There is no genocide occurring in Gaza. Calling Israel's effort to defend itself against a terrorist organization that indisputably has genocidal intent toward Israel and Jews worldwide a genocide is a baldfaced, antisemitic lie. Shame on Oakland Public Education for publishing this.

You entirely misunderstood the Meir quote. It has absolutely nothing to do with capitalism, funnily enough the 'zionist state' was founded on socialists policies and labour zionism. What she actually conveys is the idea that pre 60s the palestinian national consciousness has not awoken. The underlying identity of what would become palestinians were 'arabs' you can take endless historical examples although mainly you can point to the aspiration for a united arab land under pan-arabism rather than a nation state. Tell me why Egypt and Syria were considered the "united arab republic" until 1961, why was that area considered "southern syria" all throughout the ottoman period and up until the 1920s.

@@oaklandpubliceducation genuinely doesn't make any sense why are you superimposing a class struggle where it doesn't belong. Literally the origins of zionism was based around being historically dispossessed from land ownership and subsequently wanting to become self sufficient by finally cultivating land. This is where kibbutzim originated from. Such a worthless video literally boiling down to zionism bad while abrogating anything that the arabs did to lead down this path.

There are so many inaccuracies. I'm only ten minutes in. I'll mention some now. You claim the persecution of Jews, Armenians, and Romani as being related to their positions as "predisposed twords mercantile activity". It's true that what some have termed "middle-man minorities" received violent attacks, but this makes little to no sense when talking about the broad Jewish community, Romani, and Armenians. The Armenians were massacred because they were seen as a 5th column, basically the ottomans blamed them for their failures because they assumed the Armenians were sympathetic to other Christians in Europe. The Romani were targeted because they were poor, brown, had a history under brutal slavery, and as such were seen as sub-human. You claim that Jews willingly emigrating away from Jerusalem/Israel was the main cause of exile. However, YOUR OWN SOURCES place the origin of Jewish dispersal at the Babylonian expulsions. This is also an incredibly weird logic. You say that, because the majority of Jews existed outside of Jerusalem, therefore Jews do not have a good claim on that land at the time. This makes no sense, the land was still controlled and populated mainly by Jews. Jews didn't voluntarily give up control of Jerusalem. Jews have continually returned to Jerusalem whenever possible. They were expelled or killed time and time again, the difference is this time they actually managed to stay. Additionally, the initial bulk of zionists, the Ashkenazim, were all forcibly expelled. Ashkenazim refers to people of Ashkelon which was the Provence that the Roman soldiers took their Jewish slaves to. The majority of Ashkenazim originate from a small group of about 500 people. You also keep referring to Zionism as a capitalist ideology. However the predominant Zionist ideology was Labor Zionism which was explicitly anti-capitalist. That's why Israel was socialist for the first couple decades of it's existence. Socialists see jews and evil capitalists, and capitalists see jews as evil socialists. Your viewpoint is clear. I also find it funny that you say you only mention antisemitism because "the opposition" makes such a big stink about it. Jew hate was fundamental to the Arab and European worlds, and a major motivator behind your obsession with a tiny group of people.

