Am a Pontiac fan. And I love Pontiac Fiero's.. there are Awesome looking Beautiful small cars.
Same here my friend!
I just purchased a Fiero in August 2024 that already has the 3800 supercharged engine installed. Is there a fairly easy and straightforward way to determine what 3800 engine and supercharger I have? Is it a Gen2 or Gen3 and is the supercharger a L32 Supercharged Series III 3800 L67 Supercharged Series ? 3800 Also, the transmission was indicated to be a 4T65E Automatic Transmission But … not specifically the 4T65E-HD. Is there a way to determine if the transmission is an HD or not? The engine is not running correctly and will only basically idle around the block. If I try to accelerate, it will pop and die out. The code I’m getting is a misfire on cylinder 04. I just want to determine what 3800 engine and supercharger I have so I can then start digging into the issue.
Easiest way is what car did it come out of? If it's all stock and it came supercharged, then it's a 4t65e-hd. The superchargers look slightly different between generations. look at pictures of gen 3 vs gen 5 superchargers. check this thread out for differences; www.grandprixforums.com/how-to-write-ups-tech-tips/49039-the-eaton-gen-v-supercharger-faq-swap-thread-genv-gen-five-gen-5-a.html
Thanks I appreciate the link. I will look at the information and photos. I don’t know what car the 3800 SC came from. I don’t know anything about it. I bought the car from an auction and the seller didn’t know as they were just liquidating it.
@@anderslarocque1280 got ya. hit me up if you have any more questions!
What cars did the Gen 3 supercharge come in?
Only 2004-2008 Grand Prix GTPs
I've been contemplating finding a Fiero to build and do a 3800 swap in, and now I'm seeing all kinds of videos lately on CZcams on them! I'm not sure if I want to mess with the supercharger or not, I guess it depends on how much money I want to throw at this thing. Looks like you might be a good source for information when it comes time for my build though, I'm definitely subscribing to your channel!
well you can slap one of these in as-is and it's amazing. and then slap an easy smaller pulley on and it's even better. took me a month to do a drop in swap, no mods. check out the instructions: www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/139530.html
Did you custom make the inner fender covers in the trunk? I’ve never seen them before.
Got it that way but the guy said they were "like original" however I've never seen them either. Not on any other car. They're some sort vinyl coated paper I think. Kind of nice, keeps dings away.

How is the 1/4" phenolic spacer working out. What are the temps of the top of the supercharger after spirited driving?
it does get hot on a 90 deg day. I haven't run without one for along time nor did I take any measurements before/after. Before the 1/4" spacer though I put on a 1" spacer with no intercooler. It kept the blower warm and not hot to the touch after hard driving. Before the 1" spacer I remember it being too hot to touch.
You don't bleed the master cylinder after emptying it out?
I did, I bled brakes all around the car
@@FieroAustinI am currently in a situation where my rear reservoir has run dry. Online I see a bunch of people saying you need to do a special bleed of the master cylinder like bench bleeding or getting a kit to do it on the car. Yet I also see some people like you who just fill it up and go straight to bleeding the corners. What are your thoughts on the bench bleed process and why don’t you use it? Love your vids btw, definitely my favorite fierotuber P.S: Hello from my alt account
@@doggodoa2 Hey, frankly I've never heard of the special bench bleeding process. I don't even think the manual mentions that, but I could be wrong. It seems to work for me, but I have never 100% drained the lines either. Maybe I got lucky several times over...? Could you link me to this bench bleed process?
Thank you for sharing
Welcome!
I just bought an 88 GT, beautiful condition and i plan on keeping it mostly stock expect for a few bits. I wanted to ask you how did you manage to get the rear GT lights to have a White Pontiac logo lights? It looks fantastic and would love to do something similar!
It's actually light blue; white would be illegal. Camera doesn't show it well. You're not the first. Anyways it's just a blue piece of lexan taped to the inside of the tail lens cover. Someone used to make a kit but they're all gone now. I am sure you can find something!
@@FieroAustin wonderful! Thank you for responding and clarifying! I'll keep an eye out for something like that and cross my fingers haha, there's always a chance! Keep up the great work!
@@p51mustangflyer3 Good luck!
300+ losers. LOL
lol... welcome to join the club
do you have to do anything to the trans?
Not really, assuming you are keeping the automatic 4 speed, unless you go way up in power (350hp+), then you might want a hardened input and pump shaft. You can also do a shift kit.
Polk Audio makes a great dash speaker for the Fiero...they sound fantastic!...don't forget to add the baffles under the speakers...
Thanks!!
Can u do this on a na
yeah. Tuning is going to be pretty similar.
Longer term, how has this solution worked out?
worked great. been a few years. Now having MLS gasket leaks lol. going with copper spray and ZZP's MLS next time.
@@FieroAustin those gaskets are what I’m putting in now. ZZP says to use teflon tape on the studs, but I share your concern and will do the ultra black. ZZP Gaskets come with a black coating. I am wondering if I should still copper spray them. I don’t think I need to, but considering it.
@@ryanlohrenz190 I asked ZZP the same thing. Not sure they are trustworthy since they are selling it, but they told me to spray it and it's not just a repackaged cometic. IDK. Anyways be sure your block surfaces are CLEAN and no ultra black gets on them.
Man,now i have to do a revision on my 3800sc fiero :p

dang sounds like a headache!
I feel dumb I had an engine and a gym smh . Will the grandnational motor fit ?
I am sure it fits, but I have never seen one. May be because it didn't have a bolt pattern that fit up to a transverse transmission (not positive on this)?
I feel dumb I had an engine and a gym smh . Will the grandnational motor fit ?
no, those didn't have the same transmission bolt patterns. There are a few similar 3.8L motors around from various cars that did but they aren't too common.
Not even one burn out! Bummer.
lol not sure most of them could....

