Enjoying the Ride
I am always looking to maximize performance and fun while on the mountain. I have dedicated much of my life to the sport as an amateur mogul competitor, pro mogul competitor, Warren Miller and other ski movie athlete, ski coach and recently Freeride Qualifier Tour athlete. All of these aspects of skiing have helped me develop as a skier. However, at the end of the day my biggest goal for skiing is to enjoy powder days and big adventures in the mountains with like minded individuals. I welcome you to ride along with me and share in all the mountains have to offer.

This is a classic Alaskan Ski Line used in many TGR Movies. It’s really long and has a bunch of steep spines on it, a classic ski descent for a reason.

just a Lil sluff...
Careful !!
Gotta love some chugach 😊 where were you skiing out of?
Def love the place, flying out of Valdez with Alaska Backcountry Guides 🙌🤙
@@kurtschmid Awesome. I've been riding out of Valdez for 30 years now and finally picked up a few acres in Thompson pass a couple years back.
@Pals777 that is awesome man, such an awe inspiring zone of endless adventure! Good for you on T Pass, that is world class access🙌 🤙
😮 careful 😅
just a wee bit of slough.
Haha! It went 0 to 60 pretty quickly 🫣
That’s very dangerous I’m a skier and this can be really bad if it gets worse
Yes sir, have to manage slough a lot in Alaska.
Great tune! Best lyrics ever: “Spap spa da dap pap spa spa Spap spa da dap pap”
Pulse!!
Skied right past my place on Sunrise…. ✌️ Growler next door has a few nasty sections. But lower Ovations has a nice steep 200 yard drop at the bottom…. See ya all in late November! I’ll be on the 100 day club next season.
Lower O def a good zone🤙
Love Mississippi Ave....Devils Den AKA Bears Ass needs a shit ton of snow
You caught it with decent snow. Try it again with less. We found it un-navigable and a pain in the a##.
Yeah, was decent snow when I was there for this vid, I’ve skied it a few times before over the years and it’s always pretty much survival skiing! 😆
Awesome! What camera did you use? Looks great in that light.
Thanks man 🙏 I had my GoPro and a buddy filmed using his camera waaaaaay down at the helicopter.
The glade trails on that side of the mountain are really treacherous honestly. Lots of bushwacking. The ones mid mountain are much better for getting a nice line. Im a personal fan of the three trails where Anarchy is
Yeah dude, they are pretty hard scrabble for sure, my favorite for flow are Big Dipper Woods.
That's the original entrance to Devil's Den. At some point they moved the entrance down to avoid the cliffs on the upper section. The lower portion is fine.
@collinparsons3363 Yeah I only got to experience that side of the mountain at the end of the season this year after one of their last big storms. The bear mountain lift is always closed when I go. Terrain just seemed to have much more stumps and shrubs than other trails on the mountain. I think they also get a lot of afternoon sun so maybe they just got beat up a little.
@collinparsons3363 I haven’t used the lower entrance, the top entrance is kinda what makes it “Devil’s Den”.
Epicness!!
Yeah man, pretty awesome zone up there!
That looked so fun. At what time of the year was this?
Yeah man, always fun taking a run on the VB🤙. This was mid April right after a storm system cleared out leaving some fresh pow.
Nice and with Vaughn Benjamin guiding the way!
🤙🤙
If you're paying to get a heli ride up - why do you pick such a chewed up / icy line to go down?
So, good question. It is late April, hasn’t snowed in 11 days, only high north facing hold good powder (down low corn on the runouts). We go looking for the rad terrain with good snow and sometimes you get on it and it’s not soft, other times it’s blissful. I will be dropping some more vids with outrageously good skiing. That being said, I loved skiing the Tiger line, just demanded attention. 🤙
nice vid! What length do you ski on these? And have you tried up or down a length for comparison? (I'm 5'10" 155lb so I'm thinking the 182cm for me.) Again nice turns in this video! Hey I just saw your first vid, 188cm for you!
Thanks man 🙏 glad you dig the vid. I would say you could go with the 188 if you are skiing more open zones with wider turn space, but if it’s tight and you need to get them around quicker then the 182, theses boards are definitely confidence inspiring and user friendly. Let me know what you end up choosing 🤙
@@kurtschmid I'll let you know!
nice run!
Thanks man🙏🤙
What Black Crows ski is that?
Older BC Orbs, one of my favorite shapes, probably about 4 years old.
Nice line bro.
Thanks 🙏
I will be going to Killington for the first time in 2 days. How can I get to this?
Nice, head over to the Canyon Quad Chair; the steep zone is in the woods to the right of the lift as you ride up it, 1/3 of the way up.
@@kurtschmid Thx! I am gonna check it out!
Great skiing
Thanks man!! Was hardscrabble in there😂
Gnarly shit for sure. How are you liking the BC Atris vs those Countach 110s you were on for steeper shtuff like this?
The Atris are really friendly and easy to ski in this kind of terrain; really easy to maneuver and get around, they don’t want to go as fast or send as much as the Countach but are really ideal for poking around in the steeps/billy goat zones. 🤙🤙
That Schmid Spin move is gnarly 😳
Haha if you are ever up in that zone try it, works nicely in that spot! 😊🤙
Keep trying
Nice. You're very fast.maybe it's dangerous . Be careful Host Watching here. New friend.
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast 🤙
Going "Richter" on earthquake dome.
Going "Richter" at Earthquake dome!! Looks real nice.
