Both my 45's... stock ignition.... I do the " old school " dance... choke... 3 kicks, advance... key on... 99% of the time... even over winter clumber... first kick..runner. I have no problems with the points... let's face it... ran on points for 80 years... remember the army manual said these were only designed to last about...5 years.... 😎

I'm currently running a Mallory 12 volt electronic distributor on my 49 Panhead. I have to prime it four kicks when it's totally cold with the choke on all the way, so you're basically flooding it. Then I set the choke one click from completely open turn the key on kick it over usually starts right up one kick. When it's hot, no choke one kick over then turn on the ignition one two kicks it runs. I kept the original distributor just in case.

I have that style if ignition on my 45. A Samwell unit with various advance curves. As the 45 is manual advance it's set to 0 and other than a bit of retardation at low rpm (kick) speed, its a static timing. It works very well for me. They say points are easier to sort, but are more likely to put you at the side of the road in the first place!

No need to measure twice or mess about with set squares, simply run the ruler down to the widest point then half it......easy?

Using the ruler make one line, as long as possible. Take the measurement and divide it in two. Mark the center of the line which is the center of your circle. This method is more accurate and simpler.

Doesn't matter if the lines are the same length.

Old school is always best.

Using a rule it's easy to find the diameter (widest line across the circle). Divide the length of the line by two and mark that point on the line and voila you've found the centre without the need of a set-square. Far easier than the method shown here.

Lines can be any length as long as the ends land on the circle. You just draw right angles from the center of the lines
