    Question, after you do this and get clear water. Do you switch back to the regular filter on its own? Or does this bucket need to be the permanent filter system?

    Your bucket is upside down the holes should be up to have water going true the bottom parts before going out of the bucket

      Sorry for the late reply, but I believe you are referring to the support vinyl that runs around the pool that the uprights run through. This is part of the pool setup and supports the middle of the upright poles. Hope that makes sense.

    Could I turn the bucket completely upside down, and eliminate the need for the hose apparatus going into the back of the bucket and sealing it etc. just putting it in the bucket and letting the water fall into the bucket with the filling in there, and the holes in the bottom?

      If needed, or noticed, yes, I would brush the bottom initially, but from there, just cycling the filter with the media in the bucket should take care of the rest.

    We fought iron in our water for an entire summer . This year we still had iron and we decided to try this method . The only difference is that we didn’t run it though our pool pump . We used a submersible pump and just connected the hose from the submersible pump right into the bucket . It just eliminated all the fittings and connections and we already owned the submersible pump . It was amazing ! It worked like a champ ! Thanks for the idea ! We were so thankful to have the iron gone !

      It takes a little while. I do it in 3 hour increments and take a break in between to give the pump a rest as to not blow the pump. Take your time on that part. No need to rush it and than have to pay $$$ to replace a well pump.

    ONE IMPORTANT SUGGESTION!! .... from using the "bucket trick" .... get at least get one (2 if possible) Ratchet straps or bungee cords, to straps across the front of the lid on your bucket... BECAUSE ! --->> the lid will eventually start to give or pop loose & you could start to loose small pieces of the stuffing or polly fill into your pool... or the whole lid could pop off from over time, the water pressure & the positioning of the bucket laying on its side (wear & tear) could cause your lid to give... don't strap the lid down to tight, this too can cause the rid to buckle... but YES! other than a few lil "live & learn" misshapens, than this is a MIRICAL WORKER... it works sooo well that we leave ours hooked up to the filter now 24/7... it just takes so much off the filter pump & cartridges work.... **SPECIAL NOTE- Not to mention, it's very soothing & calming to listen to, that our neighbors, whom lives a unnoticeable away from us, has asked in the past, in a joking way, if we could turn our water fall back on lol... they say they live to sit on their front porch late of an evening & listen to it, that it sounds like a waterfall or creek running

    THANK YOU FOR SAVING OUR POOL! The morning after our 5000 gallon pool installation was complete and I had added chlorine to the well water we had used to fill it, I woke up and was horrified to find our beautiful new pool was completely brown with stuff all over the bottom. After researching and watching this video, I put the poly fill stuffing I had in our skimmer basket and kept pump on. Every hour I took out the poly fill and washed all the brown out of it and reused it. Added some clarifier and stain away because I had skipped that step. Vacuumed the bottom of the pool twice, and I just woke up the very next morning and the pool is completely crystal clear! WOW! The liner wasn't stained after all, It was just so dirty that it looked that way. THANK YOU for making the video!

    This totally works... Amazing! I didn't bother with a lid or the extras. I just drilled several holes on only half of the side of bucket ( starting from about 4 inches above the bottom allowing any residue to collect @ the bottom & not come out while water pours from bucket). Then I just used bungee cords to secure the bucket sitting straight up on top step with no lid. Tied the pump hose to ladder so it would bend right into the top portion of bucket & viola! I changed the pillow stuffing 3 times in 3 days for good measure. It only took 1 day to transform the water, but wanted to be thorough. Once you have your water crystal clear you'll want to clean out your pump & put new filter in! I used a small piece of this pillow fill to wrap around my new filter too. By 2nd week I see no more hints of orange, yay!! Thanks Again!

    It looks like a great idea! I have had problems with my well water and pool for years. A couple of questions. Do you have water coming into your pump from the intake and the outtake? Does this put more stress on your filter system? I have sand filter system along with a salt water chlorinator. So I am thinking I may have to disconnect my Salt water system in order to set this up? What do you do when you need to add water to your pool? Thank you for this video and information! Greatly appreciated!

    • @jennifermartin1361
      @jennifermartin1361 Před 2 lety

      I am currently using this method, only been running about 30 min. I'm slightly worried about stress on the pump but I'm going to let it run overnight and will update in the morning! I'm also concerned that there isn't enough circulation since the outbound filter hose flow is now restricted by the bucket, but I'm periodically stirring up everything.all the comments are saying 12 hours and you're golden (or clear n this case)... so I'm trusting the process.

    • @burdigirl7769
      @burdigirl7769 Před 2 lety

      Im sure you have the answer already... But just in case... It cannot stress your pump whatsoever. It's just a second filter system. So instead of the outtake going straight into pool, it pours in & out of this bucket method & then into your pool. Super easy & no stress. To fill your pool: do the same thing... If using a hose, then it would be from hose to bucket & into pool 😁.

Any idea why this works and regular filters dont work? And lastly...i have HORRIBLE iron on my 12 acres. To the point i bought a 2500gal tank to catch rainwater. Do you think a setup from the well usiing the polyfil to fill up the tank would eliminate most iron??

    This worked awesome for us too removing the iron coloration of the water. It worked in 1 day (overnight). The only issue we ran into was the lid kept popping off our bucket. I had to ratchet strap it on. I may have needed a few more drilled holes to relieve pressure, or the lid/bucket were not a tight enough fit.

      @@jenking4394 I just add it to the pool water dumping around the jet discharge, guess the bigger containers are about 1/2 gallon. It takes about 5 minutes to become completely clear. For some reason have to redo after a rain, which makes no sense. Am thinking about using the above technique with the fibers in a leaf net under the slide discharge. Years ago called Iron Out to see if I could put it directly into the water well, they said no problem, but it was not designed for that type of use. So less toxic than chlorine.

Fill the pool up with the well water and then use this method to to take the iron/brown color out of the pool. We purchase a saltwater system with a sand filter, we connect this to the sand filter? Will we need to keep replacing the sand? The next day it should be clear and then we add the salt? thx

    • @Christa-tl8jb
      @Christa-tl8jb Před 4 lety

      Jessica Gurich - Unfortunately it didn’t. I learned that when the iron water enters the pool through the hose it’s in a ferrous state. When it’s in that state is does not stick to the material in the home made filter. However, once chlorine is added to the water it changes the iron to a ferric state which means the charge of the iron increased which I’m assuming is why it causes it to attract and stick to the material in the home made filter. It’s a chemistry thing that is slowly coming back to me as I write about it. So basically it needs to be chlorinated for the filter to work.
