    Hey Mike! I love what you are doing for the 5 PRR Steam engines! The RR Museum of PA is one of my favorite places to go to when I’m in Strasburg! Keep up the great work!

      Nothing, just a static display when the cosmetic restoration is done. Cosmetic doesn’t mean restored to operation.

    Mike, You are doing great work there. The fact that you could save that cab is a miracle.I had seen it in person a year or two ago. On a much smaller scale, I had to repair a mishaped B6 cab roof on a prewar Lionel switcher not too long ago...my friend and I used metal snips to cut out a can of tuna to reinforce it and used Bondo on a tear in one corner...which worked fine! Sorry that your steps are much more involved and meticulous, but #1670 is looking fantastic. 🇺🇸

    That "pitting" is actually not so much, or only minorly from rust. That is scale driven into the head. Most likely the rivet was slightly overheated when installed.

    I do have a question that I'm not sure if you've answered before, are there plans to install a boiler jacket on the locomotive? I've noticed a lot of the engines in the yard lack the jacket, even 94, which is in the museum itself, so to me it would be nice to see the engine look complete.

    • @mikesmetalfab
      @mikesmetalfab Před měsícem

      Yes we will! We have all the material for all the engines in a shed. I'll be sure to show how we fit the new jacketing on.

    I noticed in the ash pan you used hex head nuts and bolts. Would square heads be more historically accurate? I realize they're not easy to come by anymore.

    • @mikesmetalfab
      @mikesmetalfab Před měsícem

      Good observation! We've found that as the engines were repaired, they would often get a mix of different hardware. We can get square headed nuts and I might see if we want to swap them out before it gets painted.

    Hmm project in Altoona a? I knew right away 1361 would be the number. I went up there a few weeks ago and I was told everything has been repaired and they will now be starting to put her back together! And boy do I hope that's true. Thanks for the awesome video can't wait to see 1361 make it's debut on the channel :)
