My channel is dedicated to those things close to my heart: DIY and outdoor pursuits.
The DIY series will cover subjects, such as, plastering, carpentry, plumbing, tiling and basic electrics, etc. I am not an expert in these areas. However, by sharing my experiences (good and bad) I hope to inspire others to have a go and invest in a few basic tools which will save them lots of cash and minimize their reliance on so-called experts who offer meaningless guarantees and little if any redress for poor workmanship. My aim is to become more self-reliant and better able to support my family in these difficult and uncertain times.
My series on outdoor activities will cover my favourite hobbies including, bushcraft, camping, hiking and cycling amongst others. These activities enable me to enjoy nature and offer respite from the stresses and frustrations of living in a world marred by conflict, political deceit, consumerism, greed and the ever spiralling decline in moral values.

Wera Hex-Plus Set vs Traditional Allen Keys And Multi-tools. Why Spend More?
Me thinks that the hat didn't shrink, but that the wearer has gotten larger over the course of the last 4 years. The weight gets distributed everywhere. Stay healthy friend!
Dressed for the occasion lol but great video
Interesting. There's no getting away with it looking like deck boards though. Guy did a good job.
I’d love if you did a tour of Ely cathedral. I grew up there and haven’t been able to get back for well over a decade now. Would love to hear your thoughts on the place!
Hiya buddy. Me and my buddies used to go to Ely every now and then for a chinese sit down meal back in the day. Other than that I have no other connection with the city I'm afraid. Appreciate you dropping by. Des
Would you recommend? I weight 260.
Hi there. Both will take your weight, so both viable options. If you are over 6ft and can afford the price then get the Apollo phantom If you are over 6ft and cannot afford the price then don't buy either (the emove will be too short for you unless you can modify the handlebars) If you are under 5'8" get the emove cruiser If you are under 5'8" and can afford both still get the emove cruiser as the Phantom may be too tall for you Hope this helps, Des
Just rip it up, don't even open the letter. Don't answer the door
The emove cruiser is the only scooter I can order from ride and glide. I’m 152 kg and emove cruiser s limit is 160 kg
Thank you! I am going to try to make windows for the porch we are building on my little Art Studio Shed!
Wonderful! Good luck with that. Des
The little piece on your overalls above the chest pocket is for walkie-talkie radios
Surely not? Des
I'm telling you mate. I was stressed as shit before going to bed last night. I did some mediations then after I came across this video. Best night sleep I've had in ages 😂👌🏻. When watching your videos I feel like a 9 year old boy watching his dad in the garden. You haven't got millions of subscribers but I'm being very truthful with you. Your content is not only informational about the subject topic but they also help in many different ways. Thankyou mate I appreciate you.
My friend. I'm delighted to hear that you find my vids beneficial in more ways than one. What wonderful feedback. I personally suffer from severe anxiety and depression and I know how important it can be to find something calming and therapeutic. Thanks very much for your support. Wishing you peace and harmony in your life. Take care, Des
I hope your hedge is very heavy duty too 😉
I understand where you're coming from but realistically I can't see anyone pulling out the hedge and there's always a car parked the other side anyway. Plus, the trailer is anchored to one of the posts and has a high security hitch lock. Fingers crossed - should be hunky dory! ATB, Des
i would have stomped the ground before adding the gravel
I did tamp it down before adding the gravel. That said, it probably wasn't necessary anyway as it was thick clay. ATB, Des
aint the rotating type of pole digger easier to dig with?
It's irrelevant mate. I haven't got one and I don't need one. What I have worked very well. ATB, Des
@@21stcenturycaveman33 i see. Just saying, in general, maybe for others, as a tip, the rotating one seemed to work better for me. ATB,
Fair enough mate. Nowt wrong with having options. Take care, Des
Top tip when you pull completely up be careful you don’t kick any small stones down Good job 👍👍
Good tip that for sure. Many thanks, Des
Bet that was an hair raising moment with the gas pipe! Good thinking with the steel plate.
Yup, the ol' rectum was flapping a bit mate lol. Thanks for dropping by. Des
Great job! Heaps of respect for all who DIY and give anything a go. Excellent result and another skill under your belt
Thank you very much! Best wishes, Des
Thinking of doing this and found your video during my research! Do I need to contact building control or get planning permission from the council to carry out the work myself as a DIY project.
