There is problem using the adapter with the newer cameras. I used it on the A6700 and it is buggy. But on the older ZV-E10 is ok. I cannot find a higher firmware. Anyone has seen a new firmware? BTW the USB cable is very picky only one out of 10 of the usb cable I have works. I think its because the cables are seldom used (this is a very old usb cable).
Yeah, the new cameras seem to be a bit varied although I tried the a74 and that worked great plus I'm sure I've seen the A6700 used in the comments but it might mean downgraded firmware or upgrading.

Anyone tested this with a ZV-E10 with a Smallrig? Does it fit?
@@StuporStudio scroll through the comments on this or my other video as I’m sure I’ve seen people talk about that camera.
The 80-200f2.8L is still such a bargain, its sort of older coating gives off a film-like color? Not sure but I love its IQ a lot
Yes when I use it defo has a lovely look which I can’t define. Obviously the AF is a louder and not as fast busy for sheer cost difference and looks it’s a steal at the price.
7Artisans UTTER FAILURE x 2. I had a SECOND brand new 7Artisans EF-to-E adapter sent, after the first utterly failed, even to supply power to the lens. What's the difference, between my experience and the author of this CZcams? I used 3rd party AF (brand new!) lenses, fitted with the Canon EF flange... including, of course, the shiny gold-plated electrodes so obviously intended for AF operation and EXIF report-back to the camera. My cameras: Sony a6400 and a6700. Repeat: I used the 7Artisans adapter, and the effect was as if no power ever passed from camera to (either) lens. Thus, nothing was possible. Not even manual focus in lens #1, which requires power for the manual focus ring to have any effect on the lens assembly. Remedy!: I bought the Altson adapter, which worked 100% on both lenses. Lens#1: Rokinon (first generation) 85mm F1.4 AF with Canon EF flange. Lens#2: Meike 85mm F 1.8 AF with Canon EF flange. There's more: I have used the Viltrox focal length reducer (aka "speedbooster; it has its own glass) with limited success, for both above-mentioned lenses, on the Sony a6700.
Wow that’s a massively annoying experience for sure. If I had that experience I’d probably jump ship from a brand for ever. If you go through the comments here you’ll see that many people have pretty decent experience. Yours is the worst I’ve seen so it’s so good you reported it. I can only think it is a quality control issue with the brand or sheer probability of getting 2 dud adapters. Maybe ask any of the users in this video or my other in the comments as people generally have been pretty good as answering questions. Thanks again for highlighting and I’m defo sorry you had this dead end experience. Did you manage to get autofocus with your new adapter?
Great advice and some really informative points thanks a lot! I am looking to purchase a 24mm sony mount for my a7iv and can't work out what the difference between the standard, Saturn and Venus models are. Could you possibly elaborate for me please?
You might want to check if it is full frame or APS-C which is a smaller mount and if you put a APS-C on a full frame it won't give full coverage however you can still set the camera to APS-C to get it to cover which on the a74 would still look great. Is this what you meant?
Nice, I Iike it very well done.
Thanks!
Im having issues with it reading my Tamron sp 17-50 correctly
Which camera are you using it with?
@@minutesback Sony fx30, and it's been updated to current firmware still won't work
@@paperstacksfilms I’ve heard a lot of good things with that adapter and the FX30. Is it that you mean the adapter is updated or the camera is updated? I personally have kept the firmware of the adapter as I bought it.
@@minutesback I updated the adapter after it was having the issue with the lens. Even with the updated firmware tho it doesn't fix the issue. I've heard good things too but it won't play well this lens and the lens isn't bad cause it works on my canon 90d perfectly, and my canon 18-55 kit lens works on the adapter fine. So it seems to just not play well with my fx30 and the 7artisans adapter
@@paperstacksfilms yeah sorry to hear that, sounds like it’s specific to how that lens works with the adapter. I’ve used tamron 24-70 which works get but I once tested a tamron 100-300 which didn’t work so well for, well at least it worked for about 2 mins and then stopped. Btw, I have a canon 100-300 L 5.6 which on works with a strange kink to it. I put the lens on the adapter, switch the camera on, the lens wont work… but if I then on lock the lens hold and twist if I’m removing but don’t remove but then twist back to lock, it then works fine there after. It’s the only lens that does that, not sure if that will help but thought I’d mention. It’s less than perfect but means I don’t immediately need to buy a 100-300mm.
