Is that MDF you used for the shelf? Great vid, thanks
What material are the boards and what dimensions?
Why not just screw the boards directly to the joists?
Did you leave the 4 joist long 1st 3x2 over hanging between joists or do you butt them up on half a joist each and screw down?
Nicely done. Makita have a shoe that carries a jigsaw on theirs and Festools track, no more cleaning out the corners.
This is stunning! Thanks a lot!
Work of art🎉
This is very expensive and unnecessary in wood. You can make your own very stable and low cost loft legs. Cut an 8” length of 3x2 and screw a 6” length to it and a 4” length to that, gives a pyramid of 9” tall, from just 18” of wood. Make enough of these to be spaced along the top of the joists every 20”. Then sit full length 3x2 rails along the tops. This will straddle 12” of insulation above the joists and provides plenty of ventilation at half the cost. Edit: I will add in fairness, the method in the video is very quick if you don’t mind spending the small fortune in 3x2, but he should still have allowed some gaps for airflow across the joist runs.
Have you ever tried the dewalt 4 port charger on it? Looking to fit an inverter to the work van but unsure of which size could run the 4port charger
Yes it works fine. You'd want a 2000w minimum. But get a 3000w always better to have power to spare. 👍
Can you tell me if you cut the top point off the door for clearance purposes or if it was already like that? I have a door same situation and I still have the point on the door but as it stands I will be unable to close the door unless I back bevel to top of the door, the other option is to do something similar to what you have done here.
Great - just fitted a load of architrave and skirting (DIYer) and the labels are a pain to remove!!! Come on Selco. Thanks for posting. Regards Mike
Nice work 👍
Wonderful work. Could share the links of item you used to build. It will help us to buy a correct items. Thank you in advance
Why buy a cheaper battery if the one you have is so good 🤔
If you were asked to do this in a loft with 400mm of insulation, what would you do?
Its not a generic job tho??? My loft doesnt look like this. One guy says my joists need reenforcing Another says they’re fine but only with a “raised” system I look to do it myself and havnt got a fcking CLUE where to start!! All these loft companies are just robbing C**NTS!! I JUST WANT TO PUT SOME JUNK IN MY FCKING ATTIC FFS !!!!
Ive just been quoted £1600 just to put boards down in my loft WTF !!???? 220 square feet! Is this normal!???? Trying to get other companies out for more quotes but getting them out is a NIGHTMARE in itself!!! 1600 quid just to put some junk in the loft FFS !!!!?? Whats going ON !???
Without seeing the job its hard to say, but for just the boarding with no insulation or ladder fitted I would estimate the job to be between £900 - £1300. If its a simple job like the one in my video you're looking at around £500 in materials and one days labour for 2 men £400 if its going around the trusses and into the eaves then could take 1.5 - 2 days, hence the higher price.
@@benmakepeace5759 thanks mate. So 1700 is a bit high isnt it? Its not a BIG space. Just an average size space
20m² is a big space, and if its a limited company and they're charging vat and making a small profit on top of everything else then it is about right. If its a sole trader like me then yes over charging I'd say. But again hard to say as I've not seen the job. If you email me pics I can give you a better idea of costs. carpentrybnm@gmail.com
First time I’ve seen this done. Very impressed. Will be trying it out myself. 👍🏻
Hi, I’m sending the stilts back and doing this. What did you mean by having a gap at intervals? And also I have green floor boards 18mm, would OSB loft boards be batter?
What a fantastic bit of work. How would you approach a door for a cupboard under the stairs as the top rail wouldn’t be long enough? Use an offcut from the excess side rail and accept that the head rail would be smaller? (Guess what I need to do😂😂😂)
Hey the 3x2s did you stack them on top of each other and what screws size did you use
There’s no way I can do that with 3mm thick plywood
600mm spacing… metric. 3x2… imperial? They don’t look like 3”x 2”. Could that be metric too? 30mm x 20mm? If imperial, 3 high is 9” If metric, 90mm high… less than 4”. And lighter. Which is it?
Hi, what did you use to secure three layers together?
