    Great and helpful information is a short time. Question. I'm using this same multimeter on an Victron Lynx distributor, across the pos and neg, with everything turned off, I think.... My meter HV led glows red, and the display tells me OL OL tell me there is not voltage, but the HV led tells me there is 30 or more volts. I selected dc volts, and same thing. I don't know if I can work on it. 😬

      @@RonKipperDatacomm1 Hi Ron. Thanks for getting back to me. If you work with solar, you'll know about Victron products. Our Cirrus camper uses them and people use them in the RVs. Anyhow, this is weird, where my Ideal VOM is telling me OL, which I learned in this case is telling me Over Load, not Open Lead, but another VOM is telling me 13 volts. I thought the red led was only supposed to warn in High Voltage, 30+ volts. Oh well. Going forward.

      Allan I am not sure what you are tyrying to ask me. The meter is auto ranging so if there is a voltage between 0 and 600 Volts it should give you a reading. The red LED will lite ip and the lightning bolt on the display indicates voltages over 30 V indicating you might want to use PPE when testing hope that helps Ron

    The day the cable company installed a splitter, for tv our household began to hear high frequency noise throughout the house. We canceled tv but still hear high frequency. In the cable box outside the splitter is still attached and one side is not capped. Also all the ports inside our house are also not capped. Could this be the cause of high frequency noise and can i remove the splitter and cap the lines that were attached to the splitter to solve this issue?

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1 Před 18 dny

      It could help but I would suspect the signal strength coming into the home may need to be increased to make up for the loss of signal due to the splitter. If you remove the splitter and use just one TV and get a good signal that may be the issue good luck Ron

But- when I need a box offset at both ends, I get completely confused on which side to start the bend on the second end. @@RonKipperDatacomm1Hey thanks. Yeah after I thought more about it, it made sense to start the bending the exact same way I started the first one. This time I marked the “top” side of the EMT on both ends so I knew which side is up when starting the bend on the second end. That also allowed me to make that mark in the center so as to avoid the dog leg. I am adding a circuit in my garage and the conduit came out perfectly. Thank you.

    1) Is there any particular reason you don't offer a 10awg version? Is is not safe to use such a connector with higher current line (30AMP Dryer)? 2) Is it any code violation or is it a fire hazard to use these type of connectors that support 30A / 10awg wires (push-fit, if I can find another brand like Wago 221-612 maybe since Ideal doesn't seem to make them) to extend wires between 2 electrical boxes? In other words, is it OK just to connect them through one knock-out box, seal up that box inside the wall and put drywall over it (since you'd normally never access it again), then extend the outer Romex (all 4 wires in a single shielded cable) down to another knock-out box lower on the wall, which actually has the outlet? 3) Also as an aside (OP or anyone who knows), is there any code in the US North America (I'm in NJ) against putting the Washer and/or Dryer electrical outlets directly behind the appliance, or a minimum height from the floor? More details... I'm trying to extend/relocate my 30AMP 4-prong Dryer outlet lower on the wall. (The builder / former owner of this 1970's condo installed each above the appliances, which sit side-by-side not stacked, and my appliances are in the bathroom, so they're not hidden behind closet doors or anything to hide all the unsightly power cords and outlets...I'm trying to clean up the aesthetics a bit and would love to move both the regular 3-prong 15A Washer and 4-Prong 30A Dryer outlets lower on the wall, behind the appliances, and out of the line of sight, if possible.)

      Ken IDEAL does make a 3 port push-in for 10 AWG look for the 30-1039 if you want to use it. I am not an offical on the code but I do not believe it will allow you to seal up an electrical box as they need to be accessable. Hope that helps Ron

    The old phone man who explained tip & ring to me said that positive and negative are irrelevant to phone lines because polarity is (well, was) used for alarm system signaling over leased pairs from the telco. If the tip side is positive and ring is negative the system shows normal, but if the polarity is reversed it goes into an alarm condition. No polarity at all generates a trouble signal (which could be a Bad Guy cutting the lines). I think you mention elsewhere that the CO sends AC over the same line to drive the customer's ringer.

    lo recomendado es usar los wirenuts con resistencia de 1000 max volts y recisten temperatuda de 1000°F (depende que tipo de wirenut usan)

      Hey Elmer resistanve is not voltage and I do not know of a twist-on wire connector rated for 1000 degrees have fun Ron

      I know it isn't the same, I was talking about another video, for some reason, youtube posted in ur video, the other video the guy the guy was using only black tape on 12/2 saying that is better.

    I agree: pre twisting before wire nutting is more secure, but I would strongly caution if it's done repeatedly with the same wires, they will eventually break.

      Yes you need a different type of connector if you expect to redo it multiple time Have fin Ron

      That's why leaving a pigtail for outlets and switches is the best practice in my opinion. Then either use back-wired receptacles / switches, or use Wago 221 series lever nuts (or the Ideal equivalent, but I think Wagos are better) for switches with wire leads instead of terminals. Then future replacements of switches or outlets will be super easy, and no twisting or straightening will ever be required (if the person doing the replacement is competent, and doesn't use the cheapest available materials). (PS- before some idiot chimes in, back-wired is not the same thing as 'backstabbed'..)

      I agree pigtailing is a god way to go don't know about the Wago's though have fun Ron

    My 1/2" Ideal bender says there is a 5 " take-up for a 90 deg bend, implying the outside radius of the bend will be 5". The Ideal literature says the center line bend radius is 4 11/32 inches, which is ~4+1/2 EMT diameter (0.706"). This would make the inside radius 4". Adding the conduit diameter to the inside radius of the bender would make the outside radius 4.706" No matter what take-up I use the stub length varies +/- 1/8" . Which one is correct?

      Helo the radius if the 1/2" bender head is 4 inches. I would tell you all bender heads vary slightly so if yours is off by 1/8" just make a note about that and take it into account when making bends. Just a matter of getting to know your bender have fun Ron
