lmaođŸ˜‚â€ïžthank you for this. I’m currently exploring D. Not in consulting though. My friends who work in consulting concur it’s not for everyone and it’s a real hustle and GRIND! However, for your team to expect you to not recalibrate emotionally and mentally during a company wide break is indicative of simply not being valued and you chose you and that could never be a wrong choice. Congrats.

    FUCK Deloitte ! My girlfriend was a consultant for Deloitte. Her superior would always come 10 minutes before the end of the shift with a mountain of work that would take at least 3 more hours to complete. She would insist that the work had to be finished for the next morning. At one time, my girlfriend realized that it was in fact no at all necessary for the next day and it was just bullying from the manager's part so she refused and went home. The next day she was called to human ressources where she got a warning. They never asked her side of the story or to explain herself, when she tried explaining the human ressources told her to shut up and just sign the paper saying that she received a warning for "behaviour not in line with company culture" or some BS like that. Needless to say, she didn't stay very long in that golden shithole.

    Sounds like my old job. Management pushed us so hard to work. If we didnt produce, they didnt get a bonus. We would get punished for taking days off and goings on paid vacation. Time that we earned. Even if you had a legitimate complaint. They would give u extra work. Working there was like being in a cult and soon you would be the one they sacrificed next. When i.left it felt like I finally left a abusive relationship.

    Currently working at Deloitte, and I am lucky enough to be remote. It really depends on the type of team you are apart of, and your manager. I definitely agree with the fights involving clients, but it definitely comes with the territory. Deloitte does pay well, and you really control your career to a certain degree. As for long hours, it all depends on the contract you are on. Also, yes there will be some fake people, but that’s at any job. People are scared of getting fired for being themselves so everyone puts on a front.

    my take based on working in consulting for 7 years. pros; you get great exposure to many different companies / sectors. you learn and develop lots of skills including analysis and dealing with clients. cons; its a bit of a pyramid scheme, where you are told that if you work to death, sacrifice personal life, in some instances (tell the small lies to win bids), and put up with some of the toxic environment with backstabbing colleagues, favouritism (its run by partners, and the partners are like little kings and queens, and if they like you you rise if not, no chance). you can feel like a sellable resource, when the resourcing teams try and sell you for jobs (they act almost like pimps i felt just selling me to jobs sometimes without even asking me). for some its a great life, and it suits their personality and temperament. but i got tired of being sold to different clients as the 'expert' on something i knew little about, just because i was on the bench. i also got tired of being under pressure to deliver to unexpected deadlines that the partner had promised, working with lots of juniors who were from disparate backgrounds, emotional states, training and personal goals, to deliver something that was of high quality. sometimes there was no respect from the juniors to those below partners, as they did not see you as important in their career growth. so if you were in the middle between grad and partner, you sometimes got no respect from those above, nor from those below. but again its is very team dependant. if you are in a good team it can really be great. but most people did not want to kill themselves to be partner, and were looking to leave and join a firm in industry as a 'head of' type role.

    What you are describing was a good position many would have liked to get. Most workplaces have toxicity none are perfect none . If you became a lawyer or doctor, etc, the hours and workplace are ALOT more stressful. Earning 6 figures and above is a privilege that most do not get.

    It's so interesting that during my research for this career I came across so many consultant CZcamsrs who hyped up the life, and then after a few months passed they'd post how they quit/left. Just goes to show in-depth research is important cause if I just watched the videos that showed they were happy then I would still believe I wanted this career.

    The big consultancies are insidious, poisoned places. They don’t care about the morality of the work they take on, they don’t care about being successful for the client, they certainly don’t care about the resources (people). They care about the money and they care about deepening their integration into organisations (fat, suckling pigs) and leveraging often corrupt business relationships to slice off more parts of the businesses they embed into. CONsultancy. The clue is in the name.

    So I have a question for you. I'm in my early forties and thought about applying to Deloitte so I came across your videos. After watching a few of them I am noticing a central theme. Happiness, fulfillment and whether or not you have achieved it. My question is, as a young Millennial, are you going after what will make you happy or what your peers and the media say will make you happy ? I can read your body language and it's not matching what your mouth is saying. I swear I don't mean that as an insult but it's more than obvious something is missing. I saw your video when you were taking advice from that girl about being thirty and the one about the four coffee ideas looking for approbation. Have you ever thought about having a baby ? Talk about having approval from someone in life, try someone you gave birth to. Drop instagram, Facebook and all that other fake nonsense about how great others have it start making your own memories with someone that will guaranteed love you back.I mentioned before I'm in my early forties and looking at Deloitte. It would be my first job in 15 years. That's because I had kids of my own and decided to be a stay at home father. I may have been broke that whole time but I still managed to feed my kids and keep a roof over their heads. Not to mention get them to school in the morning and take them to the park after. I figured I could always finish college and go back to work once they got older but I could never get the best years of their life back. It was tough but I made it work and It's been the ABSOLUTE GREATEST TIME OF MY LIFE. The billionaires workout, oatmeal lattes and and the quest for total enlightenment by Chopra are all superficial garbage. Meet a significant other if you haven't already and laugh. Laugh, have good sex, travel, argue and apologize so you can do it all over again. That's the real Ying and yang to happiness 🙂 I hate for this to sound preachy but I just wanted to let you in on what really made me happy. If I had one regret it would be that I didn't have kids sooner. We are only getting older and holding onto your youth is worth more than gold. Anyway, I hope you find your happiness whatever it may be. For me it was a little baby staring at me and holding onto my thumb.

    • @EuniceLo
      @EuniceLo Pƙed 2 lety

      Thanks for your comment and explaining your thoughts on happiness. Personally I think happiness as well and purpose is ultimately what we are all trying to seek but as we don’t know what that means for each one of us we try many things until we find what that special something is to us. Im happy for you that kids was your form of happiness which it is for many as well. I can’t say for myself if that will bring my happiness or not because I haven’t passed that stage. I do agree though that how you leave the people around you feeling at the end of the day is what brings true happiness whether it is your family, significant other, kids, friends, community, work. As a millennial that’s what I strive for. It may look different from one person to another and that’s totally fine because everyone has a different set of values. As you may notice I haven’t posted for a while and that is because I have tried a few other avenues for happiness and that has taken up more of my time. One of which is to find a significant other who I would love to enjoy life with. Modern day romance though has made it quite tough for us millennials with fickle relationships and fast swiping so it did take some time, but I can agree with you on that it does bring much happiness when you’ve finally found your person.
