Cycling Prince Edward County EP 8: Millennium Trail: The Taste Trail
Cycling in Prince Edward County (PEC) is one of Ontario’s best destinations for both road and gravel cycling and bike touring. I have been cycling the county roads for five years and I enjoy the diversity of roads, scenic views, back country roads and trails. In this episode I travel the Millennium Rail Trail through the quaint villages of Wellington and Bloomfield to show how the trail makes for one great day on the bike where you can ride, explore and find great wineries, breweries, food and shopping.

      Hey Owen. We parked at the brewery which is about 7km each way to the ferry. You can park there, they don't monitor it but unless you plan to visit there you could just park in Bath, Finkle Shores Park is nice. I really enjoyed this ride.

    I took that bike trail a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, as you can see @0:30, they put the trail on the wrong side of the highway for cyclists. As you go a little further you see why. Highway 2 blocks the view of much of the Thousand Islands because the bike trail is sunk a few feet lower than the highway, so your view is mostly blocked as you cycle along. What could they have been thinking?

    Hello Steve! I watched your video. Congratulations on successfully transmitting high-quality audio from the Lark M2 to the DJI Osmo Action 4 camera. I also have a Lark M2 mic and recently bought an Action 4 camera. I couldn’t directly connect the receiver with the C-type phone connection to my Action 4 camera. How did you manage this? I could only connect the camera receiver using a C-type to C-type cable. I can't directly connect the receiver we use for the phone. It doesn’t fit properly into the camera's slot. Did you use a cable or something else in between to make it work? Thank you for your help.

      Hi there. I use the USB-c package and if you don't use the protective case that came with the camera it will fit although I have now lost two of them when manipulating during filming so if you get it to work be careful but when it does looks and sounds great even when cycling on windy conditions. Here is the link to the one I bought Hollyland Lark M2 Wireless... www.amazon.ca/dp/B0CP7P4RRQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

    • @whitecollarpeasants
      @whitecollarpeasants Před měsícem

      @@Pedals_and_Pathways Hi, Thank you for the information you shared. It was very helpful to know that the protective case is important when using the USB-C package. It's really unfortunate that you lost it twice during filming. I already own the Hollyland Lark M2. I was also worried about the USB-C receiver not being secure and stable on the camera. I'm a motorcycle rider, and I thought the wind pressure at high speeds might cause it to fall off, which is exactly what happened to you. This was the issue I was concerned about. How did you solve this problem?

    • @Pedals_and_Pathways
      @Pedals_and_Pathways Před měsícem

      First time I removed it to set camera on a bench for a shot and left it there 😩. The second time was just yesterday so I need to be more careful and I may look at Jerry rigging something. A band or tape. I know the DJI system is more secure but the Lark works well and I can't stomach the price of the DJI. I looked into an aftermarket case with a boot for the transmitter but the DJI has no audio plug in so they are really forcing you into buying their own mic unlike Insta 360.

    Nice summary. I am considering purchasing the Varia RTL515 unit. I use MapMyRide app to track my route and provide stats. I understand the app will not function in the background so this means I cannot use MapMyRide with the Varia app open? However I also wear a Garmin watch. Would I be able to sync the watch to the Varia unit independently of the app so I receive vibration notices a vehicle is approaching or must I have the Varia app open on my phone for the watch to vibrate. With the watch notice, I would just check my mirror to confirm. No real need to have the Varia app open if I don't need to.

    Even though I have quibbles with the way the trails get lost in Brantford, I do recommend doing the Paris to Hamilton stretch. Ironically, the best part is the TH&B Trail into Ham. Getting through Brantford: The first time I did it was probably the easiest and best (I've done it over twenty times over a ten year span) and into Brantford from a number of directions, twice from Port Dover, an incredible trail, and the most intuitive way to do is is on the south side of the Grand. Have a map or a navigation system. The downside to ending up or starting from Port Dover is the lack of transit options, whereas Brantford, Cambridge and especially Hamilton have GO bus (Ham also trains) options so that you don't have to retrace your route. Cambridge to Paris is as good as it gets in Southern Ontario for trails, I thought I was in heaven first time doing it.

    We loved this trail ! and we liked how many places you can pull over to grab a quick bite to eat - or drink a glass of wine if you are so inclined!

    Thanks Steve for posting this - we've done Sydenham to K&P lots - but I think we will head east and do an overnight at opinicon and make it a fun weekend!! PS. you can speak pretty well at that speed!
