I love that the devil in the tarot reading in this scene isn’t the gypsies but the European man whose land they find themselves on … at first you think it may be them since they obtain the violin through grave robbing

This is an amazing movie. All the scenes were really well done.

She was on a journey travelling the land with those who cared for her and loved her.

Imagine how bad that violin smelled.

As a violinist, I’m amazed how well he faked that. The woman sighing at the end was a nice touch. I remember reading a 19th c. concert review of a performance by Liszt, in which was commented something that could never be said today, “After the patrons had left, it was plain to see where the women had been sitting.” Hard to believe, but in 1844, women were throwing their underwear on stage at Liszt’s performances!

I've posted this bit of trivia on other uploads of this scene, but it's so fun I'll post it on this one too. If you don't know why this scene looks so realistic, it's because he's really playing. No, no. Not the actor. Joshua Bell. When the camera is zoomed in showing just the actor's face and a pair of hands, those are Joshua Bell's hands reaching around the actor playing the violin. When the camera is behind the actor, it's not the actor. It's Joshua Bell in a long wig. Look closely and you can tell those hands don't belong. Of course, when the camera is behind, you can see Joshua Bell's very recognizable mannerisms and body language.

Number 1 on my movie list.
