    Interesting but a bit misleading. Most people aren’t so much worried about the output of one panel when it is slightly shaded. They’re worried about the impact of a whole panel or more being shaded impacting production of other panels in the string. For example a tree or building shading half of your string as the sun moves. That’s the comparison we need…

    • @mcelectrical
      @mcelectrical Před 3 dny

      Sure. If a single whole panel is shaded, both Enphase and fronius react the same. They loose a panel. Fronius does it with the help of bypass diodes. Enphase just turns off 1 micro. Fronius can keep working until about 3 panels are on the sun. Enphase can keep working while 1 panel is in the sun.

    If you are talking about charging your EV, one really needs a very big batteries to charge it overnight. Or need to charge the EV during day time with big power of solar panels. I am installing a 25kw+ panels on my roof for that reason.

    Love my Zappi charger! The one you show is the v2, the new v2.1 is very different internally but does still have the overheating issue, they de-rate when the internal temperature gets over 65 degrees, Due to the very good export tariffs available here in the UK (double what I pay overnight) , I no longer use my Zappi during the day, it only charges overnight so never has issues with being too hot, probably good for longevity too.

    I have GEN24 for 2 years, the first year without problems, the second every two or three months an error appears (the manufacturer does not know what the error is) and a problem with WiFi as well. With a new modem, the distance is even 5 m. Reset unit everything returns to normal. And adding a 7.1KW battery for 12+ thousand is a rip-off in broad daylight. Apart from that, it is a good inverter, maybe it just happened to me, who knows?🤣

    Hello! Thank you for your interesting videos! I have a question for you! The situation is this: I live in Ukraine and before the war with Russia I installed a 10 kW station with a Gen 24 Plus inverter and a 5 kW BYD battery! Now Russia is constantly hitting the Ukrainian energy system, destroying our substations! In winter, there is little sun, the city grid stations are destroyed and there is no electricity from them for months, it is impossible to charge the battery! There is only a 5 kW gasoline generator! How can I safely recharge the BYD battery from this gasoline generator? Thanks in advance for your help!

    We have a Zappi and it's great. We have single phase, all that high current stuff doesn't apply. We have 4kw of solar and we leave the Zappi to harvest all it can and a couple of kw is the best it usually runs at. It needs no app. It has a panel. It is not connected to the internet. How do those app controlled charge points talk to a phone? Do they have a sim card? Or am supposed to rewire my house to get internet into the garage? No the wifi signal does not reach.. No, I am not going to park my car in the living room just to get wifi

  • @alexk6745
    @alexk6745 Před 8 dny

    It is not better! It is junk just because design was made so poor. I'm speaking about 3phase Fronius. It requires exactly 3 phases, while in theory it could work only having one phase and the rest could be taken from solar if not enough or solar not stable. Why on earth you would want do an expensive 3 phase upgrade when you actually need less dependence on the grid? If it can work full backup when no grid power then I have a question why on earth I would need to connect it to all 3 phases? Why it can't just work of one phase? This makes no sense as upgrade to 3 phases cost more then the cost of the 3 phase inverter 10kWh. This is so stupid. I was thinking I found a good one, but this was a show stopper for me and I have to start looking for something else. What a disappointment.

  • @herbertvonsauerkrautunterh2513

    I currently run a standard hot water system under 200L on an off grid system. It's inefficient. I have an older best pump system that needs a new thermostat. I'll be installing that soon. Also upgrading to 50kw of battery and 20kw solar. I live in town and have a grid connect system as well which will just take care of solar feed in and back up if required. I do it too me self reliant and independent of government and the BS or there. Not for climate change or net zero which is a scam. Be free.. Not a compliant slave.

  • @lukepeterson1150

    Why are you putting an element hot water system at $3300? $1150 will buy a Thermann element hot water system at Reece plumbing with wifi control of temperature and heating times which suits solar. Also, the 1.6kw heater in the heat pump is tiny at 1.6kw in hybrid systems. I’m trying to imagine using a smaller element than found in a kettle to heat 160 litres, or 160 kettles. It would take hours.

    That's interesting. However, the Zappi looks like it can be upgraded or repaired cheaply. The other units would have to be replaced if they become faulty. • @mcelectrical

      Fair comment. But most people wouldn’t upgrade a charger. And the fact that it had basic issues makes me concerned about the stuff I dont understand or can’t upgrade. But I agree, they seem so much simpler than a solar inverter but cost similar. I’m sure the price will drop soon enough

    Could you explain in more detail how MPPTs in a string inverter could still optimize leaving behind one fully shaded module in the string? If one panel in a string is fully shaded, naturally the entire string is affected since they are all connected in series and there is no way an MPPT in a string inverter can still perform to get the juice out of the remaining unshaded modules. Your response is much appreciated.

    • @mcelectrical
      @mcelectrical Před 12 dny

      Great question. The answer simply is solar panel bypass diodes. Each panel has 3. The main aim of the bypass diodes is to prevent the panel from getting a hot spot - but that’s irrelevant to the question. The fortunate second advantage is that the bypass diode engage and “bypass” a third of a panel at a time that would have otherwise dragged down the string. It’s the smarts in the inverter that picks the voltage and current to allow this to bypass. Short of a complicated story

    • @ranjusranjus143
      @ranjusranjus143 Před 23 dny

      @mcelectrical The rise of China is a good thing for the world. If it was not for China the prices at the supermarkets, hardware, electronics, vehicles, etc, would be exorbitant. That tesla you are driving would right now be costing at least 2ok more were it not for BYD. There is just too much anti-China rhetoric propaganda . China gives us a choice...a free choice.

    HI Mark. When we looked at getting a home battery we were told we’d have to buy an inverter for each powerwall vs the BYD that we could expand with extra modules without having to get any more inverters. For us that was a deal breaker and we went with BYD. I noticed this didn’t come up on your video. Were we given incorrect advice?

    • @mcelectrical
      @mcelectrical Před 23 dny

    Subtitles might be via AI Bot which doesn't understand Aussie well. I have Longi Hi MO 5m LR5-72HPH 555 W panels. Here searching if they have internal bypass diodes (spec sheet doesn't mention). I wonder since I see a great increase in power output when one panel in a string of 7 comes out of shade at 10 am in July (U.S.). If diodes, they should just bypass the single shaded panel, not limit the whole string. If no diodes, I need external optimizers to get more power in the morning. (Can't trim the neighbor's tree). No shading in Winter. The Summer sun rises and sets ~45 deg north of East-West on June 21 at 38.6 deg latitude.

    Thanks Mark, an informative video. I actually found this after doing a search as one of the sales people giving me a quote mentioned that the best solution was to use solaredge optimisers because the shading on my roof would void the warranty of the panels. I checked the warranty doco, usual manual doco and can't find any mention of shading clauses. Am thinking the manufacturers have since removed these clauses, but the sales guys haven't caught up yet.
