    I noted all the practical advantages of the telescope over the expensive Canon lens, but an interesting comparison for me would be to compare the Spacecat with a zoom lens of a more similar price, say the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3, which I have seen is a popular lens to use for astrophotography. I suppose I would expect the Spacecat to be better image quality but it would be nice to see how much better.

    I went to a dark sky site in Tenerife national park for the lunar eclipse a few years ago. It was incredible. As the Moon moved into eclipse it no longer bleached the sky, and revealed the Milky Way. Seeing the Moon in eclipse, next to the Milky way, while standing within the desert caldera of a massive volcano was something I will never forget.

    it would be interesting to use a Nikon camera or a Sony one juste cause their sensors are that much better in terms of dynamic range and overall sharpness ! A nikon d810 for example actually avoid sony cameras cause i just remember that they are dubbed the Star Eaters du to their heavy noise reduction even in Raw

    Yes, I KNOW the teaser said it was the "Dwarf 3," but please note that that was a fabrication. The Dwarf 3 does exist, BUT IT ISN'T BEING SOLD BECAUSE IT CAN'T SHIP BEFORE SEPTEMBER. I know because I've paid for one, and know the story. It is more capable by a bit, than the Dwarf II, so your results will be slightly better. Also, they look slightly different as well.

And what would be the good filters that I should get to complete my kit? Thanks Benoit

  • @DanWipper
    @DanWipper Před 3 dny

    Small object, big scope and a reducer? I can see the benefit of a small sensor but not the reducer, guessing you didn't have the 1x flattener? At 1x you could have used a larger sensor and had about the same size image, maybe a better image if you can track it well. Using the reducer would be a better question.

    Nice video. After you polar align then turn on live view on the DSLR, should Polaris be in the center of the live view screen or off center according to the position in the app? Thanx for the info.

    • @NebulaPhotos
      @NebulaPhotos Před 4 dny

      It will be slightly off-center but not in the position according to the app, because for that to work you have to take into account field rotation of the camera sensor vis a vis the rotation of the reticule. So the app really should just be where on the circle, Polaris should be in the polar scope not the camera screen.

    I've been easing my way back in after a long time away (Nikon F3 and early digital days) and all your stuff has been super helpful. I've tried this and it didn't turn out half bad considering everything that didn't go right. (Bahtinov mask went from IN to CA on its way to NH. Interval code on my OM-1 is bugged at exposure times > 1 sec. All about normal for having fun with AP!) The combination of reviews and tutorials is just great. And you've convinced me to take it slow. I think I know what gear I want, but the camera and tripod are great for now. In the meantime, I need to head over to Patreon! All the best!

    Hi Nico, thanks for a great tutorial. I'm still feeling my way around Siril. Just a quick question or thoughts - the background extraction. Would it be easier to do the extraction after the the Star Removal or is the background extraction affected by having the start in place?

    • @NebulaPhotos
      @NebulaPhotos Před 4 dny

      The star removal process makes the image pseudo-linear because it applies a stretch for Starnet to work. Background removal should be done first thing before any stretching of the image data is done so I don’t recommend Starnet before background extraction.
