A new player has entered the lens game (Director's Cut)
I was recently asked to make a film for Thypoch to launch their Simera range and the 35mm 1.4 M-Mount Lens.
I felt like I needed to talk a little bit more about my experience with it so I decided to make a "Director's Cut" and have a little fun with the format with a good ol-fashioned (unserious at times) Director's Commentary.

Thanks for sharing! Also you may use light meter app on iPhone/Android phone or a handheld light meter if your camera doesn't support lighter meter feature.
beautiful film one of the best i've seen on youtube whilst researching the M11
Its a bit of fun this
this is gold. More of these please!
5,8,11,16.so simple. Thank you
Love the creativity
have you tried adding a pro mist filter on top of cinestill 800T. you get enhanced halation and glow
Did you end up keeping it? I've always dreamt of owning one... but it's not really ever become feasible. Nowadays, I think the Fuji GFX50R with built in x-pan mode is the way. Plenty of res for the crop it applies, and many more lens options- including a lot of vintage lenses.
Unfortunately not. I bought it the week before we went into lockdown and then didn’t work for the year! So I had to sell. But someone told me yesterday that they think the prices are coming down?!?!
@@PhotoCinematica Wow. I thought they would just trend upward forever at this point. You may actually have sold at the right time and could possibly get a bargain the second go around!
Quick question. In the video you show the focus scale dots.. but the lens is sitting at infinity and the aperture is used to demonstrate. Suppose you have your aperture set and you rotate the focus ring- do the dots stay positioned in the same spot, then the focus ring moves depth indicator measurements to be "caught" within the dots turned red by the Aperture choice? Hope I'm making sense ha.
My Sigma Quattro has a panoramic mode that offers film like quality. My Fuji GX617 is almost on par with it (it still beats the resolution of the Sigma but with a small margin)
Beautiful work. The scanning and developing is included in the price when buying?
Yes it is 👍🏼
Very nice! But I am little confused by the fact that we don’t know which shots are 50 or 250d
I shot and edited this a long time ago and haven’t watched it back to check, but I think I did it in order. So all the first 18 or so are 50D
I dont know that Leica needs to go anywhere from here. They have a perfect lineup for their users: M9, M240, M10, M11. Functionally identical, skills transfer directly. So we can just pick the feature set we want. My flavor is M240, but i see the appeal for all. Super nice video, as always.
The dance number didnt make it... *sips loudly in disgust*... yep spent three weeks on that. That must of hurt lol.
Also I'd love to see the review of the 28mm
Having worked the M10 for more than a year now, I recently added an M3 to my gear and had the similar experience, as you described: Everything in the same and exactly right place. Very familiar look and feel. I instantly felt at home with my "new" 69 year old camera. The viewfinder isn't as bright and contrasty as that of the M10, but that is the most significant thing I had to get adjusted to. There again, the quality that comes out the two is just great. My only regret is that I didn't shoot M before back in the analog days ;-)
hey heyyy I Just discovered your channel and love your work! do you use any Leica digital m Cameras of your own. I saw your review of m11 and now this m10R but I'm curious to know if you only shoot the m6 or have any digital M cameras yourself. Im dying to get an M11P
Hey, thanks so much for the kind words. I don’t have an M of my own at the moment but would love to one day. At the moment I’m toying with the Fuji x-Pros or maybe the x1006 👀
I've watched a lot of videos of this Film 800cine, but tbh this one is my fav . in love with the shoots <3 keep it up more night shoots mate .
Ayyy appreciate it my friend!
Great lens, beautiful review ❤
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it
I don‘t know what I have not found your chanel earlier. Great Style! Love it. One Follower gained
Thanks Tobias! Great to have you along!
Your editing videos are the tits. Right up there with GxAce, just different.
Ah thanks so much. Big fan of his work so that’s a big compliment 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I love the role that instagram played here and led me to this yt channel. Thankful, love your content. A lot to learn, and enjoying every minute.
Ah thank you so much! Always here or on IG if you have any questions ✌🏼✌🏼
how do you do for focusing so fast ?
When “zone focussing”, you can set you focus area so you know that any subject that enters that area will be in focus. That’s what I was doing here 👍🏼
Get those effects with a cheap plastic Holga M adapted lens. Halatian galore
When using the Sunny 16 rule for photography and manually exposing, you don't need to input the ISO value to the camera."
