Lush at The Wiltern Theatre Los Angeles Dec 6th 1990
A bloody long time ago in an an indiesphere fairly far away.
So another unique live tape of another brilliant band who got within earshot of my cassette deck and camera lens. Most of the pics here were graciously supplied by Miki herself from the 1990 tour and the live sound is from Pete Bartlett's mixing console and skillful hands. Other pics were from a show in Nantes, France, 1990. The LA show was supporting Cocteau Twins. Enjoy.

Vintage Eventide H949 serviced doing crazy things with 70s logic

Before DSP there was Eventide. After the commercial availability of their harmonizers in the 1745M (an optional add-on) and H910 formats they took it even further. This box, unlike its predecessors, uses a microprocessor to slice and dice samples stored in RAM producing an early realtime backwards effect. Very clever and instantly recognisable on many records of the time.

AMS dmx 15-80 being used in 'Loc' mode. Possibly the first ever commercial sampler being used to edit and play some drums. This made tracks like Paul Hardcastle's Nineteen possible and was many recording engineers' introduction to drum replacement. Whole kits could have their sounds replaced or augmented albeit quite painstakingly. The audio input doubles as a trigger input in this mode.

2 Fully restored Focusrite Forte channels from the original 1988 Neve Focusrite company, the desk the other 9 modular Focusrite consoles were modelled after, which are well documented on here. In spite of, or perhaps because of, the fact that Leonard is losing his voice he turns out an awesome performance here with the whole band on absolute top form. Drums, backing vocals and everything show them firing on all cylinders a couple of years after the release of Stukas Over Disneyland. The band is introduced at one point. It's not often you find one of these in working condition so here's a little treat for vintage gear lovers. These units will soon be far flung so I thought I'd let them make a few chords with some simple guitar notes. I'm just using the PCM (Pitch Change Module) without any delay or other delays here.

I was at this gig, and also taped it (in stereo.) I recall my tape being maybe a tad clearer, but it is lost forever due to a sudden move out of Cambridge in the early nineties… :( If possible I would love to have a lossless copy of this recording. How donI contact you?
Thanks for the post. Been a fan of the dollies since the 80's. Northern university collage radio (wnur) had a copy of the Demonstration Tapes. Made a cassette and played the * outta it.