I'd like to do this except ductwork is along the floor.
Excellent work my boss would want this knocked up in an hr because he doesn’t have a clue what goes into making something properly
They're the bane of my life.
Who would normally fit this a carpenter or a locksmith?
Carpenter 100% would do it cheaper and better finish. Pretty much every Carpenter is a locksmith anyway. We just don't cut keys etc.
Cool video but tate bs 🤮
I know bud was just trying to get views at the time. Everything had him on so went with it. 😆
How much did the job cost in total? Cheers
Do my ears deceive me or was that a cheeky parp from the nether regions at the end there?
Haha no it was the camera man exhaling 😆
I'm curious, how did you come up with 460W for the Makita double charger? The charging current is 8amps. W = A × V
Why buy new cheap blades when you can destroy the cheap blades you already own.
Why 2 lengths of CLS at the front edge? Great looking project, thanks for vlogging .
Awesome bro...where did you got this kind of ladder from?
Hi mate. Great vid, is this set up still working well for you? I’ve just got my inverter to charge my e bike. Putting min on my transit same as yours this weekend. I’m just going to put a fuse in the positive cable for added protection.
I've got a new van now as I've upgraded. But this system worked perfectly for months never had any issues at all and the batteries seemed to charge just as fast as when in a mains plug. So I would say go for it, and good idea with the fuse. I will eventually have the same set up in my new mk8 transit but I will by a leasure battery and relay switch for the new van as it only has one battery.
@@BNMCarpentry thanks for getting back to me. Good to hear it worked well. Just waiting for my fuse to arrive and going to get it connected up. I’ll charge my bike while the engines running so should work fine off my original battery for now. 👍
Nice what bike have you got?
@@BNMCarpentry vitus sommet vrx with a load of upgrades. Had it a year now, fucking love the thing. 😎
Where abouts are you based? Would it be possible for you to do this on a pre finished door?
Can I get rid of any wooden beams to create more space
NO! They're there for a reason.
what door knob set is that?
I love the look of this & really didn’t want to lose space by adding the legs
Loved that video mate. Very informative. I spend my life working in lofts as a TV aerial installer and often get asked to do this. What size boards are those and are they chipboard? PS I have subscribed too 👍
Thanks for the video making it look so easy! Know it’s old video so maybe won’t reply just started to build mine but facing issues. I was going nice and smooth till got 4th side in and can’t get it to slot in either side? If I get it one slot in on the same side the other end is 2-5mm out? My foundation is level and checked cabin is square I thought if was to have issues would be at the start not 4 layers in. Any help would be appreciated
What size biscuits do you use on them?
20s
Nice!
Nice, quick question, what are you using to make the groove for the biscuits in the bottom stile ?
Thanks 👍 Biscuit router bit amzn.to/3T76pLz
update ? how you getting on
This set up worked perfectly for months but I have a new van now and I'm going to do the same thing with the same inverter but this time I will use a leasure battery with relay switch instead.
@@BNMCarpentry Look at battery to battery chargers. Victron is releasing their new Victron Energy Orion XS 12-12-50 next month, they work well with smart alternators czcams.com/video/lhTMsi6vPvU/video.htmlsi=795w1C0Dhz5Dm5tg
@@BNMCarpentrywould be cool to see the new set up when it's done
Hi. What size were the batons you used and what size screw do you us to fit them. Also the size of the boards please
@bnmcarpentry Loving this video. I’ve been told it’s not possible to put a cat flap in the Howden’s Daytona oak glazed door; and that “cat flap can not be put in this glass or any other glass door once it has been toughened. You would have to get a door made and glass made and hole cut in it a processing stage.” Does this sound right? Would appreciate your advices, thanks.
Yes you can't cut toughened glass it will explode into a thousand pieces. Might be able to fit a small one to the side of the glass tho.
Ah ok, thanks, so putting one below the glass should be ok then?
If it fits and not too close to the bottom of the door. Will void any warranty tho.
Great work, I was wondering how you would cover the seen edge at the top as a hardwood strip would look out of place until I seen the veneer going on. Looks beautiful mate.
