Traction Weekend at IRM 2017 - Part 2
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 7 lety
On Sunday, July 2nd, the museum commemorated the 60th anniversary of the end of passenger service on the Chicago Aurora & Elgin. Trains of CA&E wood and steel cars ran out on the museum's mainline until shortly after noon, when service was abruptly shut down. Don't worry, the "standed" passengers were soon "rescued" by a Chicago & Northwestern bi-level train. Trains featured in this video inclu...

IRM Traction Weekend 2017 - Part 1 On Saturday, July 1st, the Illinois Railway Museum presented a moving history of the Chicago elevated system. Over the course of the day, a century's worth of "L" cars were in operation, starting with the earliest electric equipment in the morning and finishing up in the afternoon with elevated cars that ran past the turn of the millenium. Trains featured in t...
Finished SDF40DD A-B-A Set

A video of the finished A-B-A set of SDF40DDs in Milwaukee Road passenger colors. The SDF40DD is a fictional locomotive. Designed by me upon commission from Jeff King of milwaukeeroadtrainshop.com. Jeff wanted to build a "what-if" model of a super-long locomotive with a modern, EMD-style cowl body over a Baldwin Centipede frame. The bodies of the A and B units were modeled in Maya LT and 3D pri...

Trolley Pageant at the Illinois Railway Museum, July 6, 2013
zhlédnutí 36KPřed 11 lety
The Illinois Railway Museum's annual Trolley Pageant is a chance for the museum to showcase their extensive collection of electric railroad equipment. Since this year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the museum, the volunteers at the museum wanted this year's pageant to be spectacular. So I drove out to Union, Illinois, and set up my camera on the balcony of the museum's Spaulding ...

Each year during Diesel Days the Illinois Railway Museum holds a Parade of Power showcasing pieces from the museum's collection of diesel-powered locomotives. Here we see each entrant as is pulls up to the reviewing stand (i.e. the museum's East Union depot). The entrants in this year's parade are: 1. United States Army 8537 (GE 45-Ton, 1944) 2. Commonwealth Edison 19 (Brownhoist Crane) 3. Comm...

Trolley Bus at Illinois Railway Museum

The Illinois Railway Museum has an impressive collection of electric busses. But unlike their streetcar counterparts, they don't run on a regular basis. When we heard that the museum was planning on operating some of its "trackless trolleys" during Members Weekend, Jen and I took this opportunity to experience something a little different... Here we see Miami Valley Regional Transportation Auth...

Spent the day at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, ILL to see some trains and get pictures of the visiting steam locomotive C.P.R.R. #63, Leviathan. First up is Leviathan pulling into the with a pair of Lackawanna heavyweight coaches. After arriving at the station, she uncoupled from the train to head back to the engine shed to refill her water tank. Next is the museum's caboose train pulle...

It's fantastic to see how well the poles move to stay in contact with the overhead wires. Almost magic. Amazing engineering.

Muy bonito video y muy bien conservadas estás bellezas gracias por compartir
They have alot of switchers
The Burlington diesel streamlined locomotive reminds me of the one showed on the classic movie, This Gun for Hire starring Veronica Lake made in Los Angeles in 1941.
I live 15 minutes away, great place!

The postwar PCC Chicago trolley that you see was the largest city service trolley ever built in America. Even bigger than the ones in Boston.

How do I get job driving cable car , I have cdl p endorsement and been driving busses for 18 yrs
Those are trolleys not cable cars. Cable cars are pulled by underground chains between the tracks.
Can we see the finished model, and not just a 3-d rendering?
The good ol` smokin` alco
Great! Thank you 😀
I'm a train and I approve this video! :D Choo choo!!!

The horn at 6:45, the wabco e2, that's my all-time favorite horn.
Trainz 2 in real life
The inside of the old IC cars is pretty much like the inside of CTA's 4000 Series L cars.
What time does this train come by?
In the case of the CA&E I can not imagine the motorman hanging out of the cab backwards as the train is moving
U r lazy with your filming .God forbid you follow the loco so we see the back of them going away.
It's a good thing they stopped making alco locomotives
What a fabulous salute to American ingenuity. 😁😁
If you buy the Pentrex Program "The Ultimate Chicago". I think you are in it.
Thanks for the fantastic video. A lot of variety! Nothing like it here in Australia where our state governments prefer to destroy heritage vehicles rather than preserve them.
Apparently they learned from the Southeast Pennsylvania Transi Authority that scrapped most vintage trolley, subway, el cars in Philadelphia. Only a few Broad Street subway cars survive in museums in America plus some Philadelphia trolleys.
That horn blow at the beginning is just asking for ear problems, amazing nonetheless
Love that Burlington SD 24! Remember seeing them when I was younger. One of my all time favorite loco's!
I may have missed it somewhere! But of all the videos l watched and comments l have read l never saw any praise for the section gangs who worked very hard and long hours. To keep the rails in great shape so we can enjoy shows like this! So to ALL those who have worked on the tracks, and other work that sometimes may go unnoticed. l want to say Many THANKS! For all you do. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Oh, I enjoyed this so much! Remember riding these when I was a very young child in the 1950s (Cleveland) and they "crackled" all the time from the overhead wires. Wish they were still running today.
I remember seeing trolleys in my hometown of Toronto when I was a child. I was so disappointed when the city’s transit system ditched them in 1993. Would I want to seem them on the streets again? Absolutely. I wish the same for other North American cities such as Chicago, Calgary, Montreal, and Sherbrooke. Thanks for sharing this video (I discovered it a bit too late). (-:
Saw that Milw F-unit and instantly I was back in 1974 waiting on Indiana SR1 at the Erie Lackawanna crossing as symbol freight Milwaukee 76 rumbled by! Sigh...
