Practical painting. That’s what I’m about and what this channel was created for.
There are many channels out there that focus on very intricate miniature painting and they are great for learning how to win the next Golden Daemon award.
But most gamers live with the more real issue of having too many unpainted and unbuilt miniatures, and not enough time to work on them.
In my videos, I focus on high efficiency techniques to get your miniatures on the tabletop faster, without sacrificing quality or pride of work.
I’ll share techniques that I’ve used for years, and ones I learn in my continuing journey. I hope that this will help you speed up your work and start to field fully painted armies!

Superb job however. If there is one unit on the entire of 40k where I'd want to have like 6 different variations at the same time. This is it.. I bought 3. I'm waiting for then to arrive. I love this unit

These are the worst to build. My God :(
@@Michaelkayslay haha. They’re older minis with terrible instructions. I somewhat agree but there are worse ones!
@@no.6minis I glued my fingers about 344 times while building 15 GG :(
@Michaelkayslay oof!
The undercoat isn't the problem. The speed paints are what makes it look bad. They create a very monotone look, really needs highlights.
Speedpaints do come out of the bottle richer and deeper colored. They’re meant to go over pure white primer.
These are great! Once I finish my Battalion maybe I'll take a swing at one offs like this. You make freehand seem so much more approachable.
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻 These ones offs are fun to do!

You need water, that’s why it’s grainy
@@andreaambrosini9711 for slapchop? Most drybrushing is grainy by nature.
@@no.6minis yeah, even though I’ve never seen such grainy drybrush
Nice conversion. The KOTR on horse Set is already somewhat annoying due to the left arm issue, but the KOTR on foot is a nightmare. Just let us attach BOTH arms and not model the arm onto the chest and DONT give us monopose or semi monopose BS. I miss the days were building kits was actually fun. But the newer kits are all so bloody dull and boring to assemble. I mean I've been in the hobby for years and I have no issue with kitbashin or modelling parts with greenstuff, but the people just coming into the hobby never really learn to be creative with the newer kits and half their army looks the same. It feels like were going back into the 80s early 90s again when it comes to unit variety.
@@bobdole8830 yeah I’m not a huge fan of monopose models either. Sure they look great but when they’re in big groups, the models look like copies of each other. That’s why I like Warlord Games Bolt Action minis. The heads, arms, accessories and weapons are all customizable. No two models will look the same.
I've been experimenting with Holy White and Blinding Light. I'm preferring Holy White with a final dry brush with regular white paint to lighten up the gray. Blinging light can darken the seams like I'd prefer.
@@RecklessFables holy white is a lot more gray I agree so a final drybrush is a great idea!
Im super late to this and im trying this on guard tanks but is this process strong enough to support upside-down travel? I have a i put steel plates on the lid, bottom, and walls of the tub with the idea of slapping the tanks on the walls, bottom, and hanging upside-down on the lid.
@@lastdracon yeah for sure. Just be sure to use enough magnetic tape. A long strip all across each track will give you crazy good grip that should be fine upside down. But with anything magnetic, hit it hard enough and they’re dislodge so watch for potholes!
Can you do another one like this for the echo base defenders?

Awesome paint tutorial sir. Please tell me are these figures 1/72scal figures from Italeri, and secondly what drying time do you allow the figures to dry after each application. Again an awesome tutorial. Many thanks.
@@user-bg6vn9ck3r thank you! These are actually 28mm Perry Miniatures minis.
As for drying time, the only step that requires maybe 1 hour of drying is the primer. You don’t want to start painting until the primer is dry. But after that there’s almost no waiting time. Since I was working on 24-48 models at a time, once I finish one color on the last model, the first one I painted is already dry. So I just keep going. It’s one of the best things about batch painting. You don’t have to wait for each paint application to dry.
Thank you very much for your reply. I am gearing up to begin getting back into my 1/72 Airfix,Revell, and Italeri Napoleonics. I have never employed your approach but it is worth a try. Again fellow hobbyist thanks.

