@@kidddogbites yes that is the exhaust that I had on my 459, bolts right up but it’s clocked up different. I plan on cutting and re welding it so it sits like it did on the 459
@@Bigtommyboy6996 Think the 459 exhaust loop from mudskipper will fit? Just picked up a 500cc for my boat
@@kidddogbites it will bolt up but the loop will be offset differently. Just a heads up make sure u add some extra bracing to those long exhaust pipes cause they will crack or wear out the gasket from all the vibration. I ran a loop for alittle while and had to re weld it 4 times and added 2 different extra braces and it still broke so I just ditched it and went to this style of pipe. Haven’t had any issues out of this one
@Bigtommyboy6996 I run a Robertson Torque Tube on my Wildcat 223 on my 12ft. Just picked up a 14ft so im doing the bigblock route, and i liked this 500cc . You still running the governor or no?

I'm torn between the mud skipper surface drive kit, or a swamp runner long tail. Sense you have/had both, which kit would you say is better?
@@jerinsavoie1248 I have both, my predator 459 is on the swamp runner now. Honestly… it really depends on what your doing, i like to do more cruising and occasionally mud bog or go in the swamp so overall I prefer the surface drive. The long tail is better for like really challenging stuff, I can get in and through some rough places with the long tail that the surface drive would have a tough time in. But the long tail is also more difficult to drive and run, I added planing tabs to the skeg and it helped tremendously but it’s still more difficult to run and especially maneuver in tight spots. Cost is another thing, the swamp runner was like $600 shipped to my door (without engine) and the mud skipper was alittle over $2,000 without engine. The feather light is about half the price of the sport kit I have.
@@Bigtommyboy6996 Have you had any problems with the Mud Skipper? I don't know if i can trust the kit sense there aren't many people talking about them. Id hate to be hunting 10 miles into marsh just for the kit to break. And the swamp runners seem a little slower but bulletproof.
@@jerinsavoie1248 the biggest issue I’ve had so far is the clutch.. I saw not long ago on a couple of the forum pages that the centrifugal clutches they use aren’t all that great, I just ran a couple screws in between the 2 parts to make it direct drive cause i was out pretty far and it started slipping
What carb and aftermarket air filter and adapter do you have on it? Just got the same setup and want to try and squeeze out 30 mph
@@RJOFFROAD so the adapter is for a predator 420/459, there the same as the 500s. The carb is a pwk 34mm, and the air filter is a uni 63mm but I found a rubber adapter I had laying around my shed to go from the 55mm carb to the filter

@@isma7617 might have to drill a small hole in the gas cap. Mine was doing that when I first got it n I tried taking the gas cap loose n it solved it. Meaning it’s not venting properly

How do you like that motor? I can’t decide between a 420 or a 459 for my swamp runner 1436
Buy the biggest motor you can fit/afford for these kits. You want as much torque and power as you can get. Being able to hit the gas and really spin that prop in super thick weeds/mud will come in handy. I have seen guys buy smaller engines for less weight and watched them struggle in thick stuff. I myself have a 22hp predator on a 14ft boat. I think it's a little overpowered as full throttle can get a little unstable. But it doesn't matter how nasty or thick it gets, I can muscle through it. Even with a full load of camping gear and 2 people, it has no issues.

What stage one kit did you use the only ones I can find are for the 420
@@tylerbrown6819 yea the 420 kits work for the 459, there isn’t a specific kit to use. I just got the filter and adapter with a different main jet.

I’m not 100% sure cause I didn’t have a speedometer app on my phone and I’m still playing with prop sizes and aftermarket carbs. I’ll see if I can get a answer later todsy

Amazon, it’s actually for a ranger. I just made it work and wired it into the brake light switch cause this is a 93 so it didn’t have a third brake light up there from factory

How’d you set up your throttle? Direct to governor arm?
Governor is deleted, I cut the rod down that goes to the throttle body and just used a cable stopper to attach it to the throttle cable

1542 and I don’t remember top speeds with this long tail. I’m running a surface drive now on the same engine. But if I had to guess it’s probably somewhere around 20 to 21 mph

Do you like the mudskipper better than the longtail? Big speed difference? Better performance getting off of mud and sand? And is that a 1436? Sorry for the questions I just got a 1436 and a 459 and we’re trying to decide whether to build a longtail kit or a surface drive for it.
Yes, I wish I would’ve just went straight to a surface drive instead of a long tail. Huge speed difference and way easier to handle. I haven’t put it through any swamp or shallow water yet. And no this is a 1540.

@@christaylor4161 this thing seems to be pretty well built. I feel like there’s some things that could’ve been designed a little better. I’ll know how it really does once I start running it a lot more when summertime rolls around how durable it is .

Why not through the low oil sensor wire?
Tried that and couldn’t get it to shut off, I’ve got this engine on a mud skipper surface drive now and I hooked it to the low oil sensor and same thing, it won’t kill it
