“Gone Fishin’” - Logan Reynolds: Recorded Live With SMP Live Production
Back in the summer of ‘23 I played the River and Rails Bass Festival in Saint Marys, West Virginia. A week or two before the show, I was pumping gas at a Sheetz in Parkersburg when the idea hit me to write, (naturally enough), a fishing song for the bass festival. This is that song. It has been a delightful surprise to see the love this song has received, and I am so happy to have a recording to put up for those who have enjoyed it so much. The memories I have of singing this song with y’all will stay with me for the rest of my life. Thank you.
Also, a special thanks to Chris Landaker over at SMP Live for shooting this and several other songs with me this year. He’s a good dude, and he does great sound and light work. If you’re in need of such services, I certainly recommend you check him out.

Written by @KrisKristofferson and made particularly famous by @janisjoplin, “Me and Bobby McGee” is among my favorite songs to play and sing. Gallon Jug Destruction! .458 Winchester Magnum vs 30-06 Springfield!

In today’s video, I’m shooting two one-gallon jugs filled with water at 50 yards. I shoot one with a Winchester Model 670 chambered in 30-06, and I shoot the other with a Winchester Model 70 Safari Express chambered in .458 Winchester Magnum. (I know I treat the gun reveal like a bit of a secret in the video, but I ultimately decided to include it in the title and description anyway). Impact sh...

