    Hi Michael, It would be great to see how you do summer grafting if you do. Any thought on when you do this in relationship to bud break. I know some like their root stock to be a little ahead (greenhouse) compared to the scion. There are lots of videos on grafting but not enough about how to make them survive. Best, Mats H

      If that is about as high as it gets, then you should be fine. Just place it in an area that stays shady in the afternoon during peak temperatures. How are the winters? What zone is it?

      Now, I am not very familiar with your climate, but they should be mostly ok through the winter. The only time you will really need to protect them is when the weather dips into the low twenties.

    The skin of the rootstock didn't not overlap the scion as it was folded over to the right as you were finalizing the wrapping of the rubber band.

    Feb is much better time for grafting ? i did it in the middle of this summer .... 16 subjects ... no succession from any of them ... all of them down .... i did cover them after grafting and put my giant black maple in the shade

    I have a red bark Japanese maple. Cant remember the name off hand. The leaves are green all summer then turn yellow and red in the fall it's a Acer something.

    Really enjoyed this video Michael. I'm also a customer of yours & hope to be visiting the nursery again soon. It's good to get info on maples from a reliable source in my region. We live in NW Ga. but the conditions maples do well in will be pretty much the same as in your location. If someone in the PNW portion of the country says a certain cultivar does well in full sun that doesn't necessarily work for us here. Keep the content coming. Thanks, Erin S.