Hello, Austin, does anyone make the quick strut for the Fiero? Or is there a good reason that it cannot be made ahead of time? Looks like ALLOT of alignment issues need to be addressed that s particular to each strut. Thank you for taking the time to put these videos together! i inherited My son's 88 Formula Fiero. I want to fix it up restore it as best i can as a tribute to the one thing he truly loved.
Hey! I am afraid I don't think there are any pre-assembled struts made. If there were, it'd probably be $300 vs. $30. They are not too difficult to get right in my opinion; but I leave a true alignment up to a shop to do. You also have this video to go by. I hope that helps, good luck!
kit arrived last week, savedup for a while to get, ive watched ur video x2,still 2 scared 2 attempt...im not mechanically inclined, but im about to try tomarrow.

@@electronicgrandpa7974 Hey well there's always Ace or Menards. Some of the bolts they had in mine were a bit long, maybe they updated them? Good luck!
I've been thinking about getting one of these to put in a small car Ford truck maybe like an old Volkswagen how much more fuel does this use in a stock 3800 ?
You mean a non-supercharged 3800? I am not sure there is much difference. I have seen these get 35mph with the right setup.
@@FieroAustin I have been trying to get Buick with the 3800 just to drive around it's a big nice luxurious car and I saw a century that had a turbocharger on it but I was not able to get it I would probably prefer the turbo over the blower or supercharger and eventually find a small vehicle to put it in
@@darylhudson777 ah. i would expect 24mpg out of somethign like that
@@FieroAustin will the larger 90s four doors I looked up without a turbo get 30 on the highway and 20 in the city that's with an automatic transmission
Thanks again for this video!
Thanks for the feedback!
Simplified yet right to the point! Love this video!
yeah lol that's what I like to aim for. Thanks!
i imagine this would apply for a 2003 bonneville SSEi as well? yes, i still have one of those. i dont drive it in the winter, if i ever did one i would probably get the short stack
Yes it would except your cooler mount and line routing would be much simpler!
The P01 and P59 will happily do more than 6 PSI. Start out with the 4.3 tune and treat the coil pack like a distributor.
do you mean flash a p01 and p59 tune onto the 3800's l67 computer or do you mean get a p01 or p59 computer?
Road runner is much better looking than the charger!!!
agreed it's better looking!
I almost bought a Red Fiero GT in 1988. My father said there was no way I could afford a Ferrari!....Luckily the bank agreed, and I had to give it back.
lol what! that was my first favorite fiero model.
A buddy of mine got one Brand New in 1986. It was the smaller 2.4 liter I believe, not fast but it was fun!
true! I've never actually been in the 4 cylinder.
If you get a p01 or p59, flashed for a 4.3, use the coil pack as the distributor.... I think you get where this is going.
I don't think I do lol
Don’t u need to do a tune before going down on pully size ?
Only to a degree. 5% probably is not enough to warrant a full tune. The computer has about a 15% tolerance on adjustments to AFR. But a tune would always be better.
I had a Silver on gray black interior 1987 2m6 SE 4 speed manual with all the options just like the gt fast black had minus the 5 speed the GT got, but everything else was there, This car I purchased in 1995 for $1,800b 64,000mi in Denver CO private owner, I drove it for 6 years, put in a new clutch and I sold it to another student that loves cars for the same price $1,800. It was my favorite car back then and I miss it so much now at 40 yo LOL
bummer! They're still around... but not for that price!
@@FieroAustin I wish I kept it but at the time I couldn't to figure out how to change the 3 spark plugs next to the fire wall, there was no room you had to lift and tilt the motor 8 inches and I didn't have the tools for that at the time.
@@tomaszstarling You can take the decklid off to allow more clearance on the V6s
@@FieroAustin wow I never thought of that, I feel so dumb. Thank you Austin
@@tomaszstarling haha oh well doesn;t matter now. at least now you know!
Cool
Thanks!
@@FieroAustin you are welcome
Had the FIERO GT Model ( a low-flying rocket car) - LOVED the car when I was younger - got too OLD (me) had trouble getting in and out and so low to the ground that I couldn't see over other cars by me at lights so I had to sell it !! :-)
lol I understand the feeling... not easy getting in!
The fiero store doesn't rebuild the inner piston seal. Those are the real hens teeth.
Did not know that, that is a surprise.
Great Tutorial. I would like to add one item. When removing cable ends from bracket that has the tabs. I found a very easy and fast way of doing it. Use a 13mm box wrench over the barrel. It depresses the three tabs.
i'll have to try that. Thanks! P.S. I think you left a comment on the wrong video!
Very disappointed with this video. Too basic and not enough details to break down of how '88 calipers work... including replacing seal inside those pistons. Rebuilding those calipers would be nice. I still don't get how e-brake system works well. We need more details. This video is too short and very basic with no explanation.
Well sorry you felt that way. It would be very difficult to rebuild the caliper without special tools but it can be done, not something I wanted to do. I think once you open up the parking brakes on yours, it would be clearer. Try another video here. czcams.com/video/HR-J0DXHCoc/video.html