I have that exact rifle/cartridge combo. People say they won't buy any Model 70 not made in the USA and I say, GREAT! That leaves more for us who realize that quality is more important than where they're made.
Concur 100%. Wish ammo was easier to find
That's just about where that load should be. With some judicious handloading, you can get 2200 fps and still be safe. But why bother? 2143 fps is certainly stout enough. I have a Ruger Number One in 458 WinMag, and I loaded some Hornady 300 (yes that's right - 300 gr.) JHPs up to 3000 fps. A real "varmint" load, and kicked like a mule. Those bullets were not designed for velocities so high, but they held together and were reasonably accurate. I also shoot a lot of cast bullets at more modest velocities. A great caliber to load for and shoot.
Good to see there is still men out there. Just so you know Hornaday has discontinued making brass for the.458wm in 2020. A sad day. Soon the bullets will be discontinued. You need to try the 350gn round noise going 2500fps its a moose and bear thumper. They stopped making 350.gn factory ammo many years ago. The lame 45-70 is taking all the brass from the .458wm guys. Not to hunt but to shoot paper. Its sad what the city-idiots are doing to the gun world. P.s nice hat>> Just so you know when you turn 40 your hat brim must increase 1 size and you must wear suspenders . I just got my lager hat no rain on my shoulders :) I haven't orders my suspenders yet:0
Incredible cover. Great job man!
That's just a darn good song!
Thanks, Bob! Hope you’re doing well!
Sorry one more thing I know you love it but your guitar is way too small. And way too perfect. Loosen up buddy. You need a hook. I’m in the industry. Well was for 32 years in Burbank Ca. Seen it all. From Patrick Swazy to Rob Zombie and Will Smith. Etc. Ask the kids and see where the world is going. YOU FEEL SAFE. MOST NOT WRITE ABOUT IT. PUT A MATCH IN THE FIRE AND RIDE THE PERCUSSION. LOVE YOU.
Very nice sir. Need a little grit. Gone fishing earthworms don’t mind. Gone fishing or hunting in the blind. See it rhymes but over done. See song of the south earthworm in my mouth and to the trout. Same stuff. Boring. You look great but your on the coattails. Sing the truth and what’s around you. All that Johnny cash and Colton wall. It’s here. Like bell bottoms. All coming back. But you be you. God bless. Sing about you son or kids like Alabama. That’s what people want. Hell boy. ABBA IS COMING BACK. YOU BETTER CHANGE OR IM GONNA LEAVE. NOUGH SAID. LOVE YOU.
I appreciate the feedback. Truth be told, despite sounding a little more commercial than what I typically write, this one is the truth too. Sometimes, it’s nice to just get away, and that’s what this song is about for me. God bless 🙏🏻
Good lordy it's good to hear you again... as always. So glad you "'must sing"... Keep singing as it is "we" who get to enjoy and live the vicarious life as it's as close as we will get. 🤠
this is really nice. lovely song
Thank you!
Sounds great Logan. That Gretsch has really opened up.
Thank you!
Beautiful, my friend.
Thanks bud! I appreciate that.
This sounds like a country radio hit to me.
Your voice is excellent. "This cigarette is almost gone" struck a chord for me, knowing you.
Thank you so much, Michael! I appreciate your comment and you taking the time to listen.
Love the cover, but i need to hear going fishing again absolutely awesome song!
Great song, great cover
I’m kinda partial to my 416 Rigby in cz 550 Safari but really like big bore rifles of all makes/calibers
I get 45
A 22 250 will do the same thing
Awesome cover. A true country musician it's rare to see these days. What's your insta to follow you. And Colter is my favourite artist
Thank you so much! I love Colter as well. My insta is @logan.reynolds27
Wow ! You have good taste…I wear the same hat and have the same rifle 👍
Love it man keep it up!
Thank you!
I don’t think I am man enough to pull the trigger. That’s impressive and thanks for the video.
You’re welcome and thank you for watching! Recoil on this rifle is certainly stout and probably toward the upper limit of what I can handle. That being said, you never know. A lot of recoil is rifle fit. Prior experience helps too, I grew up shooting heavy shotgun loads. Working up from that to a .375 H&H and then this seemed to work out for me. Thanks again!
Does porting the barrel help with recoil or is it best to leave alone ?
@@JuniorWarrior4Christ I would imagine porting the barrel would help with recoil. So would a muzzle break. However, both of these substantially increase the muzzle blast and volume of the rifle, making it very, very unpleasant for those standing nearby. If you plan to hunt in Africa, most PHs discourage using muzzle breaks. If you can’t handle the recoil of a .458, that is totally fine. Step down to a .416 or .375, and you’ll still be well equipped for dangerous game.
Thx you Logan, I’ll leave mine alone then. I can handle the recoil .
You might add a padded shoulder.
Good cover brother sounds good ngl colter is my favorite
Favorite singer
Thank you so much!
You must do Motorcycle for me sometime pretty please. This is especially awesome! 🦋
You got it!
Gorgeous, I can see the picture you are painting. You are a true artist. Blessed to know you and witness your purpose and journey. 🦋🌈☀☁
Thank you so much, Jess!
Nice shot ... 30.06
How does this compare to the 458 Lott?
The Lott will add another 100-150 fps.
Shoot that with a cresant but plate
America! Plinking with High power rifles. Especially when you are using an elephant rifle. Enjoyed. Thanks.
I USED TO RABBIT AND SQUIRREL HUNT WITH ONE OF THOSE, THEN SOMEBODY TOLD ME ABOUT A RUGER 10/22, KNOW WHAT???!!! MY SHOULDER SURE IS GLAD!!!! *LOL!!!!!!!* THIS WAS A GOOD VIDEO - WE ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH - *BRAVO TO YOU SIR!!!!!!!*
I hope this a joke
@@saintsinningsword *LOL!!!!!!!*
You know it when you touch off a .458 WinMag with a 500 gr. Bullet. 400’s get your attention too.
@@Diogenes425 I THINK YOU ARE CORRECT, I NEVER SHOT A .458 WIN. MAG, AND NOW I AM A BIT OLDER I AM NOT SEEKING TO FIRE ONE EITHER - LOL!!!!!!!
@@jehovahuponyou the possibility of retinal detachment becomes more of a concern with age when shooting heavy recoiling shoulder arms.
With the new Portugal built Model 70's they have knocked them out of the ballpark! I would take my Safari Express over the original pre-64 African.
Shoot those water bottles with a 300 Weatherby 150Gr. bullet like Roy Weatherby did and watch them be destroyed.
Yeah. Logan!
Thanks, Jordan!
Great cover Logan!
Thank you!
Killer✌🏻
Thanks, dude!
Good job Logan. Nice whistling.
Thank you!
Quite nice bubba, I enjoy your voice. Keep it up! 🌠⭐✨
Thank you!
Loose the ear ring
1st thought - I didn’t even notice. I was looking at the rifle, not the dude. 2nd thought - Why should he lose it? Why do you care? 3rd thought - It’s lose, not loose. If you’re going to be mean to someone, at least do them the courtesy of spelling correctly.
I'll bet the old shoulder hurts.
After that day at the range, it did lol. Recoil with that rifle is funny, though. I really notice it at the range; most I want to shoot there is 10 rounds. In the field, however, I don’t notice it at all.
Honestly I think thirty-ought-six did better
hey bro sick work! What's the high note you hit in the beginning, and the 2 you hit at the end? I don't even know if im capable of playing those without squealing.
shoot a 55 gallon drum of water than u will see .458 vs 30-06
Whats the sheet music notes for that, where can I find it?
Get the lott
All that matters is energy dump. Not much difference in the jugs because they dumped similar energies, the difference being the .458 carried on with substantially more energy after hitting the jug.
same bullet as the 460 weatherby the 460 is also a 45 cal not 46
Hi am i a new subscriber and i whanted to ask what hearing protection did you use in this video love to hear from you thank you
Hi! Good to hear from you. I just used a pair of rubber earplugs. They’re purple and called Moldex Rockets.
@@loganlreynolds thank you for the reply and information do you use them all the time also i love the 458 win mag videos my dad has a 30-06 m670 as well and at one point had a 458 win mag to I look foward to more vidoes from you thank you.
@@alexfachin5814 I use them all the time on the range and actually used them a little when I hunted deer with the .458 this year. That’s cool that he has a 670 too! You don’t see many of those. Thanks for the kind words.
@@loganlreynolds look forward to more videos thank you.
SHOOT SOME THING OTHER THAN WATER FILLED PLASTIC JUGS .
An excellent idea! Got some ideas for some penetration tests I’d like to do.
This man has a very pure accent
There is a very big difference. The 458 removed the bottom and the top of the jug in addition to splitting it.
