Yup - cassette was pretty much how we listened to rap. Though those original 12 inches we had since they were big in the NY area. No albums, just singles. Too bad about The Chronic.
Spottieottiedopalicious! I don’t have enough hip-hop on vinyl to do a response to this tag. I really enjoyed this, Lovell. ✌🏻
Thank you Jon it’s still a lot hip hop records I wish I own . I definitely have a decent amount of cds I’m still slowly adding you definitely should do a tag I know you have some killer hip hop records .
Dope tag L. That Gang Starr is crazy! I'm originally from Milwaukee and when I would go over to Chicago to dig, I would listen to that rap radio station. The first time I heard Fugees "Killing Me Softly" was when it played on that station. I miss digging in Chi. Big ups to George's Music room, Just Dance,Reckless, Second Hand Tunes, & the old Grammaphone. You went hard on the O.C. That Roy Ayres original is crazy. I've only seen that one in the wild once ever, about 15 years ago. Couldn't afford it. It was a promo for $100. Thanks for inspiring me to do a 2024 rap tag.
Darrell D thanks brother man you video was so inspiring your collection is so deep I even dug your video on KRS One . Man you remembered all the shops in the Chi a lot of those shops I build my record collection your hometown Milwaukee is city I love I visit frequently over the years musical memories in Kilbourn and Acme Records is a favorite of mine . That Roy Ayers I found at Dusty Groove some years ago before their prices got crazy . I still stoked to have found that Gang Starr never saw Gang Starr live but I saw Guru Open for House of Pain in ‘97 at the Metro his freestyle was so dope I will always remember that . Take care brother Darrell D.
@@MrLovell1971 Musical memories is a great shop. You can barely afford anything in there but they definitely got gems. Never heard of Acme records. Thanks for checking out the Krs vid. Peace.
Hi Lovell. Great to see you. Admittedly I have no rap but 👍 for your response 😊.
Thank you Greg I do happy you enjoyed it brother
I am from down south and the narrative around the Aquemini 5 mics around here was "THE GAME IS OURS NOW!!!!" lol.
I agree @dubjeezee thanks for watching.
Great video!!! Thanks for the shout out!! No wonder I can’t find a copy of that Face debut 😂 you got 2!!!! I’ve got a Scarface story as well, was supposed to have been done a video about it. That Kast trifecta is everything!! I remember when Aquemini came out, it was everywhere!! Being from the South, it was huge. Our school band would play OutKast and get the whole school crunk!!! 😂Again great vid, keep it up 👍🏽
Junes thanks brother man I’m glad you enjoyed it lol I’ve been after that Face all these years and it came in twos . I really dug OutKast when they came out the Source Awards didn’t show love but they got their due later they was big as hell. I appreciate you brother have a great week.
Autographed Gang Starr! Was that 106 Jams?
Thanks Don I used to listen that station all day
Old school Dusty Groove - I remember that spot. I lived around the corner on Division St. In '97.
That spot was so cool and chill like a boutique
Great video, brother Lovell!! MC Lyte's Lyte As A Rock; classic! The Stolen Moments album looks very cool; I need to check it out.... Wow, that's a very nice gift from your nephew... All great stuff... when Rap / Hip-Hop music was something to be proud of 😊
Eve thanks for watching how have you been i think you will dig that Stolen Moments album all the great jazz meets hip hop artists on there. My nephew truly looked out for me big time I appreciate you stopping by have a wonderful week.
Awesome video
Thank you for stopping by JC I appreciate you my vinyl brother.
Amazing episode. Love the B&W Miles Davis portraits in the background
Thank you Sean for watching .
coco brothers, what in the hell?????
Thank you fizzlebomber that name sounds crazy right I wish they could of kept their original name
@@MrLovell1971 hhahhaa no. I meant like what in the world were you saying? Raekwon on the track.
UTFO!! Bangin' for sure. Great tag LA! Gonna jump on this one for sure! Some great picks here. Rick Da' Rula! lol.
Thanks Brandon Can't wait what you pull .
Your nephew must love you. Enjoyed this. Thanks for the shout out.
Thank you Richie he definitely does I really dug your Rap Tag 🍻
Peace Lovell... solid tag. Congrats on the Redman and Face OGs... know you were looking for those. ("Skew it on the barb" was with Raekwon... fire track) ATLiens was the 5-mic album imo. Stay solid.
Thanks Pat my vinyl brother man so happy to finally at those 2 Scarface debuts. That Redman is fire 🔥 his flow is dope as hell. Stay solid brother
Cool video man, I need a copy of PE fear of a black planet. I had it on cassette and CD back in the day , my vinyl collection was stolen back in 96 lost most all my rap . Still working slowly to rebuild . There is just so much to replace and so many I’ve forgotten about. Respect
Thank you thumpfinger yes I still have a ton of cassettes I’ve been trying to find originals on wax it’s a tough to find
Love the Bonzos - very cool. Original Pixies at that price, just insane. Lovely six-eye of Miles there. Loved seeing all of those Riverside and Prestige pickups!
