Engineer Mickey Runs Four Trains for Last Time on Rug Layout
Engineer Mickey (Mouse) oversees the last time he'll run trains on the four-oval rug layout that has been his kingdom. There are two MTH year 2000 Millennium gold-plated trains, and Amtrak Auto Train, and a Weirton Steel train put together with custom cars by Pat's Trains of West Virginia. The freight is in honor of my grandfather and great-grandfather who ran the Phelps Can Company which used tin plate from Weirton Steel. At the end, the Millennium GG-1 gold passenger train closes out the run for this layout as we prepare to switch homes. Mickey and his trains will be back someday!

All these years later, glad you liked it! Was on my own after visiting colleges with our son. They flew out, I took the auto train home the next day. So I was at the Magic Kingdom to catch the parade and it was really uncrowded. That let me film from this unusual angle.

Thanks, and you're welcome! We moved some furniture out and that created a big rectangle. Used layout planning software in advance to be able to run four trains at once, kept the elevated loop from before. I agree about building tables - a lot of work or money or both! I've got some spurs planned but not feeling like I need them yet.
Forgot to say, the hardest part was finding the right TV stand that could act like a tunnel for the outer line.

Thanks. This is the first real train video I'd taken in a couple of years. It's a good way to test new camcorders. Brunswick is a good site for catching the Capitol Limited twice a day and freight trains generally if you're patient. I think I filmed four freights there one afternoon. But it's hot in the summer!

Thanks, me too. The Alco PA Gold Bonnet is a very nice engine and looks good with the PRR gold-plated passenger cars. But it's not the engine that belongs with them. That's a gold-plated RailKing GG-1. It was out of action when I took this video. There are earlier videos I posted that show that engine with its cars. But the gold Hudson is a work of art due to the beauty of the actual engine coupled with the plating.
The GG-1 was repaired and I just posted a video of the two Millennium trains together for the first time. The GG-1 isn't scale and looks a bit short from the right angle. But if you photograph it from the front at an angle, it's beautiful. That said, with both on hand together, the Hudson is just so intricate...

The 360 video i posted a few weeks ago will be the last for that layout. My wife wanted some furniture gone from the room with the trains, and that creates a space for a 22' by 8' replacement rug layout. Still four ovals, but two of them much longer and with 72" and 54" radii respectively. It will take a while to set it up and it will still be a simple rug layout. But it should produce some nice combos of four trains running at once, including the two MTH year 2000 gold-plated sets.

Yes, Pat's Trains. Weirton Steel was an important West Virginia company in the 1900s. They supplied all the tinplate for the Phelps Can Company plant in Weirton run by my grandfather. So having a Weirton Steel train on my layout honors that relationship.

How do you export the footage from this camera in side by side format?
Honestly, it has been so long since I used the 3D camcorder that I don't know the steps. But I think it was simply configuring Corel VideoStudio for that specific output format given the standard Sony 3D recording format.

Thanks. This engine had been out of order for a looooooooong time. I seem to remember it shorting out not long after we got it. It was fun to get in repaired and back into action two decades after it was made.

Thanks! I've since gotten more floor space in the same area and replaced this layout. The multicam editing was a little difficult because the source videos weren't all the same resolution. But I may try this again with the newer layout because it's hard to film all at once without using a 360 camcorder.
