, try turning the knob 180 degrees to see if it lines up with the other side of the slot. Once you've done that, tighten the screw just a little and it will spread the slot so the shaft of the pot grips the control knob, but without damaging the splines on the shaft. You can check that the screw is lined up with the slot when the knob is on the shaft by taking it out and putting a pin or straightened paper clip down the screw hole.

We didn't go to the same school, I think, because everyone I know in lutherie does it with the guitar or bass in the playing position, and if necessary, and if the saddles (bridge and nut) are the right height, then it's easy to measure the string height according to the brand and factory measurements ... but I don't particularly like Yamaha guitars and basses, but rather Fenders and Gibsons ...

That's why it's 3.85k but you can figure out what the other pickup measures at by solving for the missing number in the parallel resistance equation. (P1+P2)/(P1*P2) or whatever it is. You know what P1 is. (8.74k + x)/(8.74k * X) And solve for X or whatever.

    How do they make them for that price? Easy. The company that builds these for Thomann's is an established company that's been around for like 4 or 5 decades already. They make guitars for Sterling by Music Man, Dean, Washburn, Ibanez, Aria, Harley Benton, Monoprice/Indio, and J&D Brothers Guitars, the house brand at The Music Store, also in Germany with Thomann's. If they were trying to build these themselves, they'd be a lot more because they'd have to build a factory, buy the machinery, hire workers, etc...and all of that gets priced into the guitars. When you use a company that's already established and builds 10s of thousands of guitars every year already, it keeps costs down for the company having their guitars built there.

    Neither, but i do like bridge #3. The Jazzmaster bridge with deep silver alloy saddles. It gives it that Gretsch slinky feel. czcams.com/video/P_XWoyvDJzE/video.htmlsi=Bz7mO8GxNHNCMwAP But, I do like the modern bridge better, for intonation control and a slinker feel.