Hi there. I'm in the UK and none of the above required. Des
@@21stcenturycaveman33 thank you - and you’re right. I checked with my council and looks like we’re good to go. Just need the courage to start! Any tips? Or things you’d do differently second time round?
Hiya buddy. Would do it all the same again. Unfortunately, these clips were taken before my YT channel so I left a lot out and had to replace with photos instead. If I had to do it again tomorrow - no change whatsoever. Hope that reassures you. Des
You shouldn’t chaulk the inside only the outside of the enclosure,
Hiya buddy. It may not be required but there has been no negative consequence in the slightest. Not convinced that it really matters tbh? Best wishes, Des
Given its unpleasant associations these days, I'd try not to use the phrase 'guys 'n gals'?
Great vid. Very helpful, thanks for taking the time to share your tips 👍 🙂
My pleasure! Des
When you have a problem getting the tools out,use the head of the toothpick. [It's one solid piece and it's effective].
Good idea that. Thanks, Des
The old 345 we used to use this block paving and patios nice job
Thanks mate, Des
garden birds are kept at artificially high densities from bird feeders placing a desastrous impact on insect populations so killing birds to eat them is a ballance and there are few natural predators now so again its a ballance thing, noit to mention food security
I sooo nearly threw the grass box out 😡 thank you
My pleasure, Glad it helped. ATB, Des
Good set up, thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching! ATB, Des
Hi is that 3 inch by 2 inch frame walls & floor thanks Gordon
The last 10 secs of this vid is one of the creepiest things ive seen on YT.😮

hes one of the nicest blokes on you tubeand obviously just having a bit of fun. get a life
This could be an asmr video 🙂. Thanks for sharing.
I think it should be on everyone's Top 10 list 😁 ATB, Des
Im having the same problem. I tink im bank rolling AliExpress with all the tools ive brought off there
Well, they'll need replacing soon and so it continues ..... lol. Thanks for your support. Des
Good solid carry. Thanks for sharing your edc. Regards Cliff.
It'll do me for now mate. ATB, Des
How is the welding going? Have you got a job yet?
Hiya buddy. Not looking for a job mate. It's just a hobby. ATB, Des
Very helpful video thank you!
You're welcome! Des
Yawn....
Your not having a meltdown lol
At this stage I'm not ruling anything out ..... Des
Nice video thanks, but I'm wondering if I can just copy your idea on my kitchen extension flat roof, it's not leaking yet, but does have holes in the sides over the ridges, it's got tar and stone chippings on it, have they stopped using blow torches and tar and chippings now?
Hi there buddy. First of all I'm not a professional roofer. However, in my opinion, athough it's not ideal you could simply put this on your kitchen roof just to get you by for a year or two for sure. However, it won't be any good long term. Alternatively, you could always buy rubber sheet instead which will be a much more durable alternative although much more expensive. If it's something you want to do yourself then you could try this. Just start researching roofing materials - you'll be surprised at the options available. Another alternative would be to consider buying a can of brush on bitumen repair for felt roofs. Some of the guarantees are 10-15yrs and you can actually brush on whilst it's wet. Yes, the torch on stuff is still available. The chippings are to protect against the elements, e.g. uv rays from the sun and to give extra longevity. ATB, Des
£300 for that watch is an absolute joke. It’s not better than a £10 one
Lol. OK mate. ATB, Des
Really do enjoy watching your vids mate. Anyway, really liking the tiny screwdriver for the glasses - I may have to get one or two of them.
Thanks so much. Have a great day where you are buddy. ATB, Des
Has a different meaning in USA lol
Please share!
Wow very informative Des it has made me completely rethink and reorganise my bag I take with me for filming (starting a new channel soon will keep you updated when it's live) I tend to carry absolutely everything and never use most of it lol so this video has definitely gave me food for thought and planning more for explores thanks Des this is the kick up the bum I needed
Hey up Dan. Hope you and yours are all good matey. Thanks for continuing to support my channel. Kepp me posted about your new channel matey. Good to hear from you. Des
@21stcenturycaveman33 your welcome buddy I always enjoy your content I see you have grown in numbers I'm sure last time I looked you was around 4k subs now your almost 17k wow fantastic progression I Hope you are on the partner program with youtube
It’s worth waiting for a skim. Lining paper hides nothing. It’s supposed to be used under decorative wallpaper to stop the seams pulling apart. For anything else its a waste of time. If it has to come off it will damage your drywall. Learn to skim for yourself if you have to. Skilled labour adds value and better finish.