Did you forget to nuktiply the damage for raking fire?
Ooh good catch! I actually made a mistake and calculated it as a bow rake (1 extra damage per hit, so +3) vs a stern rake which this was (+4 damage). But it did end up being just one point difference so it wouldn’t have changed the result.
As per the other comments a nice presentation of the paint job. Each step makes it an easy process to apply. I rather think you got the colour wrong for the tartan on the kilts because green was absolutely wrong for the pin line on the kilts. If you look back you will notice they were red first and then yellow on top. Ironically I did this on a stack of Airfix Highlanders back in the late 70's when trying to build a diorama of the squares receiving the charge of the French at Waterloo. But who is going to know in a game?
@@user-um1xo9ed1x yeah the tartans were so small that I had to make a judgment call on that. Red lines may have been too loud and red plus green lines would be too busy. So it was definitely a compromise.
I’ve got into Star Wars legion a little while ago but I didn’t really care how my minis turned out so I have a bunch of crap paint jobs but i want to start making them look good
Huh... I thought Eridani Light Horses used the original SLDF Olive Drab...
@@senint I’ve seen both schemes and thought the desert tan one was a little more appealing. But yeah you can use an olive drab color as the main color if you prefer.
Nice work! looks goood!
As one thick coat over smooth wide surfaces it looks decent but anything with edges or details it sucks a$$ as a "one coat paint". Dry brushing is a solution to that issue but it adds an extra step obviously. Without the drybrush it leaves nearly pure white on the raised edges. Vallejo Metallic Air or regular Vallejo metallic paint with airbrush medium in a 2:1 paint to medium ratio gives you a fast, single coat paint with a wash and/or drybrush that looks much better in the same number of steps. P.S. I did test speedpaint as a wash(2:1and 1:1) over standard metallic and I thought the result looked better than the standard wash you'd normally use.
@@McClane4Ever. good pointers. I’m an AP fan but I like Vallejo too.
I love your videos, very useful and informative. Have you tried using a black primer as these specific figures are mostly black? With epic napoleonics I started doing this method even leaving some black in recesses and the end result still looks great. Saves painting hats, backpacks, shoes etc
I think the general rule of thumb is spray/ airbrush one of the most prominent colors on the model. For these Highlanders I still feel that red is the one with the most surface area.
What section of rules covers the minerva incident where both ships take damage? I see rules for obscured being a -2 modifier, but nothing about multiple targets.
@@naroe2001 that would be on page 24 of the main rulebook, under “shooting at grappled ships”.
I found a "new" method. welcome to the late 90's and thank the maker we don't have to use glazes anymore. good share and hopefully people that hate the slapchop method will see it.
@@foozbear603 yeah grisaille has been around for awhile. Both this and slapchop can both be argued as grisaille methods. I do prefer this or even zenithal over slapchop.
Hi for sprue goo, what consistency am i looking for? Can it be too runny or thick or is it all preference
The consistency in the video is about the thickest I’d go. You can make it slightly runnier and it’ll be fine too.
@@no.6minis thanks!!!
@bigkabuto9748 I only use sprue goo for gap filling so I use it much runnier. When I make it too thick I just use tamiya airbrush cleaner (which is the same or very similar to their plastic cement but much cheaper) to top it off.
@@jjjjj4222 good tip! I bought some cleaner
1mm Pin Vise drill is pretty big at this scale, you can get them down as fine as 0.1mm (though very fragile at this size), Ive drilled resin with 0.3mm before and its fine if you take your time. Tutorial is great by the way.
Yeah that was my smallest bit. But you can definitely go smaller as long as the thread can be fed through.
Thanks for the video. I have already painted a copy of this box so it was interesting to see how you painted the same mechs. One questions: where is your accent from? When you pronounce ⟨sword⟩, you seem to pronounce it with a [w], I have only ever heard it with the w as a silent letter.
I've had small bits of Warhammer sprues in PRECISELY the same brand of Mr. Cement shown for five months and they have not melted into goo. I'm clearly doing something wrong.
Not sure if the plastic is a different kind? Mine were from games workshop plastic kits. Some plastics don’t melt in this glue
@@no.6minis Yeah, something was clearly up with the sprue I used. I just put more Warhammer sprue in the same bottle ten minutes ago (based on your video) and I can see it dissolving by the second. You get the cred for fixing my issue. Thanks!
On behalf of all of us new to the game, thank you for your entire series of Black Seas videos! Out of curiosity, is there a reason why you glued in the masts before you painted the ship, versus painting the masts and ship separately? Is it just a matter of personal preference? Thank you!
Thank you, I really appreciate that! This black seas series has been a labor of love because I really do enjoy the game very much. It’s rewarding to share the whole hobby experience with others! Regarding your question, yes, it is definitely a matter of preference because you can paint with the masts either on or off, whichever works better for you. For me, I found it easy enough to work around the large spaces between the masts so I just painted all my ships fully assembled.
@@no.6minis Any plans to do videos on any of the smaller ships, like cutters, sloops, and schooners?
@@erichhemm2848 I actually did a few videos on a clipper and sloop of war. But I do have a box of schooners I’m about to work on.
Awesome. I am speechless.
Ive just got into Black Seas. Great video well explained
Wearing your wedding ring while airbrushing on a bare hand...I see you're also a man who likes to live dangerously...
I'm very curious, what is your reasoning for liking the succession wars?
It’s a fair question. I started BT back in 80’s and the succession war period was the entire storyline back then. It made a huge impression on me. It so harkens back to the simpler days where single heat sinks were the norm, ammo explosions were the main cause of death and powered armor didn’t exist.
@@no.6minis gotcha. As a new era player, I find it the simplest, which doesn't mean bad, but least interesting. So far my favorite era by far is Civil war. Have a few grognards around here who flame those of us who play anything past Clan Invasion, so have developed a bad taste in my mouth for Succession war enthusiasts.
@HammerFell- yeah gatekeeping and neckbearding is never cool in any hobby. I’ll say that when the clan invasion happened, it was new and exciting. And the storylines during that era were cool too, keeping things fresh, followed by the excellent FedCom Civil war era. But the coming of the clans did forever change what BT used to be.

I always feel like 3 tones are better for slap chop. A dark, A mid, and a bright. Put on in order of Mid over the entire model, then turn model upside down and do the darks in downward strokes and then flip it up right and do the bright again doing only downward strokes.
Yeah my follow up video redid slapchop to better results using three tones. But it’s just varying intensities of white drybrushing.
@@no.6minis Oh man, I just realized how old this video was. My apologies. I'll sub and check out your other videos to see what results you've had.
I'm still amazed that no one picked up this method, and the new slop chop ideas are just diffrent primers. While here we have a real revolution.
Same! Hardly any videos of this being done but I think it looks way better than slapchop.
Bravo!
Great job.. Very nice looking! Keep up the good work. Have fun and be well!

nice idea with the wash. but when I think about it the slapchop method is faster. With the right brushes it works wonderfully. I've never had such a strange result as shown. I don't want to offend you, but to me it looks like no great effort was made. So for comparison, slapchop is actually “dry” brushing. In my personal opinion, in the time it takes for the wash to dry, unless you use a hairdryer, I brushed 4 miniatures gray and white.
Fair point but my counterpoint is I usually batch paint around 10 or more models at a time. By the time I finish the 10th one the first one’s watch is dry and I’m ready to start painting.
