How To Winterize Your RV Water System Do It Yourself. Cheap and Easy.
For reference, my RV is a 2013 Heartland RV Pioneer RB22. 26' with no slides. It's a very basic travel trailer.
IMPORTANT! Be sure to use RV/Marine antifreeze and NOT automotive antifreeze. Automotive antifreeze is poisonous and deadly.

    I put a tee in the cold water supply with a valve and short length of pipe pointing down. I turn water off, relieve pressure, then submerge the end of that pipe in a container of peroxide. I then open the drain valve. The water running out draws the peroxide in. Much easier than taking the line off each time.

Your solution it is quite expensive for me. 60 euro each time?? the bills in Europe already doubled. Somebody told me if you put some charcoal and little ash it will work fine. Just tried today, will see the effect. I know my grandmother used charcoal for digestion problems, also the ash contain some chemicals which kills bacteria ,in big quantities can make you sick. After the second world war my grandparents were extremly poor, the washed their white clotes with ash, best ever soap. Even today the bio soap contain ash. Nope not for this issue. The rotten egg smell is only in the hot water and is caused by a chemical reaction between the anode and the water. Unfortunately, I've changed the anode. Had new Rheem hot water heater (old one was Rheem - 20 years old). Sulphur smell started - after testing, I had the anode replaced and that didn't work. Had the tank shocked the tank, put in filtering and that took care of the problem. Then, after 3 years, the hot water heater element died. Rheem paid for a new one an installation (bought extra protection) had the new one put in with the alternative material anode. However, the problem came back even worse than before. So, I do not know what the hell is going on. Going back to shocking the new tank - grrr. I'm not sure that it was the anode in the first place as the new tank has the alternative one from the get-go.

    • @BriansSpace
      @BriansSpace Před 6 měsíci

      That's odd. As long as the smell is only in the hot water the anode rod replacement should do the trick. I would question if the anode rod is actually the correct material.

    That job could of been a 2-3 min job if you had the stand for the drill. I. Drilled 30 holes 6” diameter and 2 feet deep for a job. This concrete had big rebar going through it in some spots and those took about 8 min the ones with no rebar took about 2-3 min.

    • @BriansSpace
      @BriansSpace Před 8 měsíci

      Probably could have been a bit faster. But, for drilling one hole this size I wouldn't waste the time setting up the stand or the additional cost of renting it. Now if you had multiple holes to drill I would have needed the stand. I got through one hole hand held but if I had to do 5 more that same day I would have had to take a nap after the second one :) So for one 4" hole for a homeowner just rent the drill and make sure you get a bit that isn't worn out. Did you condense the video? I would have expected it to take an hour at least, to go though ten inches of hard concrete,.. We do this from time to time,..and I saw your video was 12 1/2 minutes long and thought: "something's fishy" if this cut through that foundation wall in 12 minutes.

    • @BriansSpace
      @BriansSpace Před 9 měsíci

      Nope this is real time. It only took 12 minutes. Was a brand new bit and drill though from the rental company so that may have helped. I imagine if I rented a more worn out bit it would take a lot longer. This foundation was poured in 1959 also so not sure if that makes a difference. Perhaps different grades of concrete for different construction purposes. Just guessing as I know very little about concrete. I will say this house is over 60 years old and there isn't an out of plumb wall or surface in the entire house. It was really well built. My last house was built in 1920 and there wasn't ONE plumb wall or corner in it! This house is a dream to do repairs on compared to that one so if the concrete is not as strong as others nothing stronger was needed for this house. Thanks for commenting.

      I measured mine, and the actual rectangular locker is 72" tall not including the locker feet and mounting points for the feet. If you pause the video at 1:46 and look at the cabinet bottom corners, you will see the triangular-shaped mounting plates for the feet that extend below the actual bottom of the cabinet. My cabinets are 75 1/4" from floor to top, including the feet attached. I imagine they could screw out higher to extend the height. Hope this helps!

It is not slippery at all with the diamond pattern on it but tool chest and cabinets still roll smoothly on it. My garage is always above freezing and even in the sub zero weather stays at about 45 degrees so everything on the vehicles melt. I just let the water evaporate and then mop up the rest as needed. I am going to add some mats this year though so I won't even need to do that. Now some shoes may be slippery on any surface but I have never had an issue with these in that regards.