Ive just bought this from Wickes yesterday to replace an old flymo that i loved. Im dreading putting it together so appreciate your video. I like the fact your garden is like mine and the ground isnt all level and there are lumps and bumps to go over. Also loved the little rabbit appearing in the background.
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch my vid and for dropping by. Best wishes, Des
How did the hedge fair up with the splashes from the bleach / water ?
Hi there. I can confirm that the hedge is absolutely fine. Still growing at a tremendous rate and strong as ever. Honestly, just ignore the fainthearted, the bleach has done absolutely no damage whatsoever. Best wishes, Des
Would it not be easier to stagger the cross pieces like we do in stud walls.
Purely personal choice. Makes no difference at all. ATB, Des
Nice to see Harry Hill is finding work 😁
Ha, ha. Like it!
You have the exact same voice as auto shenanigans are you he?
I can neither confirm or deny ...................
The only reason you are having difficulty is because the ground is too wet. I have one of these things with the 16 HP engine, I am 156 cm and 50 kg, I use it alot and have zero problems operating it and moving it around in tight spaces. The only modification I made was to lower the handle height. I have hit burried construction bricks and rocks the size of grapefruit; the rotavator jumped around less than a couple of inches lifted them to the surface. Incredibly capable machines. It only stalled three times when I hit three burried trees.
Hi there and thanks for your very helpful comments. Your opinion makes much more sense and is indeed the most likely scenario. Best wishes, Des
@@21stcenturycaveman33 Thanks. Check for videos on the proper soil wetness. You would also have difficulty if the soil is too dry, but it would not be as bad. Good luck!
I just had one of these Barreto machines for the weekend. I took it to 500 square meters of clay on Saturday, after a dry week in May. And I can say it absolutely chews. Pulling rocks, bricks and all sorts out of the earth along its path. I have to agree that the soil in the video appears too wet. What makes me agree with that? Well, I had the unfortunate mishap of bursting a poorly installed mains water pipe, saturating an area of the garden. And the results of later tilling that area were much similar to that shown in this video. Especially regarding traction. The wheels easily pull the machine under correct conditions. The machine did a great job. It can also counter-rotate the tines for a more aggressive till. After I had removed major rocks and other debris on the first pass I honestly don't think I could have pushed it hard enough, At times, when I reached down to pick out rocks dislodged by the machine, it felt like I was swimming in soil, with a lovely deep tilth. I had seen this video while waiting on delivery of the hire last week. And it had me worried I had bitten off more than I can chew. But operation is intuitive and a breeze. The machine removed all effort on my part, save for hoofing it around to turn. Which, considering the amount of manual labour it was saving me, I didn't mind one bit. Thanks for the video. I hope this helps anyone else when planning their garden renovations.
you pass the sika protection on the outside of the osb panel - is it recognizable because it is smoother and the other is rougher? Thank you
Hi there. Yes, the outside is the smoother side and does not have the print on it. ATB, Des
I thought that when you mounted the walls you would have inserted the sheath between the ground and the wall to act as insulation from the rain or in any case as insulation - minute 12.30
Hi there. Sorry, but not quite sure what you mean. Plse explain. Thanks, Des
I have 1 corner with a wall and 1 free corner - question, do you always recommend making the 4 walls in wood as you do in this video - to have more stability - thanks
Hi there. The 4 walls will definitely give more stability because they will be more rigid and be better anchored to the floor and each other. If fixed securely, the timber will be nice and strong. If you have a 'free' corner then provide this is braced properly then this should be fine. If I have misunderstood your question(s) then plse get back to me and I will try and clarify. Thanks very much, DEs
Ive got one and its been used and abused. I'm now on my 6th belt (worn them out) and its still going strong. I picked mine up at £16 so thought I would get one or two jobs out of it at most.Ive done 100s of sanding jobs with it and its solid. I also picked up one of their palm routers (£19) and that's still going strong.
Thank you for your very constructive feedback. Much appreciated and very helpful. Best wishes, Des
