I went thru BESS in 84 or 85. We stayed in 4 man rooms. Not open bay. But I didn't go there right after basic. I wonder my class was in a different part of the base.

No one ever called it that on T-hulls, and as best I can tell, outside of 1960s training films, the only place it was ever common was on the SSBN 598 commissioning crew while the missile tubes were painted that horrible piss green. The Crew Call it "The Missile Compartment"

The best of the best…

As a submarine vet myself, seeing the submariners saying goodbye to their families and loved ones at 39:35, I felt every hug and kiss in those 2 minutes and 30 seconds of footage. I did 18 patrols on 3 SSBNs and none of them got any easier saying good bye to my family. The hardest one was on my second boat 3rd patrol my 4 month old son was in the back seat and all I could do was cry over knowing how much I was going to miss him. I was lucky enough to be home for both of my boys births.

There moves are amazing.i hope they don't forget this art .