    Interesting method. Hydrogen peroxide has the same components as water so given enough contact time it would break down on its own. 4 hours is doing it, and that is really very informative. Flushing the tank at the beginning might be better to reduce demand and get a more concentrated dose. Remember what you put in equals what is used up minus what is left over. Also opening the lines just long enough to fill up with treated water will shock the lines as well. Not sure if that is really necessary but it can't hurt to do a disinfection from time to time on the whole plumbing envelope. Final flushing to remove the residue ensures that you do get any in your spaghetti water..

    • @BriansSpace
      @BriansSpace Před 10 měsíci

      Thanks for commenting. Some additional info I recently found that explains the difference between treating with Chlorine VS Peroxide. In a nutshell use Chlorine to disinfect and use peroxide to Oxidize and remove sulfur and iron: Below from this site: thietbinganhnuoc.com/en/blogs/chlorine-and-hydrogen-peroxide-which-is-better-for-water-treatment.html#:~:text=Chlorine%20requires%20contact%20time%2C%20typically,only%20dilutes%20its%20oxidizing%20capacity. Hydrogen Peroxide is not a good idea for disinfection just as Chlorine is not a good idea for Oxidation. If you need to disinfect surface water, especially if algae are present, then Chlorine is far superior to Hydrogen Peroxide. However, if you have very high levels of iron or sulfur then Chlorine is not a good choice, Hydrogen Peroxide is. Removal of iron and sulfur is best done by oxidation, and H2O2 is an excellent oxidizing agent. Disinfection is the process of cleaning something with chemicals, to kill bacteria. While Oxidation and Reduction can be defined by adding or subtracting Oxygen to a compound; both reduction and oxidation polymerize, so they are called redox reactions. As stated, Hydrogen Peroxide has the chemical formula H2O2 and is an oxidizing agent similar to Oxygen but significantly stronger. The oxidizing activity of Hydrogen Peroxide is the result of the presence of an extra Oxygen atom relative to the structure of water.

    My water heater is connected to a well water system that has two filters before feeding water to the water heater. Can i remove both filter, fill both of them with hydrogen peroxide and put them back on? Would it work the same?

    • @BriansSpace
      @BriansSpace Před 11 měsíci

      Hi, I'm not sure if this would work. The issue is the Peroxide needs to sit in the Hot water heater for 4 hours or so. Important to note this only works if the smell is from the hot water ONLY. If you have the smell from the cold water also you have a different issue. You could try this but you would need to pull the peroxide solution from the filters into the hot water heater. So you could put the peroxide in the filters then turn on the hot water and let it run for 60 seconds or so then turn it off. This should draw the peroxide into the hot water heater. Then let it sit for 4-6 hours. Can't guarantee it would work but won't hurt anything to give it a try. Let me know if it does work. Best of luck!

    How has it been with jack stands and working on stuff? Do u pull it out to clean ever? How do chairs and items on wheels roll over the diamond shape. How was it with the snow? I’m leaning tward grated for the vehicles and solid in the sop section

      I don't use jack stands on it, but for anything like that, you do want to place some plywood underneath them to spread out the weight, and you will be fine. This is needed for any of these style tiles. I never pull it out. I just use the leaf blower and blow it out, and for the winter snow, I just mop it up. My garage does stay above 45 all year long, so any snow that drops on it melts. The grated is very popular but my garage floor was very dusty and I wanted to be able to blow it out so I went with the solid. Things toll over it perfectly with no issue.

    Are they slippery when wet?

      Not at all. They are not completely smooth and have a Diamond pattern in them. I have had no issues with them being slippery.

    It would help if you verbalized everything you are tightening, unscrewing, lift this, lift that, etc. because all we see is your back. Camera is unhelpful.

    Are they still meeting your needs after year? Do you wish you had deeper cabinets?

      Loving them more than ever! Solid and no issues and for me no need for the deeper cabinets. Anything more would have been a waste for me. I did a one year follow up vidio on these and you can see it here: czcams.com/video/Q5p3wgUCFN4/video.html Thanks for watching!