Glad you enjoyed it Kris man those Pixies still sound excellent 30 years later. I was so stoked to have found those Prestige’s the condition was beautiful they don’t press them like that anymore thank for commenting Kris I really appreciate you brother take care .
Dude! Congrats on these rad and varied pickups. You got some awesome jazz. I am gonna check out Killing Joke--you bring a lot of excitement behind all your finds. Love it.
Alexander thank you I really appreciate your feedback love you pickups also and your love for jazz . Those Killing Joke are definitely worth checking out awesome band I got in to them really late . Those rare Prestige’s and Riverside was a killer addition I still can’t believe they are in my collection have a wonderful weekend Alexander.
Well done, Lovell. Pixies, Killing Joke, Siouxsie, PiL and that Grant Green! Very nice.
Thank you Bret those Killing Jokes was a huge addition along with the Pixies and Siouxsie and the Banshees those vintage pressing sounds so good have a great weekend Bret.
It's been a while since you've done a video of course but when you do, it is always a heavy pile. Hard to pick just one thing to comment on even. Yeah I would love to own the Roy Clark, original preferably but you don't see that Scorpio either. Big time heat Sea Changes has long been one for me to locate but again, never see it. Same with Midnight Vultures!
Thanks Dom so glad to be back finally after the home repairs I still had some more hip hop album I didn’t show it would of been an hour long and many people don’t like hip hop . Thanks again for the Cluster and Bonzo band I want that Midnight Vultures I only saw it once in a shop for $300 .
Great video man. Killer score on that South Side Soul. Congrats. Awesome pick up on the Benny Golson Riverside. I love that one and all of Golson's.
Thibs2442 man I was on the look out for years for that Benny Golson when it appeared withe the condition was good i jumped on it . Thanks for stopping by I really dig your feedback.
Good to see you back on YT 👍 And with a lot of great finds - congrats. I didn't know there was a Mono version of Bookends (my favorite S&G album) - How does the sound compare to stereo we all have? Stay safe - Claus
Thanks Claus I’m so glad to be back again . That S&G mono sounds so good I compared it to my stereo copy it blow it away it like an extended wall of sound to their voices. Thank you Claus for commenting and watching have a great week .
First, I was thrilled to see Lovell had finally posted a new video. Then I saw all the great finds he had and realized that I hated him. Good video. Welcome back.
Thanks Joe man life has been so crazy I’ve been lucky on finding original press and I also went down the rabbit hole of some of the audiophile releases I didn’t show the video would of been an hour . Love hearing from you have an awesome week.
I still need those two Sonnys and that Grant Green -Grantstand, i love that lineup. That Soul trombone is essential, and what a deal you got on that John Wright!
Drew you definitely will come across a copy of the Grant green I love to find the Grant Green Street of dreams you have in your collection.
@@MrLovell1971 I hope so. Yeah, that's a clean 70 turquoise Street of dreams I got. What's strange about my copy is that it has a unique coating on the vinyl that I've never seen before.
The 2eye stereo pressing of Bookends might be the best sounding album in my collection, its shocks me everytime i listen to it.
The stereo is a killer definitely if you run across the mono of Bookends definitely grab it the soundstage is on another level definitely one to seek out . Thanks for watching.
Nice score on that Mono Bookends, also like the Grant Green and Buckingham Nicks nice bunch of titles you found!
Thank you Harry that Mono Bookends is so clean and that Buckingham Nicks was one I never see clean in the wild.
Wow, I'm buried under those awesome pick ups! I got Elemental as well, and it is indeed a very well engineered album. Interesting choice for that 50th Anniversary of BOTR cover. Looks so much like the cover of "The Best of Three Dog Night"! LOL
Yes redcomusic that Elemental was mastered perfectly . I agree that BOTR does look like three dog night . I appreciate you watching and commenting have a great week .
First, I hope everything is settled with your place. You definitely brought the heat in this video! Bummed we couldn’t connect last time I was up there, but I should be back in August. 😀 I think Acoustc Sounds is doing STP’s “Purple” in August, not “Tiny Music” (unless you know something I don’t; but after how well “Core” turned out, I hope they do the full discography like that). And Candido!?!? My guy! 👏🏻👏🏻
Chance thanks my dude I can’t wait for Purple I did get core. Hope we meet up in the future I did your taste in music have a great week Chance and thanks for stopping by.
Talk about coming back strong Lovell. Loved seeing those Prestige heavies.
Dave thanks brother man so stoked on the condition I couldn’t imagine them on my shelves they don’t press them like that anymore the warmth is amazing.