No but it doesn’t hurt. If you forget what speed film you’re shooting…
@@PhotoCinematica Yes, that's true, but it's still not part of the Sunny 16 rule
I don’t understand how this doesn’t have more views
What I love about this video the most is how you managed combine the analog with futuristic looking pictures, every picture looks like a 80‘s cyberpunk movie!
Thank you for watching! Cinestill is perfect for that vibe
Did u ever tested the Voigtländer 35mm 1.5?
I have not I’m afraid!
Why that ? 😂
I had the 1.4 so I didn't need it. Maybe in the future though! @@Julienazamosa
Wow - keep going!
Cheers!!!
Thank you so much for this!
No problem Greg. Thanks for watching!
Which version did you get?
V5 ✌🏼

Wow awsome video
Thanks for watching 👍🏼👍🏼
A lens review that doesn’t look like a lens review, how refreshing.
Ah so kind! Thanks for watching ✌🏼
Great great video. Come on! This is a masterpiece of a review. Thanks for sharing such beauty.
Wow that’s very kind!
Really excited for their 28mm to come out, but very tempted to replace my Voigtlander 35 Nokton with this one
Aye, yeah, another lens, another lens review. 🥱 But wait! Can we just stand for a moment in stunned awe at the sheer quality of your photography? A rare talent. Someone who can see. Back to the lens briefly. How was it on the thicker sensor stack of the Sony?
Ah that’s extremely kind. Thank you. To be honest, since making this video, I haven’t used it with the Sony. It’s been on my Leica since. But it was great from what I have seen so far. No issues or strange artefacts/characteristics
@@PhotoCinematica One other thing. You lead by example in selling one lens to acquire the other. Had to sell off 27 lenses last year that had somewhat accumulated over time. Down to six now, including a TTArtisan 1.4/50 ASPH which is a gem (got it for £109 new, open box inc. delivery). Take it easy and great work!
Cheers! I’ve never liked having gear sit on a shelf. So I only have what I use or is so specific that I know I’ll need it in the future.
Nice thanks! Great work but I’d like more info on the lens...
What do you want to know friend! I’ll do my best to answer 👍🏼
Cool video and interesting lens hard to find more reviews of the lens
It’s very new. Only officially came out last month so you’ll probably start to see more come out
Awesome piece 👏🏻 well done!
Thanks so much!!
I have no real interest in that lens. However, I am now a new subscriber to your channel. Your storytelling, cinematography, and general feel of your filmmaking is fantastic. Well done, and thank you for putting in the effort.
Ah Daniel! Thanks so much. I know not every video will interest everyone but I aim to make them enjoyable to watch nonetheless. It means a lot mate, cheers
@@PhotoCinematica You are most welcome my friend. ✌️
Great work! Interested in the 28.
Cheers Alex! Same here, hoping I can try it out soon ✌🏼
It is such a break to watch your video. So relaxing. Thank you so much.😄
Cheers friends!!
A veblen good will never come out of China.
I like the infinity lock. Same as the 50mm Summicron rigid and 28mm/35nn Summaron. You get use to it and after a week it's not even a thought.
That’s good to know!
Does the lens exhibit as much distortion as the Voigtlander 35 f1.4?
Not that I can see. Always felt the voigtlander was very obvious but this one seems clean through to 1.4
That was a sick lens review.
Thank you Derren! ✌🏼✌🏼
the helios 58mm f2 is such a damn workhorse for <$150 lol it's insane feel like everyone should have one in their kit
For sure! It’s all killer and any imperfections add some lovely nuance to the image
The dots for the range distance system looks sooo freaking cool!
The way they appear makes it look like an animation! Once you get used to it I found it very useful!
Always setting the bar higher and higher! 🤌 Movie production quality for a CZcams video is insane when you really think about it.
Haha you’re right! But we must endure 💪🏼
Lens and all is fine but man can we talk about the QUALITY of videos on this channel. It just keeps getting better and better! The title sequence, commentary. Loved it.
Ah thanks so much friend!! Trying to pay less attention to what I think CZcams wants and more about what I want to make. Unfortunately it means these videos take longer than usual, but I'm working on it!
Couldn’t agree more!!! Stunning work here
