How to apply any custom shoes to metahuman in Unreal Engine in minutes(KR Sub)
In this tutorial, we will learn how to easily swap out shoes on a MetaHuman.
While other similar tutorial videos use a shoe mesh to transfer vertex groups, this video uses the MetaHuman body itself.
When using shoe meshes, transfers sometimes don't work properly if the custom shoes are larger or taller than the base shoes, so I use MetaHuman bodies to avoid size or height limits.
However, using a body to create a custom shoe brings all of the weightpaint values from the MetaHuman body with it, which can be a hassle if you need to make modifications later. I prefer to use this method in this video because I never have to go back and modify the weight values.
*If you want to use shoe meshes (I recommend boots rather than sneakers) instead of mh body to optimise vertex groups, you can do so by setting the Data Transfer Source to Shoes rather than Body.

    When I added the metahuman from Quixel bridge to the unreal viewport, it wasn’t added as a whole but with the head and body separated. Does anybody know how to fix this? Thanks for the tutorial! 🙌

    MD says cant fit arrangement points cause of pose but this is my 6th time making my MH go into A and even tried T, no luck :(( Any suggestions?

      Well, if so you need to manually create fitting suit. I guess newer version has built mh avatar. Use that one and import mh anim if needs.

    Hi! Thank you so much for this helpful tuitorial! I followed your video but ran into a problem, and been trouble shooting these few days but still no luck. I want to ask and see if you might have a better idea of how to solve this? I am at the last stage and exported the alembic file then when I am added the garment geometry cache file to the sequence, it doesnt show that the file has the animation of the garment(the garment file row for the sequence doesnt' have the pink strip like yours czcams.com/video/nXytsAAnATs/video.html, it's blank, and I assume the animation frames didn't came with the file?) when I played it it just show the body movie but the garment is static...I wonder if you might know what happened with this or how to fix it?

      by any chance, did you set simulation quality to 3 in MD/CLO? there's a bug that UE can't read geometry cache when it's set to 3 in MD.

I remember there is a fidelity setting that I put 3 for, but my menu looked different than yours when I clicked on the UV auto pack so I thought just leave it at 3. Is that what you meant by simulation quality setting to 3? Or is that a different quality that I should check at a different menu page. I tried changing the fidelity to 5, on my end, but it did'nt bring the animation still when I imported it to UE

      ​@@eileenhuang2342 If you're using the Cloi, you'll find the button on the left. It is to select between 1 - 5. If this is not the issue, there may be an issue with certain values when importing from UE. If it were you, I would check to see if the alembic file is giving the same error in blender or other 3D software.

I tried what you siad which is exporting to blender, and it was working in blender just not in UE! so I reexported the alembic file out from blender to UE and the animation came along this time!! HORAY! Thanks so much for helping me out!

      hi! thanksssssss. If you change the blend mode from 'opaque' to 'masked' in the left material settings panel, you can try applying an opacity map. Displacement maps can be applied in modelling mode, but unfortunately geometry cache is not applicable.

      안녕하세요. 무엇이 많은 커브 데이터를 생성 시켰는지 직접 들여다보지 않고서는 사실 잘 모르겠습니다. 다만 애니메이션 시퀀스, 베이킹 등 단계에서 문제가 없었다면 이 방식은 단지 애니메이션을 fbx로 내보내는 방식입니다. 가장 간단한 애니메이션 시퀀스로 테스트해보면서 어떤 부분에서 이슈가 발생했는지 찾아보는 것이 좋을 것 같아요. 메타휴먼을 블렌더가 아닌 마블러스나 클로로 보내는 것이 목적이시라면 개선된 워크플로우 튜토리얼을 참고해보세요. :)

      Thanks dohrah. I may check few things. Make sure ‘turn on virtual texture’ in UE setting, make sure you used correct file name and number.

    thak brooooooooooooo you are the best bro.. but if you want export texture tineable not is possible because for example if you dupicate x10 in marvelous designer in marvelos designer dont understan how many you repit the texture but is ´possible load all texture alembic for example in my case i going to load in maya in uv load diferent material in thes part and export to unreal how diferente alembic and all load

      That's ture. Clo live sync will be helpful to use multiple material slots. but you can also use obj or fbx to transfer material slots to alembic as well then export it as 'facesets' (I normally use blender to do that if it needs). anyway thanks for your comment and sharing your experience.