Sorry to hear about the support issues. I'd recently purchased this adapter as well to provide consistent squeeze on my Sirui Venus 1.6x T/2.9 lenses. Seems like mine is a fantastic version as well.
I have been enjoying the new version but it’s a shame they have had poor support. Also recently they used an image of mine for a commercial campaign without asking and didn’t pay or credit me.
Perfect for the S5II or S5IIX, as the softness will help the almost too sharp image sensor.
MinutesBack : Could please tel me if the Viltrox Adapter EF-NEX IV is usable and compatible with SONY NEX-6 camera?. Thank you.
I’d love to be able to help but not used either of those items. If i ever I’ll come back to inform you. Are you look for photography purposes or video?
@@minutesback for photography purposes.
How often do you use this adapter?
Pretty much whenever I shoot. I have some Sony glass also which I use but whenever I use the A7s3 I always at some point use it.
Does it work with electric contacts ef vintage lenses ie those in the late 70's & 80's.
That’s a good question. The oldest lens I’ve tried is from the 90s I think which works but AF is a little slower. If it is a EF then it could work but if it’s another mount adapted then probably not. Maybe if anyone here has used, they may chime in. Or if you try in future let us know.
@@minutesback Thanks for your reply , i have the 35mm-135 ef lens which gave excellent pictures on the canon eos 620 and if it does work then no need to buy an expensive sony fe zoom lens.
@@patrickhin4301 I’d love to know if you manage to test or buy and use, please return and let us know 👍
@@minutesback For sure
Contacted 7 artisans and told lens has not been tested so don't buy!
I noticed the stack of filters you had between the lens and adapter, does that not act like a macro tube , therefore effecting the focal range and dof? Did you test with and without and get the same results?
I tried various combinations and it was the same I only took photo of what was on at a particular time. I assume you mean step up rings and not filters I didn’t use filters. I only used some diopters and tested with and without. In the end I got them to make me a custom one which is perfect and I really love it. I think Sirui have an early production problem as I’ve had 2 duds from them, both which they have corrected but their marketing team is awful now.

Question, Does the base plate come off? Asking to see if it will interfere with mounting to a camera with a cage on
Good question I don’t it is removable as I generally need to mount on the adapter if on a gimbal but in my cage I don’t think it interferes.
Fantastic video. Curious to see a comparison of ef vs native l mount lenses in regards to AF. I am currently using only ef lenses.
I’ve used native glass but I’d say it more depends on whether the lenses itself is good with AF or sometimes of the adapter works with it. With the 35mm 1.8 and and a 18 2.8 samyang which are native I would say you probably get an extra 10-15 percent from it in fast situations but for a single subject moving or interview it’s perfect professionally usable. The old vintage lenses I have are slower than say my 50 or 85 which are very fast.
Has anyone tried it with ef vintage lenses ?
I’ve used with 80-200 L and 100-300L 5.6 which are pretty old. Do they qualify?
It works with a classic 50mm and 400 5.6 from 1993
Thanks for the video, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on using Canon EF glass with the MC-21. As a hybrid shooter, I feel like the crop in 4K 60p / 50p is a bit of a shame. If I was shooting ONLY video, I would be tempted to just keep the camera in aps-c mode all the time with an aps-c lens on it. Then thrown on a full frame lens whenever I need 6K.
Yeah that crop is a shame but I think if and when they release the s1H mkII they will resolve that however the price point may go up. Still I often find myself thinking about this camera in situations where my Sony taps out.
Does someon have a link to the firmware downloads? I can´t find them anymore on the website, their how-to-video refers to a downloads section which is not on their website anymore...
Stop with the f'd up bg music
I'll be sure to turn up next time 🤣. Seriously though this is a free video but thanks for commenting.
At 7:52, was that shot wide open at 1.8?
Either 1.8 or 2 I believe. With the adapter I sometimes go up to 2.8 but depends on the lens I use.
As far as my experience goes, the multiples idea worked just fine until the Canon Eos5D Mark 3 and 4. With the newest mirrorless sensors (I own a R5) I've been using and testing for pro use in the last 2 yrs, the higher you go, the noisier you get.
The R6 was released the same time as R5 and found the multiple things to still be the same. Are you saying that isn’t the case with your R5?
