You have to love how Lower Decks manages to fit the live-action crew members in as overly exaggerated cartoon characters, yet at the same time manage to make them so recognizable in their attitudes that there's no doubt in your mind who they are.

Nah, this show is a celebration of Trek. It's okay to be silly and have fun. Lower Decks is like a wonderful mashup of Futurama + Star Trek with some clever writing and heart like The Simpsons had during its golden years. Try watching "Wej Duj" from the second season. That's the episode which sold me on the show. The creators behind Lower Decks really love and understand Trek. And they're hilarious and free-spirited too. :-)

Working in retail makes me yearn for this kind of intense massage. The stupid amount of strain at times makes me feel like a starship captain, with none of the benefits.
Oh I can truly relate. 30 + years of retail work took a toll on my body and emotions. A good run on a treadmill sure helps get rid of , at least, the built up tension from dealing with rude, inconsiderate idiots all day.

I think that the point of the speech is more about how war changes people even if it's not physically people come home broken and as far as ferengi be concerned they are no different but the message is the same

I've always hated this stupid speech. He's describing circumstances under which ANY intelligent life ESPECIALLY FERENGI would revert to a survival mode. Like his people are above acting poorly? Has anybody SEEN any of the episodes of TNG that involved them? Gimmie a break.

I think what he's getting at is the magnitude of the shift, in humans. Most other species are in a kind of middle-ground at all times, in terms of being "nice" versus being "assholes". Humans try to be one way, exclusively. We "want" to be "good" the majority of the time. Even Vulcans don't really try to be explicitly good the majority of the time. They try to be balanced, and they and the Andorians and Tellarites are generally what keeps Human idealism grounded in reality (from an in-universe perspective, anyway). But humans strive to reach that paradise...utopia. We believe we can be better, and we try to be (again, in-universe). So when a Klingon, or a Cardassian, or Romulan, or any other species winds up in this kind of situation for a long period, sure they get "worse," but the shift is relatively minor. But when it's Humans, that shift is dramatic and extreme. Any others are like a stray dog going to a MEAN stray dog. But with humans...it's like going from Beethoven to Cujo. Even among the more warlike species in Star Trek, Human history has a special proclivity for violence. We, like the Vulcans in particular, managed to overcome that...though by different means. But in universes where that wasn't the case, we also still didn't destroy ourselves like the Vulcans nearly did. And the result is that we wind up driving every other species to extinction and conquering most of the galaxy. Now, it's all just fictional bullshit for jacking off the human ego...but even so, we ARE especially dangerous as a species. We're currently alone in the universe, as the first-ones, but it's highly probable that those who develop after us will do so much more slowly, and much more homogeneously. But, we of the current generations will never know.