    너무 멋진 영상과 튜토리얼에 감탄하면서 봤습니다. 마침내 제 캐릭터도 옷을 입혔습니다. 제일 위기였던 부분은 Geometry Cache 문제였습니다. 밑에 분들 댓글도 꽤 있는데, 이렇다할 해결법이 안보이더라고요. 아무래도 버전이 올라가면서 옵션이 달라진것 같아서 언리얼로 알렘빅 파일을 임포트 할 때 Sampling Type을 'Per X Frames'로 바꿔봤더니 퀔님처럼 문제없이 들어오네요 부분적으로 몸이 옷을 뚫고 나오는 문제가 있어서, 해결하고 제 캐릭터도 한번 보여드릴께요~ 무엇보다 한글로 이렇게 글을 남길 수 있어서 너무나 감사합니다. 정말 최고이십니다!

      칭찬 감사합니다. 몸이 옷을 뚫고 나오는 이슈는 늘 고질적으로 나오던데 저는 메타휴먼에 opacity 맵을 하나 추가해서 옷이랑 겹치는 바디 영역을 컨트롤하는게 제일 편해서 그렇게 해결하고 있습니다.

      it would be almost same if you do retopology but if you use garment anim, high poly would probably look better in UE.

      I guess it’s because animation. I think I solved it with using UE retargeter instead of this method. But normally it wouldn’t happen.

    Clo Livesync has been working fine for me until today when I tried to import my garment and the whole program crashed. I tried to reinstall livesync plugin but nothing seems to work. I’m using the latest version of Marvelous Designer. This is what the report says. I tried changing my settings in Nvidia control panel AND the system properties panel. Can’t seem to fix this… Can someone help me???     This is useless to me, I am partially visually impared, the images I can see ok, However the text I can not see. CZcams creators need to learn to always use comantary otherwise this can be classed as discrimination. Also there is no features on the avatar like hair, skin. etc making it no good for doing a static image render in MD/Clo3D. And to do cloths correctly you really need 3 poses available in MD/Clo3D, A-pose, Low A-pose, and arms by there side pose. and that is before you worry about animations.

    Please help!! I made the shoes and they are good. I animated the metahuman and in the sequence viewport everything is fine but when I render it the shoes disappear when the foot is very bent downwards. When it is noy the shoes are back to normal. I used the transfer data from the body but not the shoes since it didnt work for me. Could you pleeease help me :(((

      oh it has nothing to do with the ankle bending. even is in the animation the metahuman is idle it disappears

      I honestly have no idea at the moment because i never had that issue. the reason could be occured by skining(weight painting) or material(textures), etc. if you think it's about data transfer, you can test it with basic shoes from metahuman, not 'body'. If anyone knows anything about this, please leave a comment, or if you've solved it, please leave your method, so we can help others who are experiencing the same thing.

      actaully i didn't add any extra setting for rendering. it may takes time if anim is too long but lumen is pretty fast.

      you must use metahuman with heels when you create metahuman or One way to do this is to import the animation with the heel applied into Blender together and adjust the heel to match the heel height.

[ part 2 04.:16] 매번 이곳에서 오류가 나는데 키프레임 추가한 포즈들이 영상처럼 텍스쳐가 있는 바디가 보이는 썸네일이 아닌 하단에 레드 마크가 박힌 스켈레톤 이미지로 보입니다.. : 어떤 부분에서 오류가 난지 모르겠어서 댓글로 남겨봅니다!

      안녕하세요. 1. 해당 방식은 제가 이것저것 테스트해보다가 발견한 방식이라 메타휴먼의 피벗포인트를 컨트롤하는 정확한 방식은 아닙니다. 제 경험으로는 여성 바디를 썼을 때 그런 현상이 나타나긴 했는데 소스에셋을 남성 바디를 쓰니 괜찮아지긴 했었습니다. 이것은 뷰포트에서 간단하게 z값을 수정해서 컨트롤이 가능한 부분이니 안되시면 수동으로 내리는 것을 추천드립니다. 2. 애니메이션 시퀀스 작동에는 문제가 없는데 썸네일 오류나는 부분은 언리얼 혹은 컴퓨터 혹은 일시적 오류이지 않을까 예상합니다. 이 부분은 저도 잘 모르겠습니다.(껐다 켜보심이? ;>)

    Amazing video! I just have a little problem, when I cut the frames (1-29) everything works fine, it begins in A-Pose but the second animation is broken and the mesh is a mess! Do you know what can I do about it?

    sorry but did you attach the head of the metahuman to its own body in blender? i dont see you putting the head on a custom body, i just see you attaching the same head to its original body? whats the point?

      thanks for your comment. main purpose of this tutorial was for exporting metahuman to marvelous designer(now it's been eaiser thou), not custom mh body in blender.

      it's all in part1,2,3. just add metahuman and add animation sequence / clothes and add geometry cache.