@apzzpa - If there were any people calling themselves Canaanites in the past thousand years then yes. - Not clear on what you're point is about nations etc. - Does not matter because they started the war and they lost. - you trying to excuse and justify the actions to match your narrative. When an Israeli leader calls for peace you say he didn't mean that and it was fake. however when a leader calls for war, you say Ha! it proves they want to kill everyone. Just look at the facts. When Arab's were offered the Partition plan they said no! that is a fact. That was a chance for peace that they refused and paid for. Israel offered peace deals - FACT. Palestinians refused all peace deals - FACT. Palestinians never offered any peace deal - FACT. Deal with it, accept it and move forward. - There is no Palestinian artifacts! if any there are Ottoman or Arab artifacts. - There was no Americans before European settlers. The settlers became Americans, and YES they had leader called the founding fathers that established states based on western civilization values. - Arabs do live peacefully in Israel. Harassments, if any, are based on the events occurring. There are Arabs living all over Israel with full freedom of movement and respect just like any other Israeli citizens. in fact if you check Israeli universities, hospitals and especially pharmacies they full of Aram Muslim students and Dr.'s. - Gaza was under Hamas until today, before that it belonged to and governed by the Palestinian authority, before that it belonged to and governed by Israel and before that it belonged to ang governed by Egypt. and before that it belonged to and governed by Great Britain, and before that it belonged to and governed by the Ottoman empire. These are facts you need to deal with. - Israel and Egypt have a working peace deal - Fact. Don't try to twist it to fit your narrative. - The demonstration was not as peaceful as you think, there were shots fired towards the Israeli soldiers and there were violent protestors who threw rocks and burned tires. This is one of the incidents that you need to ask yourself why did they do that for? what were they trying to achieve? did they really expect to walk all they to the fence and cross it?? or was there a hidden agenda by Hamas?? - Jordan is more than half Palestinian. if anything Palestinians should create a state in Jordan. - Jews were massacred as part of the 48 war and were forced to flee their homes. Search the "Farhud" massacre of Iraq. - Fact is Hamas was in control of Gaza since 2006 and the decision they made brought us to where we are today. Think about it, Hamas had a meeting deciding on the Oct. 7th operation. Someone suggested it, someone brought up the possible Israeli response and the Palestinian civilian cost and they decide it is acceptable and moved forward. Even the current amount of civilian casualties seems to be acceptable by Hamas for them to still keep the hostages and not surrender. - czcams.com/video/Fhl9JFiw6sU/video.html&ab_channel=IndiaToday - It is not my responsibility to separate Palestinians from Hamas. It is Palestinians that see Hamas as their "freedom fighter" and still support them. Palestinians have a leadership problem. They believe the leaders that offer them everything. They offer the return to 1948 lands, the death of all Jews the march to Jerusalem. Palestinian buy it and even when it brings them death they still choose the same leaders. Until they have a leader that is willing to accept peace (even at the cost of his life - see Saadat, Rabin) they will continue to suffer and die.

Interesting... You forgot to mention the 400 years of ethnic cleansing of Jews from their homeland by the Muslim rule, the ottoman and the Egyptian. ethnic cleansing that resulted in judenrein Jewish cities like Hebron, Beit-Lechem, Beit-El (Rammallah) Shchem and Hebron. You also forgot to mention the so called Palestinians part at WW2, when they fought along the Nazi under the leadership of the SS general Amin El-Husseini, later elected president of the invented nationality. There is no Palestinian people, there are Arabs who are used as tool by radical Islam against the only Jewish state. As the PLO leader Zuheir Mohsen stated in 1977- "The Palestinian people does not exist … there is no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese . [...] Just for political reasons we carefully underwrite our Palestinian identity. Because it is of national interest for the Arabs to advocate the existence of Palestinians to balance Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons[...] Once we have acquired all our rights in all of Palestine, we must not delay for a moment the reunification of Jordan and Palestine" . Embarrassing.

