Bother, this is the best form of revenge. If you want tips on how to better place your survalence this is how you do it. Drives should always be hidden. Inside closets are usually the first place everyone checks if it's not readily visable. Hidden compartment within a wall is fine, celing is fine, in the floor is fine as well. Inside furniture is great as long as it's wood or metal. If you can see an outline of the equipment, it's not hidden. Floor is a typical hiding spot as it works fairly well as most people won't look there, especially if it's a fully carpeted floor. If you were to hide the survalence equipment, they would continue to look for it until they find it. I always recommend having a redundant survalence system with the last part of the chain visable as well as visable and hidden cameras. Backing up to an off site server is fine, but shouldn't be the only storage option. Avoid "cloud" (off site storage server) as the only option for keeping video. Every service that offers cloud based storage as the only option will give all footage to law enforcement by request and warrant without pushback. Thease companies can give pushback but never do if a request is too broad. Warrants for footage can be as broad as requesting all cameras for 6 months. I built Raspberry Pi's inside all kinds of things. I have a few I'm placing inside a wall to serve as an access point for a storage server. As for a smash proof door, better to have a flimsy door for cops to get their agression out on without breaking the bank. If you want ti make the cops really work for it, security grade steel inside a wooden door with locking pins like a safe would have. Make sure the pins go directly into a frame surrounding the door flush with the outside of a frame consisting of the same security steel. Have a waterproof LED screen right next to the door to joke around with the cops trying to get in to your place. When they get frustrated and break the screen, you can sue them for unnecessary destruction of property. You receive bonus points if this video is playing the entire time they're trying to get in to the now impenetrable door to your house. Just don't tell them that every other point of entry is the standard building material.