Oh man that Candido! That has the full length version of Jingo made famous by Santana and Olatunji. Slammin'! That's on the NuYorican Soul 2 comp on Soul Jazz. Hot to death!
Don that Candido shock me how clean it was I’ve never seen thatin the wild .
Big score on that John Wright find! That is a super rare Prestige grail for sure. Also cool that is is a Chicago artist rather than East Coast. My friend found that and had it on Discogs for $200.
Thank you Don when that John Wright arrived I thought it was going to be trashed I was very surprised how clean it was. I appreciate you complimenting brother take care .
Congrats brother! Hell of a year you had. All killer no filler! 🔥
Thank you Drew you’ve been on 🔥🔥too 🍻
Incredible stuff Lovell! I’d give anything to come across first pressings of the Pixies records. I have never seen first pressings of their records in any stores here. They just don’t pop up. Some incredible scores for the prices. That Cosmic Slop looked so clean! Joe Henderson Akio. Nice! Too much to comment on. 😂 You’ve been bizzee my friend! Good to see you, man. ✌🏻
Thanks Jon very busy I need to hide my wallet I want to upgrade my photo stage the record buying definitely ruined that notion. Thanks so much for watching Jon have a wonderful week .
My friend. Thank you for the Mirror Music shout-out. Means everything. So glad you've been enjoying the tunes! Beautiful John Wright - wow. So clean. That Grant Green is superb, as well. Surprised people don't really talk about that title too much. "Slow Dance" off of Traneing In is an excellent tune. I used the opening Paul Chambers bass intro as a sample once ;) The Dorham! So much heat on this video. Geto Boys, Bill Evans, Monk, Rollins, the MoFi Beck!... Big time scores. Finishing off the E. And don't think I didn't see those two Lanois-produced titles up on your shelf - that Classic BG cut of So and the Emmylou. Good music all around. Nice to see you!
Your so welcome Michael I really appreciate your artistry you a beautiful talent my friend . Slow Dance is so underrated Trane blowing session is always a treat. Man I was so fortunate to add some albums I really wanted for years have a great week Michael and thanks for stopping by.
Peace Lovell... great scores. Stay solid.
Thank you Pat🍻
Hi Lovell. It's been a fruitful 6 months indeed. Your excitement is palpable 😊. I wasn't familiar with the Pixies until I picked up a CD of Dolittle. I promptly pu the last 2 live sets at RSD. No regrets. Thanks for sharing some great OG albums. Greg
Thanks Greg this year has been crazy on how many records I been grabbing I really appreciate your feedback brother .

Hey buddy it's so good to see your face hear your voice some nice records from Brandon also tons of great stuff I need to look into a few of those titles.
Please do brother RocknRonni great hearing from you love your feedback and video you post have a great week thank you for watching
Lovell, nice, nice, very nice.I need to dig into Art Garfunkel's solo work, I really love Paul Simon's solo albums, ''Graceland'' might be his best. My favorite Tears For Fears is '' The Seeds Of Love'' featuring the vocals of Oleta Adams. Two great Rollins masterpieces, I wish he spent more time with Monk. I never knew that Elvin Jones recorded for the Riverside label. Public Image Ltd. is an amazing find , showcasing an amazing band. Drink some wine and enjoy your new treasures!
Thanks Michael Valentine it been a long time I love Graceland by Paul Simon I was so glad to have seen him on tour . The seeds of love is a classic . Those Rollins have him playing with outstanding fire in in veins have a wonderful week Michael.
Hi Lovell! So many great scores there. Especially that Cluster album...I'm drooling.
It's so good! Thank you Michael P Dawson I appreciate you stopping by
Hey, Lovell, classic tune with awesome sound. The cover version by Yes, is also a great listen.
Thanks for listening yes I love Yes version of America

The elusive mono, nice. Björk? Coffy 👍🏻
❤🙏
Hey Lovell. Happy memorial day my friend 🎉. Awesome 👍 song.
Thanks Greg perfect for this Holiday weekend ❤
🎶🙏🏻✨☮️✊🏻😎🎶
Thank you LiS
Always nice of Trish to send the goodies. Sinatra at the Sands - nice - I do believe I have a 5.1 version of that (must have been an SACD transfer). UK Swirl in Wisconsin - the location is maybe the most interesting thing - like how did it end up there!? Love seeing Desertshore back there on the wall - love that album. Lovely pressing of Barrett.
Yes that Vertigo was in a dirty basement record store I found killer records over 25 years that Barrett sounds outstanding Kris thanks for watching .
Isley Brothers have a cd box set!
George Michael’s, OLDER is lit!!!🔥
Im watchin' and payin' attention. ☮
I appreciate you Nathan
I don’t pull Coltrane. I pull something else though 😮😮😮😮😮😮🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