He wrote a book called the general son. He is now anti-Zionist. Google Hajo Meyer, an Auschwitz survivor who compares the Zionists to Nazis. Listen to Norman Finkelstein. f you still don't think Israel is evil, that's because you are, too. Thanks to social media and spread of information, with a couple of clicks and with courage and human decency, the truth shines for every seeker to recognize. Plan Dalet is a good way to start your search. It details the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian villages and towns from their inhabitants. Search Dier Yassin, Tantura, Ramla, Lydda, Safsaf, Sa’sa, Kfar Qassim and hundreds of other massacres committed by Zionist Hagana, Irgun and Stern gangs in 1947-1948 under the eyes of the British authorities. Plan Dalet, the blueprint of the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian villages and towns started in December 1947 and was FINALIZED by the High Command of the Zionist leadership on March 10, 1947. Not a SINGLE Arab army soldier had entered the Palestine/Israel before the Zionists declared the birth of their state on May 15, 1948. By then, more than 300000 defenseless civilians had already been massacred, expelled, raped, and mutilated and more than 300 villages and towns emptied, destroyed, torched, and imploded with dynamite under the watchful eyes of and with the support of the British soldiers and police, who left the country on the fateful day. The Zionists even ran out of dynamite because of the extent of their barbarity. By the end of that year, 20000 civilians had been killed and 750000-900000 defenseless civilians, 85% of the population who had lived in the land that became Israel, had been rendered refugees. 530 villages were destroyed and depopulated. wow unbelievable levels of BS. - Why would Arabs call the area Palestine where they don't have the letter P in their language? - If all Arabs where the "Natives" to the land then why are most Palestinian last names are Hourani (from Houran in southern Syria), Tzurani (from Tyre in southern Lebanon), Zrakawi (from Mazraka in Jordan), Masri (the Egyptian), Hijazi (from the Hijaz province of the Arabian peninsula), Mughrabi (from the Maghreb). - Jews volunteered to leave Israel and live as a persecuted people in other countries. - Jews have the phrase "Next year in Jerusalem" in Talmudic literature hundreds of years ago - Anywhere you dig in Israel you find relic in the same language that is spoken today - Hebrew. - Jews have cultural, archeological, biblical and historic connection to the land. They are not colonizers. - Jewish land purchase and development is what attracted migration of more Arab people from the neighboring countries to come and work in Israel. Too much crap to even dispute in one sitting. Bottom line - There was no nation/state called Palestine before 1948. Like it or not, good or bad, that is the fact. If there was then anytime from 48-67 they could have established their own state in Gaza and west bank. After the Jews established the state of Israel, the local Arabs were manipulated by the surrounding Arab states and used as a tool to take down the new state of Israel through wars. They lost and they gave up on the Palestinian Arabs leaving them to die and be "oppressed". If you lose a war there are consequences and you cannot cry about wars you start. again, like it or not, good or bad, this is where we are. Israel is not going to disappear, Palestinians are not getting the land "from the river to the sea". They were offered peace deals that they refused. until there is a cultural shift for them to move from a death culture where they rather see their children die as shaheeds for the land to wanting to raise their children in a peaceful thriving country - there will continue to die.

    • @apzzpa

-Arabs didn't call it Palestine. It comes from Philistine from the Philistine invaders. -Second point about names is complete nonsense. There are people in the UK who have names that date back to the Anglo Saxons or even of Irish descent yet whose family has lived there generations. Most of the early Zionists were from Eastern Europe or Yemini. Now it's South Africa or USA. In fact anyone who becomes Jewish may become citizen yet a Palestinian refugee living in Jordan driven out in 1947-1948 can not return to their home. So the fact that they have names from surrounding areas of Palestine shows they are native whilst the earlyt Zionists from Eastern Europe or Yemen being foreign. -Sources for Jews volunteering to leave? Ben Gurion famously said, "We must expel the Arabs and take their places" which they later went onto to during 1947-48 -We all know Jews in that region 2,000 years or so ago however this does not justify the creation of a ethno-state created by foreigners on a land where people for generations and generations have been living -You'll also find Arabic, Roman, Byzantium, Persian etc of all the people that lived in that land -'If you wish to colonise a land in which people are already living ,you must provide a garrison Zionism is a colonising adventure' - Ze'ev Jabotinsky, Head of Irgun, born in Ukraine "We must expel the Arabs and take their places" - Ben Gurion, Founding father of Zionism, born in Poland "If I were an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: We have taken their country" - Ben Gurion, First Prime Minister of Israel, born in Poland From the horses mouth "There was no nation/state called Palestine before 1948" - Firstly, the land has been known as Palestine for hundreds of years at this point and is even designated as the Mandate of Palestine by the British. Regardless though this is like saying the Native Americans had no official state as it was not codified or accepted by the UN. It suggests that it is up for grabs and the native people living there are not allowed a say or a democrat vote. It's imperialistic thinking at it's core. "If you lose a war there are consequences and you cannot cry about wars you start." - You're making the mistake that the Zionists started the war. They worked with the British who trained their militias such as the Hagnah and the Irgun who would attack Arabs and later the British, finally leading to huge expulsion 1947-1948. There are ex-soldiers who describe these massacres in the film Tantura. It always been Zionists plan from the beginner to take over the Sinai and Jordan into what is called Greater Israel. It's not as though Israel garnered it's statehood peacefully. The Zionists knew they had to expel the Arabs somehow famously known as The Arab Question. It's the morality falls of them. Israel will not disappear know but Palestinians will receive the freedom to live in their land peacefully, to have all illegal settlements removed the West Bank and for all those made refugees during 1947-48 to paid in reparations and return to their home invoking the UN Resolution 194 which Israel has ignored and failed to address. You're final remarks are disgusting and abhorrent. They wish nothing more to live and be free to live their lives dignity which are they not due the Israel's constant oppression. Honestly surprises me why people are so shocked at the retaliation Israel gets when it is the one who treated the native people like animals.

