It's called a monstrance. It is used for exhibition of the Body of Christ. The idea is that the bread and wine of the Eucharist become the Body and Blood of Christ. How that happens is understood differently in different denominations. Romans consider it one way, Orthodox another, Lutherans yet another, and Anglicans another way again. The important part is that they all believe in one way or another that Jesus is present in the Eucharist. A monstrance is a suitably grand place to put consecrated bread, essentially the Body of Christ, in order to venerate it. So, for Catholics, what you're seeing here is literally Jesus being carried through the streets of Austin.

Quite a few are. We had a second annual Corpus Christi procession of the three parishes of San Benito. We start at an outlying church and process to the mother church in the downtown area. We also hold a joint Mass for Our Lady of Guadalupe at the bandstand in the park. And on Good Friday Stations of the Cross around the resaca in the park. Is your parish that visible with the faith?

The Bible never taugth that it Is the Sole Authority.. In Fact its never written in the scriptures and Scriptures teaches that the Church is the Pillar and Ground of the Truth.. The True Church which was founded by Christ in Peter and that Church is the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.. Christ is in the Eucharist because that is what He said and what is also written in the Scriptures.. unfortunately your blind.. why dont you try and research the Catholic teaching before you speak.. Tell that to the more than thousand Protestants who converted to the Catholic Church because they read the Bible . When Catholucs leave the faith it is because they put nothing into their faith. When Protestants convert to the Catholic faith they are clergy, biblical scholars, youth ministers. You can find them all over Catholic radio and TV as the experts in Catholicism. We have Anglican/Episcopal bishops, quite a few Lutheran clergy , many Presbyterian ministers,Baptists, Pentecostal one brought half his congregation with him.