@@minutesback yep exactly, I’ve tested a few times with different lenses, the last one the day before posting here. Comparing múltiples with non-múltiples above and below
Just picked this up for Sony fx30 here’s my experience: EF 24-70 - AF works like a charm continuous focus and all! Only issue is no IS on this one but it’s a huge issue for me since I have steady hands and can fix in post. EF - 70-200 I (older lens) Continuously AF works for like 5 mins and then just stops working which is weird. I have no aperture control either. However the IS is still available for me. If any one knows a way around the aperture control that’d be great! 50 MM - Everything works great! My aperture only goes to 2.8 instead of 1.8 which is a slight bummer. EF 18-55 - Full function with Continuous AF, IS and Aperture control. AF is a tad bit slower than the other lenses and hunts just a tad depending on distance. All in all the is def the best adapter for EF lens to Sony body if Video focus is a big deal breaker for you. I personally won’t be updating it just because I’ve heard that doing so will make things stop working and customer support is garbage so trying to downgrade the firmware is a pain. Hope this helps someone!
I do wonder if the quality control is an issue with 7 artisans as I’ve never had an issue with iris or AF but have with IS. I think I’ve mentioned in video some of the issues but like yourself I’m still glad for the overall EF usage. I recently used in on a commercial project and it worked great although I did also use some native Sony EF glass also. Thanks so much for sharing your review, I’m sure you’ve helped out a few people for sure!👌
Are those all Canon brand?
@@AE-cu5zy yes
I just received mine, and shot some test shots with my A6400 using my Canon 135L f/2.0, 70-200L IS f2.8, and 17-40L. The test shots are complete garbage. All of the shots are soft, with crazy CA. On the 70-200, it would focus hunt at full zoom. I have to back it off a touch before it would reacquire focus. With the 135L, it would randomly lose connection every 2 -5 shots and give me an error saying that it cant detect the lens. I have to turn the camera off-on. Back to amazon it goes.
How can the 7Artisan produce soft pics, and CA when there no glass in it? Which AF are you using on the adapter Contrast or Phase detect AF? The AF has nothing to do with adapter, it the speed of the AF on the lens being used.
Check the manual, you need to change to phase autofocus. WITHOUT the lens attached and with the camera on, attach the lens WHILE pressing the small button at the adapter. Lens will move and the camera will appear at phase autofocus. The change is amazing. I was furious with the adapter at first until I understood. And yes, CA is not the fault of the adapter.
@@ConcealedWeapon Spot on, It took me quite awhile to work out how to sort it out. Although my Sony A600 sensor has both PDAF and CDAF. It is a CDAF. When I tried the PD it wouldn't work. As you will have found out, The adapter default is set at CDAF. All you have to do to reset, is turn the camera on with the adapter and lens attached. I use it mainly with the brill, and very sharp Cannon 55-250 IS STM lens. Works perfect, but at 250m I do sometimes have to help the AF using the manual focus ring poor contrast light But once locked in at that distance, the AF snaps in instantly
Whats the diferente between this adapter and the mc11 by sigma? Wich one is better?
I’ve not used the mc11 but from I understand it doesn’t give you constant autofocus in video.
@@minutesback Thx for your answer 😃
Hello how are you! very good videos, thanks for the information about this filter... I have a question, can it be used in full frame with a 35mm without setting the camera to super 35?
By filter do you mean adapter? Yes the adapter can be used in full frame. I bought a 35mm full frame and added it on, I have some examples in the previous video I did on my channel about the adapter.
thus it crops sony fullframe like the the metabones converters
What do you mean? It does not crop? Have you tried it?
Thi one doesn't crop, just adapts and that's it
So I'm a bit confused... Why is it that the adapter would have anything to do with face detection? That's the camera software, not the lens. Or atleast that's my understanding: The lens focuses light on the sensor, and so long as the image is clear enough for the software in the camera to make out the image, then the camera software should just work, no? Can anyone explain why so many claim face detection and other autofocus features don't work on all adapters?
I good question, I don't I can understand why this adapter works with the camera to provide eye autofocus that works and others don't but within video I've never heard or seen another adapter actually give better autofocus with EF glass on E. Obviously you need a camera that does eye autofocus so if you have a old camera that doesn't have it, it won't add it.
What happens is that as many brands, Sony reserves some function to work with their own lenses, so the adapters need to trick the camera and not all can.
Paint the inside barrel of this adapter with flat black paint. That will eliminate all the reflectivity and flare up issues.
I might worries that it would chip away or fall onto the sensor over time. Would that happen?
@@minutesback I doubt it. Clean it with alcohol first, spray it lightly with flat black paint after taping the other parts off and you're good. Check it every year or so perhaps.