@mattstelck1138 haha!! Was a nice Chao of pace from the lifts but Mammoth skiing really nice again 👍
what a sick review! im demoing the countach rn but im wondering how they compare to the deathwish, going for a new daily for next season
Thanks man, glad you like it. I think the DW is going to have a bit more charge in it and a little less surf. I really like the C110 because you can switch gears between straight lining and schmoo turning. All that being said either or is going to rock as daily drivers. 💪🤙
I was just there today reminiscing about snowboarding it in 98 with my dog. Finished up the day with a Bachar boulder session. Those are the days i really miss now that i live in Oceanside
Nice man, good memories on repeat! 🤙Hope you get back there and make some more. I haven’t skied that zone yet this winter, should be coming around soon. ⛷️
Great video! Kurt, how do i invite you to review our brand ski goggles?
Hi, I will do you on IG to discuss. 👍
Great videos! Makes you feel like you’re really there, even when you can’t be… keep them coming!🤙
Thanks man! 🙏 as long as there’s something to slide down I’ll try to capture it on vid; the good the bad and the ugly. 😆🤙
Your junk snow is like a dream day at the local hill. Its 70+ in PA rn so enjoy that shit. Were down to 50 day seasons now!!!
Laughing, I feel you man! I have spent the better part of last 20 seasons on the east coast, I think Mammoth is making me soft! 😁
was contemplating this very reply before I scrolled down. cheers from upstate NY. 😆
Skis look a little wide for the hard pack
Cheers mate! It’s only up from here! 😄🤙
Yeah for sure, going to line up a proper set up for days like these, stay tuned. ⛷️
Finding pockets of wind buff yummy goodness!!
Like surfing, only takes 1 or 2 turns to make a sesh! 🤙
I always loved chair 22!!!
Totally, a mini KT22 👍
Sure looks steeper this year with half the snow pack as last year. POV from the helmet cam turns the stomach at the top of Phillipes!! Nicely done. Got to add these tunes to my playlist!
Thanks! 🙏Yeah, the snow level is enough to cover major shark teeth but still keep the mountain steep, fun and full of features 👍 Burning Spear Live in Paris…one of the best reggae records imo 🎼🤙
*Promo SM* 🤘
Feelin the Steel Pulse in the chutes!!! 🤙🤠😎
Laughing! 💯 for sure! 😁🤙
Cool video. Thanks for sharing, I was stood on the top of Mount Blanc a few weeks ago and I was wondering where the skiers were disappearing too. Would love to give this route a go some day. More practice and ski holidays needed first though. Peace ✌️
Thanks! 🙏That is.awesome you were on top of Mt Blanc, how was this adventure? Get those ski skills sharpened a little and then you should definitely do the Valle Blanche, truly a classic.
Music ruined everything
Sorry bruh this is a Rasta infused channel 🎼
Julio is hardest for sure
I will try to make a vid of that zone, check this zone if you haven’t skied it yet; czcams.com/video/AzahLF8iakA/video.htmlsi=esdWueQkSQExWsdp
I know that zone
If you know you know bro👍
Youre flowing like a water animal man. Super awesome !
Thanks man 🙏 snow pretty awesome, easy to let it ride⛷️
dude hell yeah
Sweet tree run! How do you keep either ski from getting sucked into the creek?
Thanks man🙏 the creek has snow covered rocks that are almost like powder moguls so just have to make sure not to “spear” them and feels kinda like a soft mini pillow line. 🤙
And sorry, what's the name of that song?
Ive listened to a bit of Burning Spear but didn't know this song. Kinda like it! Nice, i wish i was out on that right now!! 🤙
Yeah man! Burning Spear is one of my favorites period. I saw him last year and at 81 he was killing it and sounded exactly like this album, which is iconic; Live in Paris 👍tune is “We are Going” enjoy 🤙
Yo, thanks man! 🤙 As a teen in the early 90s, early reggae bands shaped my philosophies on life. Burning spear then was like classic rock. Loved its history. Keep floating out there man! Looks like some great conditions coming your way!!
@craigversheck7835 yeah man! I’m a Gen Xer too 👍Reggae Sunsplash was my first show and as you said shaped the path.
@@kurtschmid We were lucky enough to hear the messages man! I got a son coming of age, hope he gets the message❤
I have no doubt the message has been properly passed! ✊
If only June would replace J1 with a high speed quad. The lower part of the mountain, which is so great on powder days, is essentially un-skiable unless you have incredible patience....
Yeah, it’s old school, but I’m in the camp that says keep it slow and chill, plenty of snatch and grab pow craziness after each storm at Mammoth.
When are you grabbing the nocta over the countach?
Yeah, great question! The Nocta are really playful, surfy and super maneuverable, so great for trees, pow, and easy shredding. The Countach 110 have a bigger range and WAY more horsepower but at the same time are surfy and fun. So, if I’m on steeper terrain, wanna go fast, want to drop cliffs and straight run landing…basically turn up the volume then it’s the Countach, lower angle pow shredding then Nocta. Hope this makes sense 🤙
@@kurtschmid gotcha, I ski the nocta in VT lol, people are always asking why I'm on a 120 there but it is an insanely good low angle tree ski. Looking to get countach for bringing one ski out west on trips.
@H0lyH0g nice move, I can definitely see the Nocta being great in the trees back east! The Forerunner in Killington is carrying Moment and has some Countach 110 for demo, check ‘em out! 🤙
dream lines!!
Awesome videos. Some people just want to watch sick mammoth lines all day!
Haha! Thanks man🙏 I’m with you, Mammoth a giant playground for sending!! 🤙
how long did it take to ski it all?
The first lap (the one I filmed) was about 30 minutes as we had to stop and assess crevasse zones, etc…the second lap was pretty non-stop and took 15 minutes.
