Cobra Fortis 14E - Is it worth it?
The Cobra Fortis 14E is now available with ego battery Power Pack. It joins the line up alongside the Allett Cambridge and Allett Sterling in the all electric lithium ion battery powered lawn mowers. Not only that, it is a cylinder mower meaning you will get the best lawn stripes possible without any of the noise pollution.
But should Cobra have turned their flagship Cobra Fortis into a battery model? Available in the Cobra Fortis 14 inch and the Cobra Fortis 17 inch you have the choice of two different sizes. The ego battery is a 56 Volt 2.5 ampere battery, but you can upgrade this to a 10 ampere or even 12 ampere if you go directly to ego.
The Cobra Fortis is a solid, heavy machine built to last but just without some of the bells and whistles you might find on some of its more expensive competitors. Coming in at just over £1000 for the Cobra Fortis 14E it is one of the best value battery powered cylinder lawn mowers available on the market today.
Easy to adjust the height, super quiet and with a fantastic quality of cut, the Cobra Fortis 14E is a great lawn mower for gardens up to 200 square metres. If you have a bigger lawn you may want to purchase the Cobra Fortis 17E just to give you a little bit more width to make the job a little faster.
With the ability to change a cassettes you can use the Cobra Fortis to scarify, rake, verticut, brush and aerate. But the Cobra Fortis is more than just a lawn mower, it's your lawn maintenance machine.
How does the Cobra Fortis stack up against the Allett Cambridge and Allett Sterling? Well the most obvious difference is the time it takes to change the cartridges. If you want to change the six blade cutting cylinder for the verticutting cylinder, the Cobra Fortis will take you 2 to 3 minutes to achieve that. It's a fairly complex process first time you do it, but like anything practise makes perfect and you'll soon be changing cylinders in your brand new Cobra Fortis in a minute.
Cobra renowned for the quality of their rotary lawn mowers, specially those rotary lawnmowers with the roller on the back, but now they're branching out into the fine turf cylinder lawn mower.
This model extends up to a 25 inch wide option perfect for amateur sports clubs, especially with all the changes in cassettes. Built to last, mostly from metal, with very little plastic not only is this machine good value, it offers longevity.
One of the best features of the Cobra Fortis is the LCD dashboard that shows you the battery power, with a really smart throttle control. Check out this video to see what we think of the brand new Cobra Fortis and whether this lawn mower is right for you.
Is this the best battery cylinder lawn mower on the market? Is this the best value battery cylinder lawn mower on the market? Watch our video and find out.

      The cylinder mower is the Allett Stirling, the rotary mower is the Cobra RM40. Both brilliant mowers, but the Stirling is high end for home lawns, around £4000 depending on which model and attachments. The Cobra is around £400 if I remember right, it's a beauty. There are many misconceptions on how NPK fertilisers work. Phosphorus for instance does promote root development but only if deficient. Most soils have enough of this element. Potassium too does help to a degree in disease resistance and is a coenzyme involved in many reactions. It also helps regulation of water use by opening and closing of the stomata. Applying more doesn’t mean more disease resilience. Again if the soil is deficient then applying Potassium will be beneficial but once adequate no positive plant response will be seen.

This video is clearly not aimed at teaching well-practiced folk on what they are doing wrong or how they could be doing it, but rather help to educate those that have never done it before. Everyone has the method that works for them, and some don't have a starting point at all. @@MowdLtd Im sorry for the mean words and the paragraph of text. here is what you could do. when the bag is in the air its choppy so film multiple cuts of the bag going up and falling and then choose one where it lands on its side. Then you could place markers on each corner of the bag and line up where the what I assume is a mower. Have one cut where you change the cylinder and one still image with the bag on in the same location. In the cut you change the cylinder try to throw the bag roughly where it was in one of the air. Then you can have the top half switch between the cut where you do everything and the one where you just throw. At the end move out of the way of the mower and “rotoscope” the falling bag and when i looks like its in front of the remove the bag and layer on the still image. You say that this mower takes all of the Allett RC cassettes, but the RC cassette range, as far as I can see, is specifically for the Cambridge mower. Most users of Allett or Atco petrol mowers will have QC cassettes, which won't be suitable for the Cambridge mower without some conversion.

    I use that same aerator here in Tassie, Australia on a 300 sqm yard. Been using it for years and it's the most sold manual aerator in the world! Anyway, you were using it wrong. Place your foot on the TOP angle and press down. Then the core would come out.

      I find it works perfectly well and has the added bonus of being really cheap and accessible! Thanks for the advice! I usually do it that way and have the cores come out - obviously not concentrating this time 🤣

    Great video, amateur question: What height/depth do you scarify/aerate with on this machine? I really don't have any idea what settings you need..

    • @MowdLtd
      @MowdLtd Před 5 měsíci

      Hi Josh, great question, and it depends on your lawn. I would follow these steps to find the right height: • start on -3 and run it for 3/4 metres. • take a look to see if you are removing enough thatch (can you see the soil) • if not lower it further and repeat • if you are going for a good scarify as part of a lawn renovation, you should be able to see lines in the soil. One thing to be weary of electric scarifiers is the tenancy for the motor to bog down if it's working too hard, but you will hear that! If you scarify too lightly, it's really not a problem. Just assess the ground (if it's still spongy, go again but lower!) Hope this helps, I'll do another video on this in a few weeks when I will be doing some lawn renovations!

      @@MowdLtdThankyou for the reply! I think it would make a great video actually going through how to do it. - I can make a mess of my lawn with the aerator alone, although it's common sense to you, I have no idea what I'm aiming for, and I know people I've spoken to are often confused as well. "Do you need to scarify or aerate. How deep do you go. What should it look like." Are the sort of Qs I'd love to see answered!

    That aerator is not fun nor easy and is cheap and it compresses. Use a real one that gets plugs out.

    • @MowdLtd
      @MowdLtd Před 5 měsíci

      It is definitely at the lower end of the budget but does a job comparable to its cost. I much prefer a hollow tine machine - but some of our customers just need other options! What have you got? Do you have another version of a manual aerator? It does remove decent cores if you get the ground in the right conditions, the cores are testament to that

    • @AnthonyPerez
      @AnthonyPerez Před 5 měsíci

      @@MowdLtd nope there is no other manual way. I use a machine. You can rent or have a local guy come do it. I’m glad you touched up on this. You could get a single core which I think they call a sampler. I think that would work better for cores. These would work if they made them out of stainless steel and had a sharp edge on them. Most of the time these foot ones are not a big enough diameter in the holes or sharp. Most times it doesn’t work is all. Compacted ground is never brought up at all. Also a good test of your soil so you could add the proper amounts of amendments to your yard. Grass will be growing so much you’ll want to take it out. lol

    • @MowdLtd
      @MowdLtd Před 5 měsíci

      Machines are the best way for sure (more satisfying too - boys and their toys!). I usually rent mine - in fact tis year a few of us on the same street are splitting the cost of it, great way to do it, and the hire company are delivering it too! This is just an option for those who don't have the time/inclination/budget for the hollow tine aerator - I also think there's a place for solid tine aeration too - but that will be another video! But i will admit, this tool was ok in my opinion, it produced lots of cores, albeit not as wide as a machine!
