Lava Me 2 vs Emerald Chimaera

Interested in carbon fiber guitars? Graham looks at the Lava Me 2 and the Emerald Chimaera.
Even though you make some positive comments, a negative bias still shows through.
I paid 390 US. It's a practice guitar for sure. Speaker is a little small a thin sounding. My acoustics are actually louder imo. Lot of cool Lil features. If it could hook up to blue tooth speaker that would be a bonus. My 2 cents
I would but one if there was a way to bypass the active section of the electronics if the board failed.
If you turn off the onboard sounds, it acts as a normal electric guitar when plugged into an amp.
Lots of telling, no show.
Update: I’ve now used the Enya for a few rehearsals and a gig. So far so good. In fact, it’s better than my CAD$1000 Godin. I just plug it into my amp without any of the onboard sounds.
Thank you for the video! I understand enya uses coated strings. I assume fret life will be longer this way. Do you antisipate issues with refretting a carbon fiber fretboard? Thank you.
I can’t imagine refretting a guitar of this price. I just don’t think it would be worth it . . . unless you (unlike me) can do it yourself.
Bought one (Black) a couple months ago. Looks great, plays well, very light, and interesting tech is built in. Alas, many of its features are only available through the app, and you must have a smart phone to access the app. Since I don't use a smart phone, much of the "value" of the guitar was unavailable to me, and thus much less of a value for the money. I returned mine specifically because of that issue. Return has been accepted, but I'm still waiting for my refund.
Would it be loud enough by itself with acoustics unplugged?
Yes. I played on the internal speaker with a plugged in bass, drums, a plugged in guitar, and vocals on a PA. Volumes were all kept down (we were in a small studio) but you could absolutely hear it.
Got one a couple weeks back, seemed like a perfect couch guitar. After playing it a few days I suddenly realized - I'd gig this thing with no issues (using the 1/4" of course). Feels great - the neck/body joint is downright sexy - holds tune, intonates well - no downside. For comparison I own Steinbergers, Parkers, Godins and others, I'd happily throw this into gig rotation.
I feel the same way. Got a gig coming up in a few days . . . gonna give it a try and see what happens. Let me know how it goes for you.
thanks for review it's really helped
Also, with my acoustic amp finally having given up the ghost a couple of weeks ago, I just acquired a Positive Grid Spark Mini. Wow. This thing is amazing and a wonderful companion for my Nova Go SP1 and soon to be Nova Go Sonic. If you haven't alreadiy, check it out.
I'm planning on seeing if I can transplant my Spark Go into my Go Sonic
Thank you for an excellent review. I've got one coming Friday! Already have the Enya Nova Go SP1. Have you tried putting it through Garage Band?
Thanks! I tried plugging it in to my iPad Pro directly (USB C to USB C), hoping that garageband would find it. Nothing. I think we still need an audio interface via the 1/4 audio output. Too bad. If anyone finds a solution, let us know!
Thanks for the info, Graham.

It's a light version of CFRP = Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic, so it is a molded plastic shell. The good news is the fatigue characteristics and stability are great in this kind of plastic, the guitar will be stable and long lasting, the carbon polymers form chains through the plastic giving it CF's strength characteristics. The bad news is it feels like plastic, because it is.
Thanks for the info!
As I understand it... It's carbon fiber, but it's just not the woven matting. There's different types.
Guess it is molded not woven
Usb port is to charge and OTG
Got the charge part but not the OTG. Looks like it’s for software updates only?
@@reviewsfortherestofus6406 Might be you have charge only usb cable, not a data one
It’s a carbon fiber composite different from all carbon fiber
Thank you very much for this honest review 👏
Great review ! Mine is on the way. I have that 'need more guitars than I already have' disorder so naturally I had to get this. All in all though I am justifying this by having a guitar to go anywhere with without having to drag along an amp, pedals and cables so ............. Yaaay !
Never enough guitars!
Бери аккумулятор на 8 ампер и будет тебе счастье! Я пользуюсь таким и такой снег берет легко! Привет из России!
It's not designed for that deep of snow. You have to go out and do it in stages BEFORE it gets that deep. Common sense.
Smart other people trying to go right through it getting know where..
Hello to both of your subscribers! Solid review. People are crapping on this snow thrower for bogging down, but few mention that you can just tip it back a bit. Nice Tesla BTW.
Thanks! The thing is, it’s a snowblower for small properties. Anyone who thinks it can handle bigger jobs will be disappointed. For my purposes, it does exactly what it should do.
Will never dry out or age. My new wooden guitar dried up in a year and the strings lay on the neck.
That’s exactly correct! Humidity/dry climate spells death to wooden guitars.
What do you think about lava me pro vs lava me 3?
I haven’t played (or even seen) either … only online reviews. I’m not sure that either are worth US$1k+ I like the idea of an internal looper (Lava 3) but still … that’s a lot of cash.
I been looking at the new one, the Lava Me 3. It’s seems like a great guitar to take to the beach, park, camping, ect. But the very issue you talked about, battery dying, is giving me second thoughts. Living in the USA, and the only company that sells it is in China, and it having no access to inside electronics worries me some about getting a replacement battery, or even being able to replace it myself if I got one. I mean, eventually all batteries die, and I am left with a tech guitar that don’t work. How long before your battery went dead? Were you able to replace the one they sent you yourself? Was it a battery you could buy in the USA you think? I know this is prior model. But just trying to get information from anywhere I can. I contacted the company to get more information and spec’s, but never heard back, and their website has no spec’s, and very limited information about the guitar. It’s very hard to buy any guitar without playing at least the same model in a music store for me. But I really love the features of the LM3 in the few reviews I could find, and none of the paid reviewers answer your questions either! But thank you for your review!
The battery lasted less than a year. They were very responsive and sent a replacement within a few weeks. It came with a proprietary tool (a very simple wrench to loosen a few bolts) and instructions. The module is easily accessible inside the hole and the job was over in 20 mins or so. When the 1/4 inch output jack had problems, they didn’t respond at all. Frankly, I don’t think I’d pay US$1000 for the version 3. The new module is absolutely better than the Lava 2 but it still seems like a novelty. If you’re interested in a carbon fiber, I’d consider the Lava 2 on sale. Same guitar, simpler module. Alternatively look for a used Rainsong or Emerald - these are better guitars by far.
@@reviewsfortherestofus6406 Thank you for your reply! I decided not to go with the Lava 3. I bought a HyVibe smart guitar instead. I think for my needs it will be a great guitar. Haven’t received it yet, but I bought from USA seller, and got it for $200 less than Guitar Center sells it for, which is $200 less than if I ordered it from the manufacturers website, which is in France. Thank you again for the information!