@@apzzpa palestinians have rejected all opportunities to create their own state, thinking that at some point they would somehow win a war and expel the jews. it never happened... and now hamas tried again. there are plenty of quotes to support almost anything you want, what matters is context. there's that quote of a PLO leader, Zahir Muhsein, this conflict is based his claim that “The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the State of Israel… Palestinian identity would be emphasized for political reasons.” so what? the fact is other countries nearby were also "created", thus is the history of this planet. arabs / palestinians rejected it. israel got used to it, started to lean more right wing overtime... and now we have this mess.

They call it Falastin - the letter is like "F", and as mentioned in the talk "the name Palestine OR ITS COGNATES was used..." - just listen more carefully. If you want sources for all the claims made, see here: tinyurl.com/palestine2024doc Regarding immigration of Arab peoples intro Palestine that you mention, this too is addressed in the talk, with Al-Qassam even mentioned as a notable example (he was born in Syria. Also Arafat was born in Cairo, etc.). This is a Zionist talking point that is answered in this talk, and in more detail in the notes of the linked document above.

This piece is so full of Palestinian narratives, and engages in a one-sided view of history (poor academic scholarship, clearly a propaganda piece). Ottoman and British census shows the area to be underpopulated (400,000 at beginning of 20th Century) before widescale Arab AND Jewish migration during the British mandate (according to this guy Arab migration was legitimate, Jewish was not). The majority of Jews in Israel trace their lineage to Jewish communities that had long existed in the area, or the the 1 million Jews that were persecuted/forcibly expelled from surrounding Arab nations. In 1977, PLO leader Zuheir Mohsen said "The Palestinian people does not exist ... there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese. We are all part of one people, the Arab nation [...] Just for political reasons we carefully underwrite our Palestinian identity. Because it is of national interest for the Arabs to advocate the existence of Palestinians to balance Zionism. The existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons". They came up with the "Palestinian" identity in order to justify why Arabs receiving some 99.3% (Peel Commission) or 98.1% (UN Partition) of the lands of the British and French mandates was not enough, and that Jews shouldn't get anything despite being in the majority in the lands designated in both plans. This has always been about Arab/Islamo-fascism and a refusal to share any lands previously conquered by violent Islamic imperialism.

The ideologists cherry pick whatever "facts" the historians tell which fits their ideology (like the Obviously anti-imperialist-capitalist Marxist teacher in the video do) and neglect all other "Historical facts" that doesn't fit it. This teacher isn't different than today's Zionists, all just cherry pick whatever fit whatever idea they want to push. And you are not different as well, you cherry pick the teaches that tell you want you want to hear. There's only one fact I can tell for sure, neither me, you, or this teacher , actually lived through the history of this region, in this region and speak from personal experience. What each of one think about what actually happened in Palestine is based on a narrow prism of cherry picked citations, thing some people said in the past. That's the only actually verifiable fact. This teacher is a propagandist, I could sense his Marxist BS throughout his entire video.

It also has the side benefit of confusing people's ability to think cleary about complex civil social order problems or reach agreement on what the real world solutions to these problems would be. This is one reason why I have always thought that the multi cultural identity politics was a pseudo left and not an authentic left that challenges the intrinsic oppression, injustice and inequality built into capitalism as an organized system and all consuming all enveloping totalizing cultural construction.
