Have you heard the first version of "That'll be the Day"? A Producer called it "The worst music I ever heard!" Buddy Holly worked out the song then rerecorded it at another studio. The result was pure Rock and Roll. #buddyholly #thatllbetheday #nashville #rockandroll

Interesting. I always thought haley played lead on rock around the clock 😮
I saw the Comets on stage at the '50 winters later' show at the Surf ballroom in Clearlake, Iowa in 2009. They were fantastic!
So did Franny Beecher take over lead after Danny passed. Google search says he was lead from 1954 to 1962. Just curious. Thanks in advance.
I assume Franny took over, I’ll have to ask some hardcore Rock historians I know. That’s a good question.
@@westcoastramble Franny passed away, at 92....I believe. And was still able to handle the fast riff on Rock Around the Clock at that age.? One word, Incredible.
Thank you for sharing this. I also thought it was Bill who 'guitared' that part. Unfortunate he passed into the other realm but hay, he's still playing the guuitar rockin' every one!
Bill Haley and the Comets was my big fav. Had all their 45's.
Whites still trying to pretend that they invented Rock 'n' Roll.
When "Rock & Roll"came to Australia in 1956,-with Bill Haley-it was a Sensation !!--it was never off the Radio,--we never heard of any other Artists-Black or white,--it turned into an ''Avalanche"of music-was "Covered"by local groups-who did great out of this !!--I had a friend in the navy,-who brought back a pile of records from the U.S-among them "Chess"records "Chuck-berry"-johnny-b-goode"-it blew me away-!!-eventually the "Record companies"could not get away with it anymore,-and U.S.artists reigned-Supreme !!--"Rock around the clock"-never gets old !!
Danny Cedrone was never a member of the Comets.
I suppose you’re right, but if he had lived, I imagine he would have toured with them. He did play with the Saddlemen Bill Haley’s previous band
You do things to satisfy yourself not for notoriety
I was 12 years old when this was released and I still have the 45 rpm I bought at Woolworth for 50 cents. I have some great old recordings.
You were right there, I listened to it on my moms 45 in 1971
What a tragic story. Danny obviously had so much to offer the world of music that we'll never know. But at least he is now recognized for this memorable piece.
Shame Danny never got to play twenty flight rock........the rug got pulled from under him 🙄
Its a toughie. But worth ig. Hats off to Danny. Ive taught this to many an acne riddled youth. Cheers Dan!!
Trying to f****** take a rock and roll and pin it down to a certain f****** guitar solo or a certain sound is like f****** you know taking religion and saying this is how Christianity start f*** off this is stupid don't even listen
I'd hate to meet you when you're angry. I'm guessing music, religion politics, sport, work etc gets you triggered ?,we should all tread carefully 🙏
I've always liked (understatement) the solo in The Virtues' 'Guitar Boogie Shuffle'. Frank and his So. Philly boys look like 3 uncles who did receptions. Who'd know? ..
I’ll check it out
Nice video. Great work!
The best thing any of us can do is say thank you to Danny Cedrone. Thank You, Danny! If it wasn’t for you, there wouldn’t be any Rock and Roll.
I ❤that a fellow Italian 🇮🇹American 🇺🇸was the originator of rock and roll guitar for the world! Brava Danny Cedrone! You ROCKED our world! For REAL! Mary Zavarella Walker 🙋🏻♀️🇮🇹🇺🇸
👍
Thank you for this well deserved tribute. Danny's daughter Janet and son in law King Arthur are well known DJs in the Doo Wop market today. I would add that Danny in his teens days was also a stringband musician in the Philadelphia annual Mummers Day Parade held every January 1st. In Philly we like to say he is the only Mummer in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - so far.
Cool info, thx!
Why don't you shut your mouth and let the music speak for itself and then you can be the Star at the end
The music cannot speak for itself, that's why they sometimes add lyrics . Don't be so upright Daddy O
Too long and drawn outl
Don't be such a square, Daddy O
WOW... THANK YOU FOR THAT WONDERFUL PIECE OF MUSIC HISTORY... THANK YOU DANNY....
Thanks for this video. I was a kid when Rock Around The Clock got most kids into R&R. That solo made the song.
Man, that was a great story. Tragic, but really interesting. Thanks.
Probably had been listening to Rosetta Tharpe since the 1930's....
I think he was more of a Django guy from what I read.
You talk too much, just play the music.
If I played any more of the music YT would block it
Then what? How do you think this informative video will unfold? Ahh I see the lead guitar break will magically uncover the truth of who actually played on the recording and how it became one of the most memorable breakthrough rock and roll songs of all time, must remember that next time when someone documents music history, just play the tune dammit!
What a truly fascinating piece of music history! So, the original rifts were from 1952 and incorporated into the 1954 final recording...
Rock'n'Roll 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🤘🤘
Junior Barnard = Total PIONEER.
Agreed, one of my favorites!
That's why you never hear that incredible solo on any tv footage of Bill Haley and the Comets performing Rock Around the Clock, because Danny Cedrone died 10 days after recording that blistering solo, and if he had lived to see the success of the song on Blackboard Jungle, Bill Haley may have hired him as a permanent member of the Comets, and we could've seen Rock Around the Clock performed the way it was actually recorded on those old TV shows.....
I remember my music teacher playing us this song among a bunch of other old songs when I was in 3rd grade, so around the year 2000 I'd guess, and to this day I'm thankful for her decision to play us the old classics instead of some boring contemporary songs haha
Thanks for this. I've always thought this is one of the best solos ever. Thanks Danny! Your light still shines.
👍❤️ awesome!
...like Django Rheinhart never existed?
????
Don't be such a Herbert! Django sends you a one finger salute 😊
Iconic does not begin to describe this.
Never knew that, pretty cool
That beginning Rrift was awsome. Too bad the man never got to see it happen.
Danny's lead has always been one of my favorites! It was one of the first outrageous leads I ever heard, and will always stand out amongst the rest!
Don't forget Marty McFly BTTF
Marty McFly showed Marvin Berry the song “Johnny be Good” at the “ Fish under the sea” dance. Marvin Berry shared the song with Chuck Berry who made it a hit. That’s common knowledge.
Ccccrrrraaaapp😂
Those pickups look fairly high. Brian Setzer tells of putting matchbooks in to raise the pickup height, it doesn't seem necessary with the pickups shown near the end.
I didn’t know that about Setzers guitar.
@@westcoastramble He talked about raising the pickups at age 17 in a recent interview because the guitar was too quiet for rock and roll. Different pick-ups perhaps, I'll have another look and post the link here, it might be of interest. Here it is, only a 1 minute clip. The pickups look like those in your vid, so maybe it's just him. czcams.com/users/shortsnKVGarSIyz8?si=TrvTNLPmuMlnqHDB
Thanks. Great. Loved. Rock. Around. The. Clock. Thought it was brought out by. Chubby. Only. Good to hear of this earlier.man.
I was seven. I thought it was super.
❤️❤️❤️
As a 3 year old in London kid in 1952, that original guitar solo, heard on the BBC radio was what set of me on a life of loving “electric music’, sneered at by my parents’ generation. Two years later, I was smitten though Bill Haley always seems older than all the adults I knew, though to be fair, to a 5 year old kid, anybody over 12 seemed impossibly adult.
It is amazing to listen to Hank Williams song Move it on Over from 1947 next to Rock Around the Clock. Sounds awfully similar. Peace!
I did not know this thanks very much
Reminds me of Arthur Smith's Guitar Boogie from 1945/46.
I don’t know that song, I’ll give it a listen. Thx!
All the acts are fantastic But EDDIE COCHRAN was BRILLIANT.🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
