BMW F10 M5 Engine BUILD - Part 5 - THE UNEXPECTED END
Unfortunately things took an unexpected turn and we had to say goodbye to the M5. Not exactly the happy ending we were expecting however the car had much more issues than a simple blown engine and the owner decided not to spend any more money and just take the car back.

    Excellent work, you're a mechanic i would trust unlike many in New Zealand, they lie, steal, and give false information just to get more money out of you, and i'm not making this up. I have caught many mechanics out, one recently who stole my Hengst oil filter when going an oil change, and put in some cheap after market filter, while i was in the workshop. Great content on the S63! I know its a shot in the dark but I have a 2020 X5M with the S63TU4 motor and I've been chasing down a intermittent misfire in cylinder 6 that only happens during idling. Motor has 40K miles on it and never been tuned. I've thrown every part i could think of and has made no difference. I can monitor the misfire counter using an app and can see only #6 misfire count go up to 50-60 within a minute or two then resets back to zero. No misfires once i'm moving and it only happens if i idle for more than 30 secs. No CELs and no fault codes stored but i could feel it slightly while sitting inside the car. At this point i've changed the following parts with all OEM BMW and the misfire remains. All Spark plugs, all Coil packs, both primary O2 sensors, Low pressure fuel pump in the gas tank, #6 fuel injector. Car drives absolutely perfect and has been babied since day 1 when I bought it new. Any ideas what i might be? Its strange that it only happens at idle and only that cylinder. Anything guidance is much appreciated!

      @@dnl35projects no oil on any of the spark plugs. All look barely used even at 30K miles. All of them looked identical. I even swapped to new OEM coil twice on that same cylinder and idle misfire persist. Some days it’s less and some days it does it more but I can’t seem to see any correlation with any outside factors like AC on/off, temperature, fuel etc. aside from doing it at idle it does also do it during cold starts where you can feel slight rumble. I think most BMWs I’ve had did this though

Alex from Legitstreetcars just bought a 2009 x6 with the n63 for $3000 and fixed it for a few $100. There are not many that are tackling these engines and they jump away from them. You can find and fix the n63/s63 platform and a ton of us will watch religiously. The owner was an ass from the beginning with all this crap and used part BS. I think the best thing to know going forward, is to trust your mechanic, and once acknowledged, give the mechanic the creative opportunity to showcase his work and be proud of it. @user-f10 Před 13 dny

    Great work! If you are taking the engine apart that already has no timing issues, Would the first steps be to lock the crank, then lock the camshafts, then remove the tensioner? Can the passenger side be done first, then assembled and then driver side done?

    • @dnl35projects
      @dnl35projects Před 12 dny

      Yes you can do each side individually and it doesn't matter which side you do first. In order to remove the tensioner you should lock it first (slide a pin into the whole) and in order to do that you could pry the chain guide with a lever (to compress the tensioner) or rotate the engine anti-clockwise a bit (PS: thats the only scenario you should ever crank the engine anti-clockwise, when you are dismantling it. doing so could cause the chain to skip a teeth)

    • @dnl35projects

      There are a few variants specially if the car is all wheel drive but tecnically the S63B44A (non TU) is slightly different to the TU versions (S63B44B) - the main one is how the oil pump is mounted

    What do you recommend for maintenance for an F10 M5? I am picking one up in a few weeks. 100,000km, Stage 2. Has full maintenance history, recent services have been 6-10,000km apart (for last 5 years / 40,000km or so). Prior to that, there were a couple years early on where it went 20,000km between services. It's just had a service - but regardless, I am planning on doing a proper maintenance reset on it. DCT service and diff, it's just had brakes done. Should I go so far as rod bearings and valve stem seals? Any other critical, but often overlooked parts that should be refreshed?

    • @dnl35projects
      @dnl35projects Před 15 dny

      Thats really hard to say, I've seen perfect bearing with 200k kms and completely toasted one on a 60k kms car - It all comes down to how the previous owner treated the car - regular oil changes definitely help but going hard while the engine s still cold can cause a lot of damage and if the wear is already there it's only gonna get worse even if you do 5k oil intervals. If it was my car I'd chance/flush every single fluid (oil, coolants, PS, transmission, diff .... do the filters and I also like to start the ownership with a fresh set of spark plugs just so I know they are new.