On my Sony A7 (Ilce-70) with the Canon EF 70-200mm F4 IS USM lens, I have no problems with the autofocus worth mentioning. But IS behave in strange ways. I.e IS starts when I turn on the camera. Then may suddenly stop when I use the auto focus. And I have to turn on and off the camera to make it work again. In P-mode it starts when you press the shutter button or the back focus button, as it should. But it also start if you press the center button. I only use this camera for stills, so have not tested much with filming.
Thanks for the update and the issue you’ve noted 👍
I found some more weird behaviour on the IS. This time in M-mode. IS is supposed to start when you half press the shutter button or pressed the back button focus button. . But it does not. Instead it starts AFTER you have pressed the shutter button, and keeps "rolling". Sp to make IS work you have to first take a picture, and then keep pressing the back button focus button, while taking pictures, This will keep the IS rolling. To make it stop, refocus by letting go of the Back focus button and press it again.... Well, at least that is a somewhat doable work around, if quirky....
Took the lesn on an off, and now IS suddenly works flawlessly, as intended by canon. I .e kicks in on half press of shutter, or back button focus. ???
@@PhotographyByRune tbh I’m a video only when I’m on my Sony. I mainly use the AF side of the adapter as I only have 1 IS lens which works OK but I have read varying degrees of use from comments on IS. They defo could improve firmware for IS although I think I mentioned in my second review that just have the AF is a big win for EF glass usage. But here’s hoping they solve the Is.
@@minutesback lets hope they do. I plan to aquire an EF 24-105mm f4 IS, that is a lens that will be my walkaround lens, so much more hand held phtography. So IS is going to be needed. But now I am more in doubt. I do own a Sony 24-70 F4 Zeiss, but not impressed by the sharpness. But cant afford sony glass, and with EF lenses beeing flogged off cheap by all the photographers switching to RF lenses is good opportunity to aquire some pro lenses' And this adapter makes that viable
I just got my adapter and I am one happy camper! The Sony's I have is the ancient Sony A7 (Mark 1), and the Sony A5100, and the only canon glass I still have is the EF 70-200mm F4 IS USM, and the EFS 18-135mm F3.5-5.8 IS STM. And I can confirm that this adapter works incredibly well with both cameras and lenses. IS, and AF works very well, and the on the A5100 face detection focus also works without problems. Wich means this will also work for the older generation Sony mirorless cameras 😀
Thanks so much for letting people know I’m sure someone will be helped by the fact you took the time to let us know 👍

Which camera are you using. Btw thanks for helping people by posting the lens and the usage.
I have a Sony a6400. I was playing with it for only 10 minutes but I'm happy so far.
One of the best real world reviews. Cheers! mate. We need more of these I'll say.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🎉
So the Metabones, the sigma MC11 don't work with video. But the 7 ARTI -SANS does - Is there a list of Canon glass out there that it works with? Looking at a Sony A7R2 with Canon EF 100-400 USM for wildlife video.
This isn’t a list from 7 Artisans that I’ve see. Although would be very interested to see. Several people have added lenses that work with their camera bodies and or issues with lenses across both of my videos if you search the comments. I do wish 7Artisans would create a list 😇
has anyone tried the 55-250 efs lens with this adapter?
I have but I have tried. 100-300 EF. Something worth noting if you try is that it had a little weirdness about using it. On first connection it doesn’t work but then when you rotate the connection to remove but don’t and the reconnect it then worked fine. Only lenses that did that. Just a note for you or anyone who tries.
Great video, I’m a bit confused though because I’ve never used Mac in my life but I want to edit videos and create. Someone mentioned Apples’s FCP editing software. Would you recommend getting a MacBook or other recommendations?
I would recommend the MacBook m3 or M1 second hand for example but if you’re just editing the pc laptops I’m sure will also do the trick. Because I do After Effects work and 3D I need a high end machine either pc or mac. Software wise unless I had to use premiere pro I wouldn’t want to as the price is just too much. Resolve is way better.
7Artisans is killing it!
How secure/tight is the physical connection between this adapter and lens and adapter and camera body? Does it have looseness?
I’ve found it secure, not had any issues. I’ve added up to a 70-200 which heavy although I normally hold it support the lens.
@@minutesback Thank you!
Really helpfull, thanks
Which laptop or system do you use or thinking about? Thanks for watching 🎉
Love the footage, but could barely hear you over the music
Sorry, probably best the watch rather hear me anyways on this one 😇. But will mix voice and bit higher 👍 on next one.
